The Dad Crew sits down to talk through the epic three-part mini series set in the brutal grimdark world of Warhammer 40,000.

They get into the apocalyptic traffic jam that diverted the recording, what it was like for Matt to step into the DM seat  and his original plan for each of the three episodes, Anthony's actual sadness as a result of the campaign, the challenge of running a campaign with both meaning and humor in this brutal world, and the difference between dying in Warhammer and dying in Call of Cthulhu.

I’ve never clicked a notification so fast

Dionysus

omg perfect timing for the grim dark talk right before a killer storm

Lander Darby

Just finished my work time for some daddies

Katherine

I just started the Death Guard book and this popped up!

banana Peel

I have been PRAYING to see this in my feed for weeks

Dylan Zeigler

Mork borg is so fun I’m playing a solo campaign rn and loving it

Dionysus

10/10 episode i just recently started paying for patreon and im happy to say its 1000% worth it ive loved every single thing on here

Henry Houston

Taken dads in the never stop system could go crazy. Maximum mania

Raos TheGray

I live in utah and I would love to see you all RP mormons, i bet theres some gold there

Alex

Tbh this series wasn’t worth the wait imo.

Peep Põdder

The Blades in the Dark in space hack is called Scum and Villany for anyone interested

daemoninwhite

If Anthony's still looking for something good and easy for Dads in Space, highly recommend SW5E, which is a Star Wars flavoured variant of DnD 5E http://sw5e.com/

Parker

My favorite series so far!

Alex

It had its moments. But there wasn’t anything that really hit me like Sons and Sonsability or And Dad There Was None.

Galaxy Croissant

I don't think they're going back to Star wars lmfao

Galaxy Croissant

The issue mostly comes from how hyped up it was. The other mini series had a month or so of hype, but dahammer had at least 5, which over hyped it.

daemoninwhite

D20 were able to mod it for A Starstruck Galaxy so I'm sure they would be able to do the same things

Matthew Cagle

Step House sounds awfully similar the 90's sitcom Step by Step lol

jen Rogue

This was a great short shots. My husband and I just got the root rpg. I think you all would enjoy. You play as woodland creatures.

Charlie

Wills talking about scum and villainy and damn it I could've sent them my copy instead of donating it. Didn't enjoy the system for my group but would be great for a podcast.

Alex

Yea we were hearing about it for MONTHS. Also, there’s no behind the scene pics of the miniatures like in Kingdom Dad Monster how?!

Cumbia Zookeeper

I feel like you folks would shine playing Delta Green, which is the Cthulu system, but X-Files

Oh Lordii

Speaking of video content, would you all want to do a commander game? I remember y’all playing on the first tour and not sure if anyone continued to play. Maybe Jimmy could make a guest appearance for the game?

Trombone boys

I tried to fall asleep to episode 2 but I had to listen to something else because I couldn’t stop laughing

KingusDingus

Can we get a guest spot with Maxton Waller about making the music for you guys? He's such an amazing artist and to hear his stuff in full it takes entire meanings and encompasses the campaigns and even their eventual directions

Sean Boyle

Suggestion for Grandads in Space. The Stargate TtRPG by Wyvern games is really good. It runs mostly like DnD but has classes races and backgrounds that fit a sci fi space adventure a lot better. Instead of finding loot the party can requisition gear from their parent organization before missions and it adds Moxie to make social encounters more dynamic and meaningful. You'd want to change the names of the races and aliens since they are all from the Stargate Franchise but it would be a fun system to listen to in my opinion.

drmimms

Monster of the Week is a very fun system, just fyi! But I love the idea of Taken Dads too.

Maladapted

Matt should do a star wars mini series

Samwise Samgee

Matt saying that he played Salamanders because they were green reminded me that when I chose my army Raven Guard was because they were mostly black and I couldn’t paint very well… so that seemed the easiest!

Elio Cury Benazzi

OMG they mentioned Mork Borg! It's happening! Finally

Zack Bochman

finally, a reference to Matt @ing everyone on the discord.

Kaiddance

In the game Fable, I never could play evil alignment because I always felt like I was going to Hell. In the Sims 4 Star Wars Journey to Batuu pack, my son gets mad at me every time I take a quest from the First Order. 🤣

Matt SandSweep

Idk if they’ve heard of it but there is a Destiny 2 ttrpg that’s like D&D and Destiny that they might like!

NegativeOffset

Yes, please use the blades system. We want dad’s in the dark.

Rich

So I created a super simple pen and paper built for theater of the mind everything including combat is skill checks and the skills are open and customizable would post a document here but I’m not sure if I’m ready for all the random people to be in my document but if you want to check it out I can give it to you

Adam Burt

I feel like you guys could do some real fun stuff with DIE. It's a full system but pretty simple overall with mechanics built around a lot of freedom and character. Basically you play people playing a TTRPG and get sucked into it, but the actual system itself could be used however you want.

Ellen Jensen Garrett

There’s a great super simple sci fi rpg system called These Dark Places and it’s like Alien and simply amazing.

Marcus

Did they post the minis anywhere?

Joseph Richardson

I believe there are at least two. They've covered the season 1 and 2 themes

Golden_Grimm

Still hoping for Daddy max one day

Andrew

Grandads in space!?!!!?

El-Rudo92

Still wanting that 2nd episode of their detective agency

Justin Benjamin

Hearing them talk about my hometown in the opener is INSANE ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

Natalie Rose

Pingmageddeon Mention omg…

BT Bishop

The guy who wrote Dogs in the Vineyard pulled it from sale because he now feels like it whitewashes genocide, so maybe not that one

Josh J

Yeah it’s one of the weaker ones, though I think Ep 1 and 2 have some really funny moments.

N8

Omg yes please do video battle reports of Killteam!!! 🙏🙏🙏

UrdnotVick

I mean.. can't go wrong with shadowrun for a sci-fi/cyberpunk fantasy setting? I played the pc version, idk how well the ttrpg version of it is..

Eddy B

More please

Maya

roll for shoes is the perfect miniseries system, especially for this group. i dont know how it would play out over a true campaign (probably not well) but ive run it countless times with friends and its absolutely amazing.

Reverend Chatterbones

I am so horny to see Anthony back in the hot seat. Pitch for the new name of the grandpas in space campaign in keeping with the dungeons and daddies naming format: Peepaws & Pulsars

CacheBooks

Geezers in the Galaxy

MurseNick

Matt the salamanders only burned xeno children alive my guy. No reason to feel bad. 😋

Alex H.

Anthony, Beth and Freddie played Blades on Stream of Blood, now part of the Glass Cannon Network!

Alex H.

It's so funny, they would rock it

Alex H.

Cyberpunk RED is a much better system, Shadowrun is a good setting but a bit of a mess, especially for non-rules heads

hexcat

This series got me into reading Warhammer books and Rogue Trader, so thank you so much. I'd love more!!

Alex H.

Triangle Agency is also good for this vibe and a little sillier

Alex H.

Free on YouTube if you want to watch it. I'm a big fan of Jared, the GM

MikeBellZombie

Wonderful! Please feel free to do whatever you want!

Stephen Underwood

If you all do another system for a one-shot or maybe even campaign and are considering something space-based, you should absolutely consider Mothership! It's a dystopian space horror based more on the old-school roleplay style systems, so it lends itself well to audio based programs as there is a ton of room for narrative combat and interactions. It's a ton of fun and has a lot of really cool elements that draw influence from things like SCP, for example. Death is a big part of the game, and combat is very punishing but exciting. I think it would fit your all's play style super well, especially with how Anthony described issues with complexity in systems.

Mr. Greenhand

I don't know if it's forgiving enough, but I personally enjoy Mongoose Traveller as a space centered TTRPG

John

I mean, the easy answer for "what system doesn't get in the way and also is in space" is just Lasers and Feelings, but the cool guy answers are either Coriolis or Diaspora.

Midwestnerd

I would LOVE hearing ya'll playing Blades in the Dark, I'm super interested in seeing how chaotic Freddie and Will gets when a Flashback is ingrained in the system

Chris Gresham

I know the expanse has a system now. Bought the book over a year ago…still haven’t got around to reading it though.

Mr.ClassyRamen

Blades in the dark would be an awesome system for the podcast, especially with the space version Scum and Villainy

Doyle Just Doyle

Grandads in Space could use DnD 1e --- poking 10-foot poles at an airlock for a dozen episodes in a row

Colton Parker

You could always play as different factions in Warhammer like Ork and Eldar.

Leo Hall

Beth ... I spend hours making sure my playlist set too, i feel you

Maya

omg the orks would be so funny. theyd just fight each other and generate spontaneous founts of knowledge

Paul Litch

Check out Lawman as a space system game.

Brandon Sifuentez

I thought Vitamix looking for love was hilarious 😂

James Curtiss

Temecula?? Wait I live in Temecula, dads!! The 15 freeway is that bad 24/7 😭

Freya Hogarth

Anthony being a fellow sisters player brings me joy!

Maciej Łatosz

Monster of the Week is a pretty simple system - my players like the fact that (almost) every episode we played had a conclusion in solving the mystery/killing the monster, but still there were character arcs that went on for the whole campaign Felt like a tv series

Justin Ruzeck

Bro as someone who used to live in Temecula until last year the traffic jams are hands down the worst. It is an armpit in SoCal between San Diego and LA. Plus they were doing construction on the 215 when I left and that made it much worse.

Michael Purscell

I’d love a Warhammer painting stream with Matt! I too have a grey army of shame

FloralKitten172

Hey at 22:44 what are they talking about? I'd like to listen to the thing they're recommending but I cant hear it

UrsaMajor_Issue

Hey girl are you in the cast of twisters? Cause I’m watching from the front row and I like *Freddy voice* THICK, BIG people, big WIDEEE people. 😂

UrsaMajor_Issue

I tried to catch it, commented what I heard, and then googled it because wow i messed up the spelling 😂 Will says warhammer necron don quixote I believe lol

UrsaMajor_Issue

MORK BORG IS SO FUN I would love to hear the gang play it

Kerrigan

Mörk Borg would be SOOO fun to listen to and hopefully play too. Ive loved the system and vibes/universe and was so hype to hear that yall might be interested in it

Alex Podcast

I nominate Glitter Hearts for a mini-series. Sailor Moon and Power Rangers inspired.

LC Hopalong

Because of Anthony my husband and I now talk about playing "Wogue Twadah" and visiting the "Space Docto Dooms" we find in the systems.

McCrunchy _

anthony: "You was there too McQueen"

Sam Arkush

It’s been awhile since our last full-blown miniseries

Amy Arpan

When Anthony and Beth both decided to shut the door in the flame tube I laughed so hard. It also made a great point about actually being true to what your character would do - despite liking your friends you may be playing the game with. Same when Freddie said, "were killing this guy, right?" I'll also add that this game system was super interesting by the simple fact that death was something that could happen at anytime to anyone. Like watching / reading Joss Whedon, JJ Abrams or R Martin. Plot Armour? Nope. 😛
