Hello, Patreon family! Please enjoy my detailed analysis of the Apothecary Diaries Season 2, Episode 5. I cannot believe Jinshi pulled off being the moon fairy, HAHA!

My main takeaways from the episode

1) It is noteworthy to spotlight the significant closeness between Jinshi and Maomao, for Jinshi, the crown prince, to cross-dress by entrusting his decision and reputation to, not only impress the envoys, but more importantly, to follow Maomao's instructions is unbelievable and unprecedented; this defies every socio-cultural norm given the Chinese historical setting

2) I am glad that Maomao humbled that envoy, Aylin, with the moon fairy stunt; take that!!!

3) I love the nuanced Chinese historical context embedded throughout the season and episode, such as how nobody dares to approach the Emperor before his summons, yet, Aylin did, which hints at her deeper agenda and ongoing schemes

Happy weekend, everyone~

Get ready to buckle up, it’s the calm before the storm starts

CervenySun

Did you mean a drive-in movie theater? Or the modern equivalent where they project it onto the side of a building as a community event?

Summer08

And as always, Thank you Benoit🙏

Levanah

From his description, I think he meant drive-ins. RIP.

IIRC, Diana is the name of the moon goddess in ancient Roman mythology.

As a side note…MaoMao not only prayed over the loss of Jinshi’s organ, but also took it a step further to think about ways to help it grow back 🤣 Our girl doesn’t show signs of being ace. She does show signs of being cautious and thinking of her safety in her mind “as a lowly servant girl”

I don't know if it's the next episode or the one after that but i can't wait for your reaction to next couple of events in the next few episodes. This season is absolute fire.

There are a lot of characters to keep track of haha, I definitely misidentified several bearded men as the Emperor on my first watch through. And we finally see the clinic! This episode answered several minor questions I had throughout the show so far, like "how come we never see the concubines or their ladies in waiting visit the doctor" and "why is the doctor still here if literally EVERYONE knows he sucks" - because they aren't making more Eunuchs and don't have better options... that they didn't banish, anyways. Looking forward to the rest of the season! It's so hard to wait till you get to some of my favorite parts.
