I think your comparison between real love and obsession was really good. Over the years I have realized that I have this bad habit of becoming attached to people just because they are there. Also, many years ago, I was in a situation where I was dating this guy and he was obsessed with me. That experience really opened my eyes. It was so emotionally draining. I’d love to hear how you’re liking The Witcher books. I assume these are the books that the Netflix series is based on? Dating question (sorry I never write short comments): How do I get past the hurdle of thinking I'm a creep if I were to NOT totally shut down people who are younger than me? I'm 39 and I consider "my age" to be 5 or 6 years in either direction. Just before the pandemic, I took a couple of years to work on myself. Before that, all but 2 of the people I'd had any level of romantic and/or sexual relationships had been between 9 and 15 years *older* than me. After my self development, people who are in that previous age range aren't interested. Those "my age" also aren't interested. They don't approach me and I'm turned down when I approach them. The only people who approach me these days are 22-25 year olds. They come from everywhere, mostly in my dms but also in real life. Dishonorable mention to the creepy old grandpas who approach and lose interest when they find out my age. They make it known that they thought I was a 20-something (¬_¬) Creeps me right out that Pawpaw was *seeking* that age. I tend to turn down the 20 somethings because I worry that it'll make me a creep? But now I kinda feel like I'm self sabotaging? They're still adults and the 24/25 year olds are in our generation. There was even one person who I was really digging, but I couldn't get passed the numbers. This was despite the fact that, aside from literally verbalizing our ages, there weren't many differences in us. I'm aware that people tend to think I'm in my mid to late 20s rather than late 30s, and that's probably... definitely affecting things. But anyway, do you have any suggestions about how to get past my own weirdness? I'm tired of being lonely and at this point I definitely think it's because I'm doing it to myself (｡•́︿•̀｡)

I had hoped I'd moved past that habit but apparently there's that one nagging thing (｡•́︿•̀｡) I think it's the last remnant of the old school ideas of what my age is "supposed" to be like vs what I'm actually like. I know that I don't fit a lot of the old school stuff. I also know that society is slowly trying to unlearn a lot of the habits of setting arbitrary goal posts for life experiences (especially considering that millennials aren't following the script in general). When it comes to fandoms, hobbies, or even fashion I'm the first one to tell people "I'm oldER but not old," and "we're older but not dead." We don't have to stop doing the stuff that we like just because we're "real" adults now. The idea of dating younger, that far younger at least, has me pause. Like *insert butterfly meme* "am I immature?" 😂 I went from being mature for my age/people thinking I'm older, to people thinking I'm younger. It feels new? It probably doesn't help that I don't want kids. So, if I can help it, I'll never hit that "milestone" and to some will never be "as grown" as others?

Start to choose yourself, if younger men make you happy go for it, as long as you're both adults, what's the problem? I used to be like you, Im 32 now, but I would never entertain younger guys, I mean even months younger, guys my age also I was never interested in. I like older men, way older - but I once met a man 6 years younger than me, I like to say he was the male version of me, we were so alike, we vibed, the energy was so good, I never had to pretend around him and all of sudden his age meant nothing to me, I was happy. So my advise to you, be more open just to love, you never know from which direction it will come, in a effort to 'not look like a creep' by blocking the you gins, you may be shutting the door on the greatest love - Also maybe its a sign that your age mates and older are not interested 🤷🏽‍♀️. My advise to you, focus on what you feel when you're around that person, the energy, the vibe, how he treats you - that's what's important, age after all is really just a number. By the way. For some reason, the younger guys are really stepping up...

1. I've experienced this only a handful of times with different partners in the past. One was mind-blowing plus became waaay easier to talk to after, one partner refused to get intimate until a proper 'sit down' or verbal apology was made, and unfortunately, I experienced one where I just felt painfully cold and in pieces after. Personally, I've learned that until you really get to know a person, makeup sex remains neutral, not good or bad. Makeup sex can be either or both. In the end you always learn something--about yourself, your partner, the relationship. 2. I had a partner who, while we were together, went thru major depression, he didn't want to seek help; we patiently talked about it and helped each other slowly get better instead, together. You continue to love not because it's simple and easy, rather you love because this person makes you better, you truly can't imagine existing without them in your life. This convo saved us, we were together for almost 8 years. My last partner is a lesbian; I knew I was straight until her; we regularly talked then fell hopelessly in love. I have never fought for and loved anyone else as much as I love her. However, during this pandemic, she lost hope and gave up on us. Obviously, this convo ended our 2-year relationship. 3. Hmm... I have two: being a freediving instructor, and living in different countries in the next years exploring food, art, culture, nature, architecture, people--until my physical body breaks down.
