Honestly as soon as they were mentioning trusting your audience to figure out the message I thought about obsession. Me and my wife chatted about that movie constantly for like 2 or 3 days after it and it was a lot of fun having a movie that just let you do that. It did a good job of showing you without spelling it out in plain text and allowing you to get there. And there was stuff I didn't fully catch in the movie until after chatting with her about it and gaining a deeper understanding of the movie, even though it's a pretty simple tale of guy sucks, wish goes bad.

One, salad is the CLEAR right option because it is so insanely customisable, see pasta salads, sweet salads, roast salads. And two, I know no one asked me but I have a deep pull for media I have cried too, and I don't watch movies so it is a YouTube video, kill me if you want, but the YouTuber Goragle playing the Rain World Saint campaign made me cry my eyes out like nothing else. I think the most full-on ugly cry I've experienced in a theater was seeing the end of "Arrival" after a year of marriage turmoil capped off with my wife undergoing cancer treatment. That absolutely broke me. Second place goes to last year's "The Life of Chuck", which so completely gets the experience of dying of a terminal illness that it broke me all over again

Towards Beth’s point about Freddie’s dramatic twist: the fact that Freddie consistently makes the sillier character choice when given the choice is exactly why it hits so much harder when he makes a more dramatic/tragic choice. By breaking from expectations Freddie made this one character death feel more real and more tragic than almost any other in all of d&dads imo.

Imo a great example of a character only being explored by external stuff is the anime/manga/webcomic One Punch Man. Saitama's character is never really explored by him. He never expresses wants other then really simple stuff like getting groceries. But every villian he punches has an aspect of his own character that reflects back at him. Like the giant guy gaining a ton of strength then immediately getting depressed when he realizes he peaked and can never get any better. Saitama himself never expresses feeling that way but we know he does because of that fight. I love this method of story telling and im trying to do something similar in my own writing

I'm currently doing my PhD in cognitive science and I must give props to Matt for making the funniest joke I've heard since George Carlin died. When Matt first asked how to pronounce "anthropomorphise" and they saying that you are anthropomorphisong Freddy, it hit me both personally and professionally in a way that I was not expecting, so kudos to Matt. I have long had strong feelings about soup vs stew. Here are my conclusions: soup and stew are both foods with a definitive volume but not shape (ie a liquid component is necessary) composing of two parts: a broth and the solid ingredients. A soup is Broth Supported, meaning if you shake it, the solid chucks will move freely. A stew is Chunk Supported, meaning if you shake it, the broth will flow in the pore-space between chunks, but the structural integrity of the stew column lies in the chunk matrix. Thank you.

Stopping mid listen to write a novel. I hate the question “what is your favorite word”. Because it triggered a memory from elementary school where my teacher made us write a short paragraph about what our favorite word was. And she just wanted us to use the dictionary and I knew it, so I had a hard time picking a word. I was stubborn so I needed to pick a word from my brain that I could also define on my own. My teacher came to me at some point and said “I think Perseverance is a beautiful word” and I felt twice as mad because I don’t know that word and I’m not going to give in! Eventually I was able to write something I forget what word I chose. I just know that to this day I hate the word perseverance because my teacher tried to make me look it up in the dictionary.

I like the take on game Jobs and essentially cosplaying as something you'll never do, made me realise i do this in real life, a few weekends a year I go off to music festivals and be a fry cook/work a till on a chip (fries) stall. Something I've never done outside of that or would want to, but because It's a festival and it's fun and they let us party while we work it's the best thing ever, even if you are sweating over a fryer in 45° heat at 3am.
