EP 1 : Title - The Time Capsule That Turned Me Into Her : Chapter 4 — When Skin Remembers (Patreon)

Night didn’t fall so much as it settled over the house, like a blanket someone was still tucking in at the corners. Jack sat on the edge of his bed, elbows on knees, staring at his hands the way someone might stare at a clock that refused to tick. He kept replaying it — the whisper, the mirror, the impossible feeling that the voice wasn’t behind him or inside him…but beneath him.Inside the skin.Inside the history of who he could’ve been.
The air felt different tonight. Warmer. Closer. Alive.
He rubbed his forearm absently, the way you brush off a chill. Except this time… it wasn’t cold. His fingertips brushed his skin and paused.Something felt… softer. Not physically.Emotionally.
It was like touching a memory.
Jack blinked hard. “Get it together,” he whispered. But his voice didn’t sound steady. It sounded like someone pretending the ground wasn’t shifting under their feet.
He stood up. Pacing always helped. Or at least, it used to. Each step felt like he was walking through a version of his room slightly out of phase with the real one — as if reality itself was stretching to make space for something new, something long forgotten.
He walked past the mirror, deliberately avoiding the reflection. But the reflection did not avoid him.
Just in the corner of his eye, he saw movement — but when he turned his head, nothing changed. Same room. Same mirror. Same him.
Except…his reflection stood a fraction straighter. Its shoulders a breath narrower. Its jaw softened by a shadow that didn’t exist on his real face.
He stepped closer, heart tightening in his chest. The reflection followed… but not perfectly.A half-second delay.Barely noticeable. But real.
Jack swallowed. “What are you?” he whispered.
The reflection blinked — slower, softer — and for a heartbeat, its eyes shimmered, as if someone else was looking out through his pupils.
A warmth rose beneath his skin, spreading from his fingertips to his wrists, flowing up the arms like water filling a vessel. He gasped and clutched himself instinctively. The sensation wasn’t painful. It was recognition.
His skin felt like it was remembering something he had never lived.
A name drifted across his mind — faint, unfinished, like someone exhaling the first half of a syllable. Not spoken aloud. But felt.
A feminine outline… blurry but present… brushed the edge of his consciousness. She wasn’t forcing her way forward. She was waiting for permission.
Jack staggered back from the mirror as a pressure rose in his chest — not heavy, not frightening… but emotional. Like the moment before tears, the moment before confession, the moment before truth.
His hands trembled. Not from fear. From familiarity.
It was insane. Impossible. Irrational.Yet the warmth beneath the skin kept blooming, like petals opening under light.
He looked at his reflection again. This time, he let himself really see it.
His reflection tilted its head first. Not him.It.
Her.
Jack’s breath caught. Not because the face looking back was fully female — it wasn’t — but because the energy behind the eyes shifted. Something inside the glass held a grace he didn’t recognize. A softness he had never practiced. A knowing that didn’t belong to him…
…but to someone who had been waiting far longer than he realized.
His voice came out barely above a whisper.“What’s happening to me?”
The mirror’s surface shimmered, not physically but emotionally — the way a memory shimmers when it returns with too much clarity.
And for the first time…the whisper returned.
Not from the mirror. Not from the room. From under his heartbeat.
“You’re remembering.”
Jack froze. The words weren’t sound. They were sensation.Like warmth behind the sternum, rising like breath between ribs.
His knees buckled, and he leaned on the dresser to steady himself. “Remembering what?” he whispered, breath shaking.
The warmth spread again — to the throat, the collarbone, the cheeks.
And then a single word emerged.Gentle.Clear.Unavoidable.
Her name.
Not the whole name.Just the feeling of it.Like the first letter brushing his lips, waiting for release.
A tear slipped down his cheek — not from fear, but from a strange, overwhelming relief. He didn’t know why.He didn’t know how.He just knew that something inside him that had been locked away… was finally waking.
His skin glowed faintly in the dim lamp light, not visibly, but in the way you can sense your own pulse during a fever-dream.
He whispered into the stillness, voice breaking—
“Why does this feel… right?”
The answer wasn’t verbal. It was warmth.A hand on the heart. An exhale not his own.A presence that felt ancient and familiar.
A presence that whispered—
“Because it’s who you were meant to be.”
Jack closed his eyes, chest heaving. When he opened them again, the reflection met him with a softness so tender he nearly stepped toward it like stepping toward an embrace.
The chapter of denial was closing.A new truth was blooming.Slowly, beautifully, inevitably.
Tonight wasn’t about changing.Tonight was about remembering. And his skin…already remembered everything.
