LETS GOOOOOO

Sean888

Amazing storytelling with most of them being about unrequited love in one way or another and very specific humane experiences that are not discussed often. Just his debut and it catapulted him into all time song writer conversation immediately in my opinion. This can be said for all of his projects but this one seriously gets better every listen.

The pyramids in the second verse of pyramids are in reference to the pyramids on the Vegas trip. The second verse completely flips from the first as the Cleopatra in the past was a ruler of Egypt, but the Cleopatra he knows today just works at the pyramids as a sex worker.

*Vegas strip*

Savaun Lollis

Pyramids is about a nearly 10-minute epic exploring the historical, social, and emotional degradation of Black women

Jaigo

"little rock left in that glass dick" :D the glass dick is referring to a bong btw

Savaun Lollis

to help you understand Pilot Jones a little better, its important to know that term "Jones" isn't just a last name, it was a term often used during the crack epidemic and it means to desire, crave and/or long something insatiably & restlessly

Brenda T.

In "Super Rich Kids", Frank interpolates the hook "real love, I'm searching for a real love" from Mary J Blige's 1992 hit "Real Love". In Pink Matter, Andre 3Ks last bars are, in short, a euphemism.

Savaun Lollis

i always took "the best song wasn't the single" as frank or the character in the song, choosing to mess with someone who was in a relationship rather than one who was single

algorerhythm

Fertilizer? I hardly know her! (Sorry but I had to. Also that track is a partial cover of a song by James Fauntleroy, who was on a couple of tracks on TPAB.)

algorerhythm

Sorry for being pedantic but it's a crack pipe, not a bong.

Jaigo

youre right :)

Frank mentioned that he and Pharrell Williams, who co-produced a couple songs on the album, talked about their synesthesia. That the album title is a reference to that and what he saw the first time he fell in love. He said “It was the summer, and everything was orange. Just like this summer.” 🧡

King Aliyah

on the song Lost you mentioned the "love lost" line i think its referring to how the bf in the song is using his gf as a drug mule putting her in danger and lying to her about how one day she will be cooking meals for a family instead of cooking dope (on verse 3 he says nothing wrong with a lie, immediately after promising her that she would one day have a family presumably with him). Like she is lost because of love she cant see she is being used

Greenmc2000

Earl Sweatshirt is the one of the best, if not the best rapper and has been a cornerstone of underground rap since he was 19. Kendrick said ten years ago that Earl Sweatshirt was his favorite rapper. He’s only gotten better at 32 now.

Greenmc2000

Heavily recommend his new album Live Laugh Love, just grown adult poetry

King Aliyah

i feel you about channel orange it took me much longer to warm up to the storytelling songs over the more confessional songs especially since i got into frank through Blonde which is way more confessional.

Brandon Arnold

if you liked bad religion that much you're gonna love blond

Robert Flom

This is my favorite Frank project, in part because of when it came out in my life, and also because I think it's the most replayable. Blonde is brilliant and absolutely incredible but it's not an album I always want to listen to. Pyramids, Lost, Bad Religion, and Pink Matter are all songs that whenever they come on shuffle I have to listen to. As you mentioned, this is a very earwormy album, and I gravitate more towards that sound in everyday listening compared to Blonde. My guess is Blonde will be your favorite Frank project, but Channel Orange is definitely a grower.

King Aliyah

Oh i just realized there is some historical context that might be usefull both Frank Ocean and The Weeknd and also Drake to an extent (because he mixes R&B with Rap) were seen as this new wave of R&B that was darker moodier and tackeled different song topics, over the more safe commercial forms of R&B. So that is another reason why there is a focus on telling these stories about men using women in these ways its meant to break the mold of love stories told in mainstream R&B (To be clear this is not me saying older R&B didnt tackle those subjects this was just the media conversation around them at the time since all of these guys came up and built their fanbases on the same blogs and mixtape scene as Tyler,Kendrick,J Cole,Mac Miller,Danny Brown,Asap Rocky etc they were scene as Alternative to the Chris Brown and Ushers of the world)

Modelo

My lord the production on this album reminds me so much of older soul records. Churchy chords and live instrumentation is done so well here and later fully mastered majestically in Blonde. Can’t wait for that reaction. TPAB level for sure.

Marsie

love this album so much! it's definitely lyrically dense, but most of it is derived from personal experiences for Frank Ocean, or stories that he's created/heard.

Nathan

We need a Vambie tin foil hat for all these theories😂😂😂

Inglewood

So there was a song you missed a bonus track if you bought a physical copy of the album “CD”….song is called Golden Girl ft. Tyler the Creator….hopefully you can react to it when you watch the music videos of this album

Vambie_Reacts

We can just add the hat to my existing Swiftie clown nose 🤡 it will really round out the look 😹

Vambie_Reacts

It, along with a few others, was added to a missed content video we will do at the end of the journey since it wasn't brought up when the schedule was created 🙌🏻 :)

JB

“Fertilizer, I’ll take BULL SHIT if that’s all you got” hasn’t exited my brain since.

JB

The immaculate sound you hear in “start” is the first PlayStation startup—followed by Street Fighter II menu 🙂 (I haven’t owned a tv game console since PS1)

James Edwards

the amount of time spent on "Start" was hilarious. Also - there are adults who don't recognize the Playstation 1 start up sound. Cool cool coo. * edit * ... is Pyramids not a mindblowing song to people? The way she just shrugged after it was over and moved on lol.

Isaac

Super Rich Kids is a song written by poor kids pretending to be from the hills. Nothing they talk about is relevant to them, it's just "If I was a rich kid I would ____"

Isaac

Read Earls verse on Genius with the footnotes , you'll go "Ohhhhhhhhhhhh" lol

Ramza

Oh wow I never realised thinkin bout you was Frank Ocean

LimitlessEntertainment

Did any of the Pyramids discussion get cut out or was that affected by the interruptions? I was interested in hearing your take on that song but you didn't really say anything about the song at all which was weird for your channel. (Not trying to have this come across as hate but I know some people take it that way, just a genuine question/confusion)

LimitlessEntertainment

My question exactly? It's one of the craziest storytelling tracks ever to me

Bryan Alvarado

You have to listen to Golden Girl. It was a hidden bonus track after End and features Tyler The Creator

Vambie_Reacts

Yes! I actually just filmed it 🙌🏻 It will be in the missed content video at the end of the journey :)

Jonathan Riley

Definitely don’t wanna be that person… but you definitely listened out of order lololol
