Got to love me a good safe space

Smidazzle

Great way to start my Tuesday

J-Rock

Ahhh yeah!

Sean

Gorogoa mentioned 🙌😎

Big Ballz McGee 9001

There's so many bibles. I'm looking at the Manga Bible on my shelf rn

Tom Bruynell

I played gorogoa recently, it’s a good 2 hour game with cool visuals. Very artistic puzzle game.

Toasty

My favorite is the ACTION Bible

Toasty

I better see some fan art of my favorite time traveling sapphic women in this Zine

Christian Crutchfield

My chuck e cheese story is that I had a birthday there. It was beautiful! Band was playing. I was eating pasquale's pizza and my blue Santa claus birthday cake. Then two girls kissed me on the cheek, and I cried. My uncle told me to stop crying so I went to the tunnels and stepped in human poop. Also, my teen study Bible told me that pre marital sex was like putting a cat in the microwave

Dusti Nalley

Haha the electroschock game xD when I was about 10, we were in a toy shop and they had that game sitting out. I had no idea what it was an immediately walked up, grabbed two hands, and shocked myself xD

Beth (not that one)

A childhood game I encouraged many to play was 'Clump down the stairs' where you roll yourself up in a duvet and throw yourself down the stairs 🤷🏼‍♀️

Jacob Rogers

There’s a group at the game store I’m a member at and they host two Blood on the Clocktower nights a month and are in groups that meet up or play online. I quite enjoy it, but some of those folks go hard. They have designated storytellers to help keep track of everything.

Michael Purscell

Dale strikes me as trying to make up for his daughter being a helicopter parent or something. They’re too strict so he let’s them have fun

Aaron

Pre ordered for the online show for 29th, Good luck Beth! (And future happy birthday Will!!)

Sean

AND OUTER WILDS?! I've reach indie gamer nirvana

Michael Purscell

I’m so sorry, but I’ve listened to this episode 2 or 3 times and I have no idea who they’re talking about as the antagonist. I still don’t know which between the IBS and Luminous are good

Josh Christopher

Ninja Creamy, my new stage name Also, Pie Face is the Russian Roulette of games.

Maia Woods

liquid caterpillar dad............... sounds like a teensects character to me

withinmyself

It's insane to say that fast food is consistent. I don't know a single fast food restaurant that provides the same food each time. So if in and out is that, then it's definitely a plus.

Shaun_qb

I love the dynamic this season. It makes me think about the future, too. I definitely worry about living long enough to be there for my kids as they become adults and maybe parents themselves, but I also don't want to live so long that I can't do things on my own and become a burden on my kids

Noelle Bartley

Same. I’m like—huh? Hive mind?? I don’t remember that at all in the last episode 😬

Wayne Swayze

Holy shit thanks for talking about nothingness, feels good to not be alone

Anthony cadena

Sir Wong, I was raised in Texas and was about as loyal as one can be to Whataburger, with small infidelity lapses with the mistress that was Checkers burgers. 20 years ago, I moved to the Bay Area and for about a year; maybe two, challenged the idea that In and Out held a candle to my King of Burgers (*NOT BK). That being said, in 20 years of enjoying In and Out, I have expressed incisively that what makes In and Out one if not THE best burger place is the gosh darn incredible consistency!! In 20 years, I have never once had to moan and groan about them getting my order wrong, and my order isn't a cookie cutter common style. 3x3 with Xtra Mustard add chopped chili's and, even though I don't need to say it I do, NO ONIONS pls and they have ALWAYS w/o fail gotten it perfect every God Lovin time! So, in short lol, I am right there with you sir! And if this hill is your undiagnosed mental illness, wear it proudly my guy!! Love ya!

Heartland Animation

You can also let the grandparents be the kids in this season. Ive noticed as my mom has gotten older she is more of a secondary force in our adult lives. Instead of “put your shoes on were at grandmas” its the opposite for her visiting grandkid. Like for instance, wills character clearly wants his wife back, and these children are still family, and space still exists. Plenty of motivation. Shit if matts character was asked to cruise space for fun, he’d be stoked. Honestly this season is ripe for a crazy turn and different vibe than any of the other seasons. Coming up to a grandkid who actually has power over the players is a wild dynamic to see these grandpas respond to and squirm under!

daniel alaniz

Dude Matt's daughter is 6??? I remember when the dads groaned when he mentioned her being born. Lol

Christopher Lee

Dave and Buster’s is NOT Chuck E. Cheese.

Xen Forest

Speaking of werewolf like games: Smosh plays those games a lot and it’s super fun when you have a big group of people and one person willing to be the storyteller. There are also apps they use for the games. It’s fun! Probably my favorite to watch!

Daniel Bryn

How do monks tolerate thinking about Nothing all the time?

Bettybits

In Vermont soft serve is called "creemees" (pronounced creamies)

Ren the Stargazer

I was relistening to S1 and they were all groaning that she was 2yo because Matt was turning Dot facts into Grant facts! Time is weird

Ren the Stargazer

I'm pretty sure they made it into the last one, so I expect they will again

Garrett McCown

Unless I completely missed some details in the episode. Huge spoilers about it being a hive mind.

Tony Loch

I loathe Chic-Fil-A. It’s basic breading, no seasoning of any kind, and the chicken is brined in pickle juice, which I absolutely HATE.

Miffsible Miff

With you on the nothing-panic Anthony. Sometimes its quieter, sometimes it's louder but I hate it so much.

Cameron laing

I feel very validated that having a successful internet podcast thing doesn't stop the fear of nothingness! Like, I dont feel this way because im failing in some way. Anyway ill be back to overshare another day!

Michael Purscell

Very weird for them to miss that in editing. Maybe the crew should actually listen to their own podcast? So they know what’s on it?

Garrett McCown

Agreed, you can hear Anthony trying to deflect the conversation in a different direction and then they just keep talking about it

Sara Creel

I’m gonna need Matt to share his ice cream recipes

Jessica Estep

I have a panic attack trying to think about where the universe ends...like it's us, our solar system, the milky way, then then it just goes on and on and on .....

the slunch

lots of board game talk.. i’m gonna need y’all to get on Smosh Games, play some flip 7, tiny laser heist, wavelength, ANYTHING

Quique Kaufman-Sedano

Anthony if you every find out any comfort to what you were discussing about that crippling dread of death and eternal nothingness i would love to hear it because its deadful to live with. Regardless thanks for this podcast its really a comfort for me and actually helps keep those thoughts away so im really grateful to all of you for this wonderful piece of media ❤️

Dump Daze

Its new, pretty sure. I suspect its a third faction

Dump Daze

It seemed pretty likely from the way Jessica Messica was acting that there was some kind of hive mind or psychic connection going on

Lambchop369

Yeah there's some kind of editing or timeline issue here. I relistened to the episode, nd all it says is that it's Jessica Messica (the Luminous that they already met) then she's mean and disappears. During the episode, they don't explain at any point about an antagonist, a hive mind, or anything else they discuss here during Safe Space.

Marie-Claire Bovet

This is a great talk! Hey has any of you read SandTalk by Tyson Yunkaporta? I’ve never reread a book in my life (besides hp) and i’ve read it thrice within the last year and think about it every day and its about everything, but also the anxiety of our society about what comes after death caused partly by letting our narcissistic side of our selves roam unchecked. And linear time :p. And also: the power of story, the innate satisfaction of creation (and its relation to humor) and context and well. Its just.. if there ‘d be one book i was allowed to have for the rest of my life it would be a difficult choice between robin wall kimmerer and this one but i think this one is harder to grasp so i’d choose this one. (There’s one mistake in it he later acknowledges about the ouraboras and one chapter that feels a bit weird towards the end about (street) fights but also interesting i guess - but i dont know enough about it to really form an opinion on it). (Btw if anyone has read it and it has major faults please let me know!!!)

Andrea Rosado Quiñones

Sorry Matt but a game that comes with a realistic looking gun is not a good idea because some people will abuse that

Andrea Rosado Quiñones

Sorry if that sounded mean but some people can’t differentiate between cell phones and guns, giving the general public an easily accessible realistic looking gun would be bad

AaronDarkblade

I hate them being positive about Chick-fil-a considering all the anti-gay legislation they've funded and all the money they've donated to foreign anti-gay regimes. Love the rest of the episode tho.

Nicolette Taylor

If D&Dads released “Real Russian Roulette; Not A Real Gun” I would but it in a heartbeat

Pseudolus

During all that talk about Annapurna games I was waiting for someone to bring up outer wilds and I happy that Anthony brought it up cause that’s one of my favorite games

Ghostilly 🦇

Damn not the episode to listen to at 6am at work with the what happens after death talk thats like my only true fear lol too early for this

KeeV

There's an MBIC where they play tiny laser heist.

Shiny Primeape

As someone that had so much death anxiety this past year, hearing the daddies’ take was very soothing

MooRoo25

Liquid Dad is my band name 😂

starcatmoondog

i have a list of matt sayings on my tumblr. there’s much more than 12. make the calendar i beg

Marissa Y.

I've been attempting to make cross stitch patterns of them, I'd love to see the post!

starcatmoondog

it’s pinned on my tumblr @starcatmoondog !!

Zenabel

What if the grandkids have kids

Laci B

not to be morbid, but on the topic of aging and death: someone very close to me works at a children’s hospital. she sees a lot of kids recover. she also sees some pass. i used to be so scared of getting old, but she told me, “getting older is a privilege.” that really shifted my perspective. getting older still feels intimidating because it means the end is getting closer, but it also means i’ve had a life. birthdays and wrinkles make me feel lucky now.

Creekie05

Or just leave, in n out is overrated, no matter where you get it from. And yes I have had California in n out.

Creekie05

Chik fil a is mid

Juan Nieto

Dammit!! Yall better open your listening holes because Freddie is dropping some truth!! Fast food taste different. The whopper got crappier! McDonalds got smaller! in-n-out…. Will never be better than whataburger!! That last one is pretty biased, but I stand with my first two takes!!

Eva Vasileiadou

Unfortunately, Chick-fil-a does not treat their employees well. My husband worked there, and not only were they not good to him, but he says that they would only promote actively religious employees to higher positions, regardless of length of employment, or even how good they were at their job. Obviously, I can’t speak for every single one, but I’ve heard similar things from many people who worked there.

Fearne Pérez

Moving from a call for submissions for a pride art zine straight into “I only play video games for boobs and guns fuck your storytelling” was a WILD turn 😂

Benjamin P Parson Gomberg

Really disagree on DnD being ADHD unfriendly. I’ve got severe adhd and DnD has been one of my favorite pastimes for more than twenty years. Mileage may vary, but I think it’s much more about the individual’s interests and personality than being incompatible with certain neurodivergence. If you don’t like it, then adhd is likely going to make it harder to pay attention and play well, but that’s like every activity in my experience. There are probably certain genres of video games for instance that Anthony enjoys and can dive into that I would bounce right off. Blaming ADHD for not enjoying DnD rules just seems to me to be an admission to just not liking DnD (at least rules based DnD) and adhd just makes it harder to focus on a task you don’t enjoy and aren’t interested in.

Ryan

"Wipe my butt," lol dead!

Cree

As a father of a three and a one year old, I formally submit a petition to have a podcast with Matt and Will (and whomever else) talking about being a parent and their kids. I’d listen to the hell out of that.

Lula Hiigel

“Good Riddance” is my favorite song about death, and it’s pretty well summed up by Will’s comment about the moment of acknowledging the lifting of burden’s immediately preceding death. I take comfort in the possibility of both nothingness and an afterlife. I choose to believe there’s something after, but if I’m wrong, I literally won’t exist to perceive it. It’s win-win!

Halophyte

As far as becoming old and becoming a burden, there is SOME say. I work with old folks in physical therapy, cardiac rehab, and the difference between a 92 yo who lifts weights 3x a week for 60 years and a sedentary 70 is ASTOUNDING. Part of it IS luck, you know, we're all one devastating back injury away from being limited in our ability to exercise, but as far as things you do have control over, we have more of a choicd than you'd think.

Halophyte

Yes!! I had the same thought. It could become about the grandmother hypothesis. But with grandads I guess 😂

Halophyte

Liquid dad was insane. My dad is unfortunately still liquid. Well he did say "green energy is a communist conspiracy to undermine American industry" yesterday so maybe I'm trying to ignore the conspiracy theorist butterfly that came out of his cocoon.

Michael Purscell

Apart from the owner’s personal stuff, the corporation has ended most of these ties over a decade ago. Aside from that, the chicken is pretty good.

AaronDarkblade

I mean, the owners personal stuff still matters IMO, just like JKRs personal spending matters if you buy HP stuff. And it mat have stopped on an obvious professional level, I saw it happen and just stopped supporting them a long time ago and hadn't heard they'd stopped. But again, if the owner is stil doing that, you're still funding that. And, yeah their chicken is good, but as consumers we have to decided sometimes on principals vs comfort, and I choose the lives of gay people over chicken. And also its just pickle juice, you can easily mimic their chicken at home, my family has done it for years.

Shelby Wright

Thanks, guys, my anxiety of not existing anymore and what comes after death is *spiraling* 😂😂😂

Kelterzus

As a person with ADD, resource management games or games with multiple things going on are the BEST for keeping my attention....

Juanjomeister

Wild to hear as someone who works at sharkninja lol.

jawnster

I wish yall would do Last Meals on Mythical Kitchen. All individually, or everyone individual except Matt & Freddie 😆

Dungeons and Daddies

Someone tell Mythical Kitchen that, because I've been totally saying this, too!

Ethan Young

Im glad im not the only one thinking about dying every second of my existence 😂😅

Zac Childs

34:40 didn't get enough attention. Outer Wilds is the best game.

Grizz Lee

Man im just like anthony with the death/nothingness fear. Like everytime i even have a good time the thought of nothingness is just in my mind.

Connor Kingfisher

Ty I rewound it thrice to hear what Anthony said

July

the conversation at the end made me think of 17776

Mathew Reyes

Anyone else get whiplash when Matt said Dot is 7 years old? Jfc, I remember listening to the pod before she was born, damn I feel old now

Caroline McNatt

i had this EXACT thought when i was listening earlier today omg

Anthony cadena

I think there's a reference to that fact in that new Netflix series something really bad is gonna happen.

Bettybits

Allegedly it is a different fat and sugar ratio than other soft serve. It is fun though telling people we could go out for creemees when they visit.

AaronDarkblade

Because they didn't. The corporation stopped direct corporate donations. The owners still donate to ant-gay legislation, including groups trying to oppose the Equality act. MAYBE the owner stopped after that. Despite it being a decade after they pledged to stop, but its hard to track and unlikely. AND the corporation still heavily gives money to republican politicians. Not to mention their discrimination on employees who are trans. It's really not hard to say we shouldn't eat there because their money and views still support these things. Pickle chicken is not good enough for me to want to ignore the high likelihood my money will still go to hurt lgbtqia+ folks.

Belligerant_Me

I have never been so triggered as when Matt misattributed battlestar galactica to Scientology, instead of glen a Larson, the formulaic knockoff king of television.

Belligerant_Me

I wonder if the daddies (especially Anthony) are aware that epigenetically, children look and behave more like their grandparents, even though they bear more actual dna from the parents themselves. Basically, every person born is like an envelope that passes the letter of their parent to their own children, who then take that envelope apart and make it the letter that goes into their envelope for their own kids.

Mac_Enby

Playing Wavelength recently was funny because the extremes are always 'is it as bad as being put in lava' or 'as good as world peace'. Also we did BotCT with a really good DM and it was a blast, and half the players were drunk.

Snugulorf

In college, I played Apples to Apples with an inflatable turkey... and the turkey won.

Shannon

Now I’m going to be waiting for a line of ice cream from Matt. Apples to Apples > Cards Against Humanity. Apples to Apples is great because of all the people in it, half the time only one person knows who they are which makes it better.

Taco Dragons

I've said it before but I love Matt.

Kianna Hammond

I died laughing when Matt talked about the water bottle game. It was a fan favorite for my military guys when we were deployed in the middle east. Or they would use a giant tape ball.

Jacob

Freddy’s talking about enshittification yall

Umbra Night

they shrink flate so hard i don’t eat there anymore lol

AaronDarkblade

I hate that so many places have done that too. Even places with good deals, they're all half the size they used to be.

sneebo

Will's Scooby Doo laugh at the end of this took me the fuck out! LMFAO If anyone else noticed it, let me know, 'cause right now I feel like that song, "Nobody thinks what I think,".

Michael Purscell

My friends’ rock game was tag on jungle gym sets, but whoever is it has their eyes closed. They can also call “rocks” and whoever is on rocks is out. We got really good at parkour

Cassidy Bassidy

Hey, maybe we shouldn't support Chick-fil-A! "Its okay they stopped being homophobic" NO! The people who profit from Chick-fil-A are still homophobic, and you shouldn't give your money to people who used to give that money to people fighting to take away peoples rights. All of these companies are evil, why spend money at one that is extra evil?

moonjams

I’m with Anthony, I hate the idea of nothing. I wanna keep eating ice cream and thinking about things. Honestly, I’d rather be immortal and go insane. Sounds fun compared to never getting to do anything again.

gerg bergles

28 minutes in and i agree with matts character description. Youre describing my father in law 85, still has his strength and senses and everyday is “whatever”

ShannyKrik

Its mentioned in the previous episode and current as well. Example: when they first enter the station is an example where they all turn and look at the group in the hallway

ShannyKrik

EchoLAYlia- For those of you who need a deeper explanation its is not just quoting something, or saying something in a funny voice. Typically its a function of Gestalt language learning in kids who use whole phrases either to communicate a thought, self sooth, or stimulate. If to communicate, they may say a single phrase from a TV show like “you won a million dollars!!” To indicate the general idea of “I am excited” stuff like that. Its nuanced though, depending on the age of the person of course. Looks different in adults vs kids who only speak in echolalia. You can tell because someone who uses echolalia, their non echo speech is also not tonally typical. They may speak with a flat tone, or sing-songy. Or not speak at all EXCEPT only in quotes. Again, nuanced - from a speech therapist who works with kids & teens with ADHD and ASD :) and has a family member now 23 who speaks in echolalia about 80% of the time. no shade on the Daddies! just in case someone was curious for more details.

ShannyKrik

They talk about hive mind in previous episode I think. Remember when all the people turned and looked at them together and welcomed them in? . Also jessica messica operated that way in the arcade planet thing

Claire Wilson

Like Matt, I cannot play social deduction and subterfuge games, but for different reasons, I think. I know logicially that it is just a game and everyone is just playing and how people act in the game is not reflective of their true character. However, my nervous chihuahua of a parasympathetic system cannot tell the difference between "pretend fun" betrayal and the real shattering betrayal of my good friends believably lying to my face for their own gain. My feelings get so hurt by those games lol.

corundum liqueur

Freddy doesn’t have a mental illness. He has a mental superpower.

corundum liqueur

New sticker idea “scope the colon, poke the prost, grip the nards” for health awareness

Andrew Worthington

Sounds like you don't know how to separate the art from the artist.

Mel Mel

When they were talking about the afterlife being boring eventually I was just like "mention. The. Good. Place." Trying to manifest someone to bring it up 😅

Joey

This is nuts, I have to share this coincidence somewhere. Watched evangelion before listening to last safe space and they reference it there. Then last night I watched the episode of South Park where they talk about Scientology and John travolta and they IMMEDIATELY talk about that lmao crazy

Emperor Of Catdom

I was super high and spiraled thinking I was gonna die, and I relaxed when I realized I no longer had to wake up at 4:30am to work two jobs and study calculus. When I woke up to realize I had not died, I have or will never be angrier.

Devon Willingham

Chic fil an isn’t good enough to forget the atrocities they commit. Also chicken express is the best fast food chicken.

Devon Willingham

We called that water ball nut game nut ball but it was with a ball

William

brother they are literally saying all they are good for is fast food, they ain't callin othem saints or shit (pun intended)

AaronDarkblade

Brother, and all I'm saying is that isn't true either 🤷‍♂️
