Hello Patreon family! I hope you enjoy the free early access to my detailed psychological analysis of episodes 21-22 of Your Lie in April! At last, here we are, the finale to this wonderfully poetic, beautiful, meaningful, and tragic series. I hit all my feels throughout the season finale :')

My main takeaways from the episode

1) When someone is going through a hard time, whether sadness, grief, and loss, or feeling down, often, the best thing we can do is simply to be there for them (and with them)

2) What a beautiful journey this has been, witnessing Kousei's initial helplessness with trauma, subsequently embarking on his life-changing journey after meeting Kaori, cherishing the bittersweet nature of adolescent love, admiring Tsubaki's unchanging adoration and Watari's endearing friendship for Kousei, being awe-struck by Kousei's unknowing yet profound influence on so many people in his life through his music, and celebrating the wonderful emotional closure and common humanity at the end

Thank you, everyone, for following along the journey, and a massive final shoutout to Scientia Tridens for your big donation, and, alas, what a ride it has been~

See you on the other side with Mob Psycho 100, Eighty-Six (86), ongoing series: the Apothecary Diaries S2, and scheduled series: Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Thanks for the reaction to this awesome anime, hands down one of my favorite shows oat. Also specifically your reactions to it made me appreciate it even more in the symbolic and poetical aspects. To your comment about the condition related to hearing music as colors, if I remember correctly a famous pianist called Lang Lang has it. Again, thank you for the reaction!

The opening changed midway through the show, if you didn’t already I recommend watching the first opening, it’s very very good.

I may watch it while on break, at the risk of being in tears while returning to work. Lol

Beautiful show I have watch it multiple times by my own and by reactions and I always cry on some moments... I love the "I want caneles" is like saying "I'm fine" to kousei but not really... and the "you have me"... early on too I was like how is the show gonna resolve this love triangle... oh... that's how... Kaori will always be remember on each april we make her that promise... and so far she still in our hearts ❤️

This show is truly a masterpiece. I think I’ve watched it 6-7 times now. I suspect the *only* reason it doesn’t make it into people’s number one favorite anime slot is because it is so unbelievably sad. And as a general rule people don’t usually pick the saddest most heart wrenching stuff as their “favorite”.

“Spring will be here soon. The season I met you is almost here. A spring without you will arrive.” Hanami is the centuries old Japanese tradition of flower viewing - often the 🌸. It is a celebration of the Japanese philosophy of mono no aware - the deep bittersweet awareness of the beauty found in the impermanence of things. Your Lie In April fans have their own version of Hanami re-watching the anime every April to celebrate the beauty of Kaori. We’ll talk about the rewatch every April like it’s done as a cliche, but we don’t really explain the truth of it so that we don’t scare off potential converts. Because we must taste the bittersweet to keep our appreciation for the beauty. “Flowers are flowers because they fall.” -Lady Mariko, “Shogun” “But thankfully the wind.” -Lady Ochiba, “Shogun” Lady Mariko’s part of the poem is the essence of mono no aware. Lady Ochiba’s part is the essence of Hanami. 🌸, twinkling little ✨, ❄️…Kaori. But thankfully the music.

You definitely did this series justice. I'm so glad you were able to see it through to the end. Such a tragic story, but also one full of beauty and hope.

The condition is called synesthesia. As an untrained musician Jimi Hendrix would tell his band members what colors he wanted them to play as he could not speak the language of technique with them. Prince may have had it as well.

The first opening symbolically tells the plot. So definitely did not want you reacting to it right away! But your training did not allow you to dismiss the truths Kaori couldn’t help admitting in the early episodes. The second opening was teasing Kaori’s letter and photo by showing the opened envelope on the piano.

Violet Evergarden episode 10 is the short, short, short version of Your Lie In April.

Your Lie in April breaks our hearts, but it teaches us how to heal. The paradox of this story is perfectly summarized in its painful ending: "He wanted to die. She wanted to live. She died for him, and he lived for her. But a part of him died with her, and a part of her lived with him."It is a deeply sad series, but we keep watching it over and over again because it does not dwell on tragedy; it celebrates life. Pain is transformed into art, music, and growth. It moves us emotionally because it reminds us that true love, even when lost, has the power to rescue us from our own darkness. We return to it because the beauty of its message is always stronger than the tears it causes.

So beautifully said and articulated. Wow. Your comment made me appreciate the ending even more. I wish I can pin this comment

I'm one of those gluttons for emotional punishment. The emotional highs this series has are as beautiful as the lows. The musical pieces are all so amazing to listen to. I've seen some tragic love story animes, but none quite as unique as this one.

Thank you one last time to Scientia Tridens (hope I spelled it right) for your amazing generosity in helping Benoit be able to complete this series on the channel!!

Saku

The younger me really hate tsubaki in that last scene.

Rem is best waifu

I would like to get your thoughts on Anohona and Plastic Memories next.

You should watch the anime movie ‚I want to eat your pancreas‘ it’s similar to a silent voice and your lie in April

Weyyy, we finished. YLIA is not my favourite show, it's got a lot of tropes and is often constrained by the grounding reality of money, not quite able to realize the visuality of music to its maximum potential, but this show is undeniably an example of pure passion. The story is timeless, and the characters remain in millions of anime fans' hearts for a very real reason. Was a pleasure to watch you react to this, though I'm two months late to the party!
