Not all goes according to plan...

Hi, I'm always grateful for the great story. Just noticed something is it supposed to say Jameson ? “How was I supposed to know Evans was so prepared?” Yaxley bit back irritably.

Edward

Saw that too.

Bellerophon

This is a little disappointing I was hoping Gaunt would survive. I’ve never seen Voldemort exposed in a story quite so thoroughly as what might’ve been and I think it would’ve been a really interesting twist because it would’ve opened the conflict up in an unprecedented way. A Voldemort no longer able to hide in the shadows and without as much pure blood support would’ve spun the war on its head. How would he have reacted, maybe more continental recruitment? A more violent open war? How would it change the political climate in the Wizengamot, maybe a new faction as the ‘dark’ members who aren’t keen on bowing to half blood move more to the traditionalist grey faction. Idk I think it’s a missed opportunity to open up a really fresh new idea in this time period. Unless Harry secreted Gaunt away before Voldemort arrived and used some sort of dummy to trick him? I don’t see that as likely though which means things go back to the way they were before except a few more people are aware of Voldemorts true identity.

Excellent chapter. Can't wait to see how the Wizarding World reacts to Tom being unmasked.

Zai

A good chapter but one with a predictable outcome which is disappointing. I'd hoped with the introduction of another antagonist Riddle would have been left to the side and dealt with more early.

D C

Circles within circles, I think Riddle is gonna continue to be off balance. I do wonder what curse he got hit with and if its a black specialty what problems is that gonna create for Harry. I wonder whos gonna figure out his background (if anyone ever will that is, i dont think its inevitable in this fic)

Durdens Wrath

Good old useless Albus. "Morfin and Smith are in danger. Oh well I've tried nothing and am out of ideas." No wonder the first war was nearly lost with Albus knowing who targets might be and doing absolutely diddly to protect them.

Bellerophon

Yes, but it’s much harder to prove without the key witness there. I guess that memory dish thing, I’ve forgotten its name now would work just as well. You are correct about Smith but I guess it just doesn’t feel as cathartic as Morfin exposing Tom in front of the Wizengamot. That being said yes you’re right Smith has enough evidence to expose Tom and I forgot about that.

El Escobeezy

Not surprised he confused the two since both Evans and Jameson are the same person. Both are highly trained, and both became Hit Wizards. The difference is that in this Timeline, Evans disappeared before he could take down Grindelwald and was just The Serpent. Also no relationship between him and McGonagall.

Lord Blackadder

I've noted a few chapters past that it has still not be explained/explored the hierarchy of hit wizards in relation to purebloods. We know that purebloods show little to no respect to aurors; however are hit wizards feared, respected, perhaps even revered?? Reason this keeps coming to my mind is due to Jameson's lack of a family connection such as the Peverells for example. How does he gain the respect/fear of the purebloods? Will magical might be sufficient? Other readers have mentioned in not so many words, we have not seen Jamison demonstrate his magical prowess to quell any doubt of his ability, just glimpses by select few (i.e. Amelia, Moody, Smith). Regardless of my understanding of the story progression so far, I am eager to see how the story unfolds.

This was a good chapter, though I think the Aurors are far to accepting of Jameson swanning in and out of their investigation and offices whenever it pleases him. Yes, he does good. But if he wants to be an Auror, he needs to put on a badge. I have this same thought of Dumbledore in canon. If he wants to lead the resistance, he should have become Minister.

Sunny

The Black family meeting has me questioning as to whether blood really was the motivating factor? Like Harry telling people, throughout your stories, that Tom is a half-blood shouldn't really make a difference. Tom was able to style himself as Slytherin's heir and became 'top dog' during his schooling. He then went on his travels where he became more powerful and so if he has all that, while championing the rights of the powerful and echoing their concerns, especially after a generation had witnessed the destructive nature of muggles, I don't think it's likely that people are not gonna follow him. Anyway, thanks for the chapter and I look forward to the next.

Matthew

He’s essentially a consultant, it’s like the police getting training from special forces officers. Harry doesn’t need or want to be an Auror, he’s over qualified. Dumbledore leads the resistance instead of being the Minister because as shown in a lot of fanfiction, the Minister needs to answer to the Wizengamot like the President does to congress. Him being separate from that allows him a lot more freedom.

TheNinja

For now he is anyway, no one is safe after all. Not as long and his minions draw breath anyway.

TheNinja

Harry can try the whole I was never here thing all he wants, but sooner or later he isn't gonna be able to hide his involvement in things like this anymore and there goes more of his anonymity that he lost the majority of the moment he got involved in all this mess.

Hadrian v.E.

Yep, this fiasco is a failure, alright. With Gaunt being such an invaluable asset and both Harry and Smith knowing Voldemort would not allow the testimony to come to pass, WTH didn't they cook up a scheme to disguise Gaunt and hide him in a location only known to them?
