This week on Post Games, “What is a video game console launch in 2025?”

Act 1: What’s it like to run a video game shop when a console launches? An interview with Kelsey Lewin, the co-owner of Pink Gorilla Games

Act 2: Nintendo’s history of console launches. An interview with Chris Kohler, Editorial Director of Digital Eclipse

Act 3: The news of the week, including big announcements leading into Summer Game Fest

And for Patreon subscribers, a bonus act: What it was like to be parents scrambling for new consoles and games in the 1990s. An interview with my parents.

Editor's note: I'm publishing the episode a little early this week, in case you took the day off to play Switch 2 and need a podcast to go with your Mario Kart.

The Animal Well one year anniversary vlog

The Nintendo Switch 2 durability test (TechRax)

The Switch 2's best launch exclusive might not be Mario Kart World, but another racing game (and it's under £15) (Eurogamer)

Universal Studios is doing Fallout at Halloween Horror Nights

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet look WAY better on Switch 2 (Serebii)

What else I'm watching

The Talking Heads released a new music video for Psycho Killer, an underrated song for bringing elder millennials to the dance floor. Music video legend Mike Mills collaborated with Saoirse Ronan, who I could have sworn had won an Oscar, but nope. Four nominations. No wins. Criminal!

FX is finally showing footage from its Aliens TV series and… it sure seems like the predator will feature in the show before everything is said and done.

Another awesome episode! Like Kohler, at 39 my excitement for Switch 2 is very muted. I played a bit last night. It’s cool, but I miss the excitement I had… eons ago. (Wii might have been the last big fit of excitement I had. Maybe Switch.) Hope you’re enjoying yours. Ps. Love seeing a “Disney” logo at the end of an Alien trailer lol

Pink Gorilla is awesome! Always stop by when I visit Seattle and usually find a game or three I have been looking for (finally got a Switch hard copy of Inscryption when I was there last). Great to learn more about their store.

I know it's early days but this is rapidly becoming my favourite podcast. Just the chill, nice vibes and thoughtful, informative conversations and journalism...each new episode has really blown me away.

Loving the topics each week, loving how deep a dive there is. Like someone else said, this is quickly becoming my favorite gaming podcast week by week!

Just have to chime in here, currently my favorite podcast as well. Chris Plante you're doing it!!!

I have been loving this podcast (SO happy to support). Chris Plante’s quirky humor (a compliment) + layered conversations of a topic = GOLD! The ACTS (separating the depth) & pristine editing (both musically and vocally, I can only assume taking out the ums and uhs) is an appreciated bonus. ❤️ And the conversation with the parents grew my heart 2x larger. It reminded me of my mother going into a Toys R Us, to pick up Super Metroid, on preorder. The cashier assumed that it was for me, saying something along the lines of “Awesome that she got it for you!” with my Mom replying “It’s for me but I may let him play a little”. Just priceless! 😊

Another excellent episode, Chris! I really enjoyed the point of view you gave a voice to. It’s interesting hearing the crossover of conversations regarding the anxiety in participants at GDC, and the general lack of excitement about the Switch 2 launch. Feels like an uncertain time right now in gaming. Likely it is just a reaction to the uncertainty we’re all feeling in everything.

Chris. First time Poster, long time Gamer (is that anything?). Can I just say - you're nailing it. You might even have what it takes to get into the games journalism industry Jokes aside: I knew we were going to get some serious gourmet shit from you the moment I first heard about it, but you've still genuinely exceeded my expectations and have floored me. The vibes? Fucking immaculate. The conversations? Delightful and insightful. The topics? Niche, nuanced, and exciting. The kind of (games, but anything really) journalism I give a care about.

I haven't had the opportunity to listen to this one yet, but wanted to say thank you for the Sonic The Hedgehog (and friends) stickers. 🙏🥹 Honestly, the moment I saw them I had a good long laugh that I really needed. Oh, and thanks for the artful illustration of Pac-Man as well, of course! I'm told that video games aren't just Pac-Man anymore, but that doesn't mean this nice extra touch isn't appreciated! Thanks, Chris!

You do an excellent job of creating space in your interviews for discussions to grow. A trellis, if you will ;) great episode
