Stella

Lol biggest jinx is real

Stella

Die pronounced dee-a [like the letter A at the end] (another variation is A-Die) is father Niang [nee-ahng] (or A-Niang) is mother

Stella

Also this is the setting for many cultivation universe based donghua/novels. Ancient China where meditation, magic and spiritual weapons/pets as well as martial arts exists side by side with civilians (those with none of these skills). Cultivators work hard for years upon years to cultivate a golden core (through qi...the same energy that surrounds and binds the universe...its also called spiritual energy) and through a golden core, they can have increased stamina, lighter steps (this allows them to walk and run undetected, climb steep surfaces, jump on roofs in one go, step on thin branches and not fall, etc), inedia (sustaining themselves via golden core aka surviving periods of time humans CANT without food and water) as well as healing themselves/others. The more diligently you cultivate, the bigger and stronger your core and the more you can do with it! Despite that, they're still mortal and they can be killed UNLESS they cultivate and live long enough (mostly decades) to ascend as gods and then they're pretty much impossible to kill (it's called ascending/ascending to immortality). Cultivation worlds are veryyyy traditional and rooted in family practices, respect for elders, respect for passed on ancestors, etc.

Stella

Don't confuse spiritual animals with regular animals. Spiritual animals are cultivated with ancient magic, the life force that binds the universe and meditation and they're capable of a lot of things, including growing to unnatural sizes, flying, and their own magic!

Stella

Since the emphasis here is on spiritual pets instead of weapons, these aren't martial cultivators, they're spiritual pet masters. As such they rely on their spiritual pets for offence and defence both

Stella

A spiritual pet/weapon is immensely loyal to their owner. Depending on the owner's cultivation level, they can be semi sentient to sentient. They're also very smart and usually share their master's ideals. Almost all spiritual weapons and pets are have a soul and are immensely protective of their masters. The relationships between them are pretty co-dependent and weapons becomes useless after their master's death and refuse to let anyone else use them...some may even seek revenge if they think their master was killed unjustly. Similarly, a master may die of heartbreak (spiritual weapons of all kinds are an extension of their soul and power) if their weapon/pet dies/is destroyed but on the off chance they live, very very few of them take another weapon afterwards. Most of them can't bear it anymore as pets and weapons are their most trusted companions. Just remember it's almost impossible for a master to turn on their pet or weapon and vice versa. They can't. If they do theres something very wrong going on. Unless the bond is new, the master is cruel and insults and abuses their pet/weapon, the master isn't powerful enough for the weapon/pet to become even semi sentient....then loyalty can't be guaranteed

Stella

But with ancient Chinese setting, there's also stuff like arranged marriages, homophobia (though I've rarely seen that as an excuse to abuse people unless you're a piece of shit) as well as corporal punishment and the likes (which makes cultivation bl even more interesting). Oh and...respect for elders, both alive and dead, you need to make sure you don't do anything that shames your ancestors and family (cxs ancestor joke comes from here...that your ancestors are watching you and you'll face them after death so be good or eat shit ig)...I think I've rambled enough about the setting and I already talked about clans and sects... if you have any specific questions, lmk!

Stella

The hand signs in cultivation are called 'hand seals' and they're a silent, secretive method unique to each cultivator. Only their pets and clans are aware of what each hand seal is for.

Stella

In death, you're alone aren't you? No one experiences it with you. His parents and clan turning their backs on him and him being unable to touch them symbolises his death. He and they don't belong to the same realm (the realm of the living) anymore...

Stella

In the afterlife he was told if he was plotted against and killed, he'd be reincarnated a year later as someone who'd die soon...but he can prolong their life. Which means Xiao Nian never meant to harm his master after all and someone pulled the strings to make it happen. I cant imagine the poor whale's suffering...forced to be manipulated and murder the person who raised you and trusted you and loved you

Stella

Fun fact... xiao is used before pet's names mostly and it has the same effect as "-chan" this XIAO character (小) means LITTLE/SMALL and is the same one used in cxs' (程小时) name!

Stella

He has no clue what the real owner of his body has done before he reincarnated oops

Stella

"I wanna see it again...Not that skill" pffft

Stella

Servile slave = submissive kind of slave...no willpower or goals of their own outside of being a slave and being ordered around. In other words, he'd have been tortured until they beat the stubbornness out of him and he became a meak, mindless slave outside of his orders.

Stella

His first catfish he cultivated it for years...the catfish was exactly this size at first and he spent years with it. See how cute and loyal this one is and they've only known each other for less than a day? There's no way his whale devoured him because it wanted to.

Stella

Also I am hyped to learn more about this universe because most of what I know comes from other cultivation danmei...not the ADW itself so... yay!

Stella

You liked the worldbuilding here and it makes me 99.99% sure you'll love mdzs!
