Other Stuffs:
In a moment of not knowing what to play I threw in the Playstation Spider-Man game and am having a good time with that while I wait for Wolverine to drop.
Finished reading and adored This is How You Lose the Time War. Some of the most beautiful prose I’ve ever read and as someone who is 70% likely to start any live improv scene with lovers reading war correspondences back and forth, I was delighted by the format. I also finished Tim Curry’s autobiography, Vagabond and just started my Lonesome Dove journey
Listened to Tom Hardy’s rap album Czarface meets Frankie Pulitzer and it’s bonkers that he pulls it off. Dude can do it all
As I gear up for Over the Garden Wall season, I stumbled upon this YouTube video essay on the show’s music which I HIGHLY recommend if you love OTGW
We launched the new season of Magic Tavern with Robbie Daymond and Katie Marovich as our first 2 guests
Love,
Dadal
FROM JPC:
Hey Riddiots -
Another Summer absolutely flew by. Hope you all had a great time! I'm looking forward to attending the Minnesota State Fair for the first time. If you are also attending and you see me out and about, say hello!
Every time I come to write one of these newsletters, I sit down and look at my Steam library to recommend games and then realize that I haven't really been playing anything recently. I played a few rounds of Fortnite with some friends and had a great time. There's something about a cross-platform free to play game that really brings people together.
As far as reading, I finished the first 2 books of the Sprawl trilogy. I thought they were just okay so I didn't go into the third one. Instead, I took a break to re-read the Witcher series in preparation for the new book this fall. I burned through the first 3 and it's the kind of pulp that I really vibe with. I think I'm up to 47 books this year.
And finally, a comment on advertisements in the episodes and ad-free episodes:
I'll be as transparent as I'm allowed to be here. We are part of a network and that network dictates the ads that we air on the show. We read some of the ads, and some of the ads are programmatic like you would hear on the terrestrial radio of yesteryear. We have very limited input in the later and only slightly more on the ones we read. A couple weeks ago, our ad structure changed to include 2 ad breaks in our free episodes. Since we had already recorded episodes with no natural 2nd break, the breaks were a bit jarring. In future recordings, we take this into account to hopefully not break the flow as much. We appreciate you bearing with us for a few episodes.
We have also decided that due to the increased ads in the free feed, it's time to start adding our back catalog to the ad-free feed on Patreon. I'm going to start doing this, but it's a manual process and I can guarantee it won't be done quickly. But eventually, all of the main feed eps will be available ad-free at the $8 tier.
And finally, we've had a lot of feedback over the years that some of you really enjoy our ad-reads. We have always tried to do some sort of bit or gag inside an ad read to make them a little more fun, so we appreciate everyone who still listens to those ads. This also makes the ad reads (and episodes) a little longer, which some of you don't like. We can't please everyone, so we are erring on the side of making them a little more fun.
Best,
JPC
