This my next video, the one about the guitar in this month's sample. It took me 14 days to finish this video which makes it the longest video I've ever worked on. I will be releasing this to the public tomorrow, once I've decided on the exact wording of my clickbait title. ;)

Ha! I used to have one of those brown HyLo guitars!

making this video has really made me want to get into those more exotic Japanese designs

Looked better than it sounded, but it was used and in rough shape. Then again, I paid something like fifty bucks for it. Maybe less.

What a great story! I dig the sample library and the song! Just goes to show it's all about what inspires that is far more important than the attached monetary value. I still have my first guitar, a 1978 Ibanez PF-200 (very similar to a Les Paul). It's been beat up a lot by me over the years since I got it in 1984, but it still plays quite well!

I don't play guitar and I'm not a techie but I was still riveted to this story. And what a nice sounding guitar at the end. These vids are always one of life's happy, positive places (and the instruments that come along are so worth having). The only patreon I've kept going; love this channel and love Dave's positive "can do" approach.

Thanks! It's true about instruments. And you really do get the sense that there's a whole world of really great guitars hanging out in basements and garages that have been given short shrift. So your Ibanez is from 1978? I guess that would be right after Ibanez's legal challenge. It must be great!

Thanks so much for the kind words. I've really been putting my all into these videos. :)

It was indeed right after the lawsuit though Ibanez did not change the design very much (as you say in your video the suit was all about the headstock design anyway). I think a lot of those old MIJ guitars are hidden gold. I just sold my 1980 Ibanez Blazer bass that I think may have been made at the same factory as the guitar you made this video about! It fetched a good price from a player in California that missed his original from that time period (to be sure, the bass was in near-mint condition). MIJ guitars are often overlooked gems!

I definitely think that’s the case. I suspect a lot of people who owned these guitars gave them up when they had enough money to “upgrade” to premium brand, only to end up missing the guitar they had upgraded from.
