Hello, Patreon family! Please enjoy my detailed analysis of the Apothecary Diaries Season 2, Episode 7. What a PEAK puzzle-solving, and mystery-filled episode this was!!!

My main takeaways from the episode

1) I am eagerly waiting to see if I addressed the 🐸 🐸 🐸 mystery in the comment section, or if I am not quite there yet with my speculation

2) The closeness and causal relationships between the high priest eunuch and the Emperor, once again, highlight the type of person the Emperor is, which begs the question, what type of person is the Empress Dowager?? Like mother, like son, or?

3) Maomao never ceases to impress me with her successful deduction of the entire Mother Royal family lineage mystery, after taking on the eunuch's challenge\

Happy new week, everyone~

I absolutely loved this episode! Major details to remember for later events 📑

I admit, I was a little disappointed that you didn't make a "sizeable fruits" comment at the end of the episode. 🤣 It was also really great to see the Emperor get more screen time.

At 13:35, “I can’t keep quiet about this forever,” the art here is so beautifully expressive… Jinshi curls up into fetal position—our very earliest, instinctive move of self-protection. Edit: oh, you got to this about five seconds further on… :-)

Levanah

The title of Mother Royal refers to the generations-ago founding empress of Li. The previous emperor’s mother’s title was Empress Dowager.

I dont think Jinshi knows, he just believed the current emperor was his father while he was a a boy, without anyone telling him, probably because, the current Emperor treated him like a son. And he was allowed to grow that perception.

🐸. This was one of my favorite episodes of this cour. Enjoying your yapping also.

This is what I was originally going to comment, but I think he got that later on when Maomao explained the origin.

Leslie

This is a really, really great episode. Definitely a favorite. Assuming Maomao's conjecture from season one about Jinshi's parentage is correct, Jinshi was raised by his "brother" and "mother", thinking his "brother" was his father, only to later be informed otherwise. He doesn't know about the swap, and honestly I think they never wanted him to know. This strategy is pretty smart to keep the real truth hidden from him forever because of the false reveal that the old emperor is his "real" father. Also... yeah, The Emperor basically just gave his blessing for Jinshi to be with Maomao by saying "why don't you take her" LMAO. AND she still doesn't put together why Jinshi is even allowed to be here.

Symbolic Remnant

Hey, I got shouted out! Yeah. The Mother Royal is the Ancestor of the entire Dynasty, generations before the previous emperor's queen mother. Her status as a experiencer or carrier of red-green colorblindness created a traceable mark of her lineage, especially in males (red-green colorblindness is based on an X chromosome gene, so women can have it counteracted and just be carriers, but any man with the gene WILL be colorblind), one that has ceased being found often in the immediate line of succession even if they are still her descendants. Also, you have more of my clues to unravel before you enter the 🐸 zone.

Guys we broke Benoit with the 🐸 🐸. Hahahahaha.

KapteynG

Yes. 🐸 🐸🐸 🐸

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Hahaha...Frogs.. Also, the old man was telling Jinshi to be careful of adding Maomao to the royal bloodline there, not the Emporer....ribbit

Dragons like Bananas

I think deep down /instinctively Jinshi does know , but refuses to accept it because he's been told otherwise. Similar to how Maomao won't accept that she's figuring out Jinshi's identity.

I was waiting for this episode but I thought it was like episode 5, but yeah it does make sense for it to be later than that. Also 🐸 🐸🐸 🐸 is something to look forward to.

Ana Maria Zuñiga

I have a close friend with that condition, so I figured it out immediately 🤣

I really enjoyed this storyline. It highlights feminism, how the people at the time wanted the bloodline to be of paternal origin, yet the women of the family were always the true masterminds behind their emperors, and that can still be applied to the current time in the story. It was such a clever way to display these women reclaiming their worth and power in such an intelligent and peaceful way. Unlike what you'd expect. You can say Maomao is the prime example, being the main character, the brains, mystery solver, the one who holds information so lethal it guarantees her as a close asset and true mastermind behind the higher ranking people she's working with.

genuinely makes me so happy! if you take in the hystorical context and how only men could be in charge of power... They're so smart!

Miki

Very creative. Very wrong though...🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸

Trust us you will KNOW without a shadow of a doubt when you get to the frog episode I promise

I'm not sure how literally you mean it when you call Maomao a princess, but to be clear she isn't a princess. The correct term would be 'lady' in English I suppose. I don't know for sure if she's even technically part of the aristocracy, let alone a princess, despite Lakan's influence. I'm sure a book reader can clarify as to that.

Jon Daux

Ah, yeah in that case I think you're absolutely spot on 🙏
