He's back! Ted is back!

We join him whilst he's back home in Kansas City, with Henry and Michelle.

Then some familiar faces show up in town...

Enjoy!

So far, it's like they took Ted and dropped him into another story /// just noticed the Gonzo T-shirt! (sweet) /// I would've rather seen the Jazz Museum (LoLz) /// "Nope" - new that was coming. /// Interesting start, look forward to see how it goes when he's back in Richmond (as you said) /// I have a bit (tiny bit) of reservation about how this is going to go but I will wait and see /// Thank you, Claudie.

For the first time, I didn’t like it. For me it was weirdly too fast and too slow at the same time. Ted working at a grocery store and somehow not coaching had me stunned. I adored the first three seasons and I really want to like this one but this has me so nervous. Still fun watching it with you though. Freaking Ted Jr.

Loved it. Set up the reasons for Henry and Michelle wanting to move, and used Ted's mom to set the reason for Ted. Every boy loves to see their father doing something he loves. Let's all go to England!

Loved the flip of having the Brits be the fishes out of water in Kansas City. And about the engraving on the stadium wall you read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Title_IX A rare bit of legislation done right.

There were a lot of little things I took note of. The Supermarket Ted is working at is "Fowch's Fine Foods", and the manager is Ronnie. That would be the occasionally mentioned "Little Ronnie Fowch" who once tricked Ted into eating a "Butterfinger" which was actually poo in a Butterfinger wrapper. And, of course, he was eating a Butterfinger. Michelle apparently has a jerk boss named Derek, as did Jade, as did the folks at the Yankee Doodle Burger Barn in Amsterdam. "I fucking hate Derek!" Henry is surely old enough to charge his own iPad. Ted mentioning that Rebecca has "crossed the threshold" for her "Hero's Journey" makes me think this is meant to be Ted's "Call to Adventure". Rebecca finds Breaking Bad hilarious? The new Henry actor also once played a young Luke Skywalker in the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series. Love the Oklahoma callback. Henry's coach is a jerk. I bet he's named Derek. Dazzle Me Moi seems like a shop bespoke for Keeley. You are right about the book. That's "Johnny Tremaine", the book Ted's dad read for him. Ted's photo of Roy has him holding up a trophy. He's wearing a Richmond shirt, so did Richmond "win the whole fucking thing" under Roy? The photo of Keeley is from her photoshoot with Roy, where they didn't use any with him, and it hurt his feeling. Ted has Dr Sharon's Dipping bird next to the photo from Nate. Trent Crimm's article shows that Jamie has, since Ted's departure, left Richmond. Can't wait to see where this all goes.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was feeling the "cinematic" vibe. Like I mentioned in Discord - I think this was also very much an ode to Sudekis' home town. KC is very much a soccer town FWIW. I think a lot of folks (Americans) were shocked when it made the cut as a World Cup city. Maybe now they will realize how big it is there. They have a MSL and NWSL club. FWIW - The women's pro team has not lost a home game yet this season (7-0-2 as of today). It was indeed their stadium featured in the show. Ooo these are some good catches, nice Michael!

There is a parallel to the real world in this episode. With the World Cup in North America recently ending, YouTube is flooded with Europeans reacting to life in America. The food, the cars, the size of stores and the friendliness of people. The setup here with Keely and co taking what they learn in the US and applying it to Richmond is quite clever. The YouTube reactions and this episode are virtually identical. 😀

I think the reasoning behind the grocery store job is that coaching is such a full-time occupation and tends to completely take over life completely in-season and is more and more a year-round immersion these days. If Ted was coming home to truly be about family - He couldn't be a coach again while doing so.

Very good point. I hadn’t considered that. I’ll have to give the episode another watch before next week.

So happy to see Ted and the gang at it again! The start of the season does feel to me like a new storyline.
