Hello, Patreon family! Please enjoy my detailed analysis of the Apothecary Diaries Season 2, Episode 8. I like the episode, with further mystery and Maomao's competency being demanded by Empress Anshi, but I feel like this is a build-up for the next episode to come~

My main takeaways from the episode

1) There is a fundamental difference between being "nice" and "kind," as I shared in my other series, because "nice" is often to please others by de-prioritizing our needs, and "kind" is a display of our core values and our inner strength without bending over for others

2) The skillset of assertiveness must be cultivated because if we do not advocate and stand up for ourselves, who will? I loved the skillful display of Lady Hongniang's assertiveness without compromising her kindness for Maomao

If we cannot stand up for others, due to our limited circumstances, let's at least stand up for ourselves, starting today!

Happy new week, everyone~

You haven't seen Suiren since season one because she's at Jinshi's place, which is not in the real palace. Maomao hasn't been back there since being reassigned to the jade pavilion. Regarding the late emperor's mindset... whether it's due to developmental issues or some sort of trauma regarding adult women... it's an explanation for his behavior, not an excuse. I think is what you were getting at? And I agree. It's they answer to "why" which can be important for preventing this sort of thing from happening in the future, not saying it's okay. Anshi does look young, but she is "only" 10ish years older than the emperor afterall.

I think the pedophile Emporer may have been afraid of women. Maybe his mom abused him. Just my guess. To be honest I can't imagine anything else that would make someone be like that, not that it makes it okay

Symbolic Remnant

Anshi: 安氏 Some of your theories about some things are starting to hit the "So close yet so far" tier again. On other things, this episode actually hints at something that doesnt even come up in full until Light Novel 15 (theyve only animated up through Light Novel 4 so far). Religious traditions around the world have two ways of looking at bodies that are not attempted to be preserved, yet are abnormally well-preserved anyway. Some even hold that both exist and that a distinction can be perceived. Either the body is permeated by holiness and is rendered somewhat incorrupt even after death (saint traditions in much of Christianity hold this as a possibility for some saints). The other is the opposite end of the spectrum: that the person was so permeated and polluted by evil deeds, unforgiven by their victims, that nature itself recoils from taking their matter back. This latter one is what Anshi suspects she contributed to with the former Emperor

I don't have any real theories about this plot line, but I am very interested to find out what happened. This is all so far out of anything I'm knowledgeable about. Lol

I just recorded next episode, and I don’t think anyone is ready to what I’m going to say. I wasn’t ready until I thought out loud lol

This is my 2nd favorite plotline of this season! The social commentaries in this episode were flawless, and really sad to think about to be honest. I'm very excited to hear your thoughts and reaction to next week's episode!

Loulan's drip is so peak, she's easily my favourite in the show aside from the main duo.
