Hello Patreon family! I hope you enjoy my detailed psychological analysis of episode 14 of Your Lie in April! I think the keywords for this episode are helplessness and friendship!

My main takeaways from the episode

1) The only one who is not hurting and emotionally distraught is Watari, good for him, and us, because we need a comedic character in light of all that is happening

2) When we are not honest with our emotions, the one who will get hurt the most is, you guessed it, ourselves

3) What a beautiful display of endearing friendship throughout the series, especially in this episode

Are you being honest with yourself and your emotions?

Happy new week, everyone~

Kousei with “the moon is pretty” to Tsubaki - except he doesn’t understand his own deeper feelings for Tsubaki. Contrast that with Kaori saying it to Kousei in the music room. Kaori understood what she was saying to Kousei then, even if Kousei is too dense to get it. The song that Kousei hums and Tsubaki hums back to him is “Clair de Lune” by Claude DeBussy. The title is French for moonlight. It is one of the most romantic pieces of classical music. Kousei and Tsubaki have a deep emotional relationship that only Tsubaki is just starting to realize is there. Interesting that the author chose this as “their” song, eh?

I get a bit upset at other content creators having a lot of dislike toward Tsubaki. I think it mostly stems from them shipping Kousei and Kaori and obviously the story really pushes that pairing on you. So when Tsubaki starts to sort her feelings out, she kinda gets treated as a third wheel in a beautiful relationship. Also, her physical abuse of Kousei, which I still believe is just overdramatized for comedic effect, just paints her as a villain by some. She's a middle school teenager for crying out loud. Who had total emotional maturity at age 15? I certainly didn't. I am 45 now and still struggle with it. Lol We definitely have sympathy for the senpai that she tries to date, but it's not like she is intentionally stringing him along. She has so many swirling emotions that she cannot fully understand and that takes time to deal with. I give her all the grace I can as she figures herself out.

With the fact that Tsubaki and Kousei have been together as friends for so long its understandable that any feelings will get jumbled up especially at that age, when even more mature people can have a hard time deciphering if their feelings are just a close friendship or if there's something more that's worth pursuing. Even in terms of music we see early on that Tsubaki knows he's struggling with his music and wants him to commit to a decision so he'd be happier but knowing the trauma he's been trough she doesn't know how to help him without possibly ruining their relationship. Kaori only having the surface level knowledge is more easily able to push/drag him back to music to find his path forward, which in turn leads to Kousei's romantic feelings towards Kaori without having any other prior history.

That's very well put. I wholeheartedly agree!
