Excited to listen, this sounds like a very special episode.

CorySwiss

What an amazing episode. I’d love to eventually get a Video Game Journalism 101 on interviews!

Kormakur Gardarsson

First time I can remember getting choked up listening to a podcast. What a thoughtful, heartfelt (and wonderfully crude) discussion. The best Post Games episode yet. Thank you, Chris, for your openness and bravery.

Michael Westphal

Chris Plante, you were absolutely right. Great setup. Fantastical research, questions, dialogue. This is an *incredible* episode that had me in tears at times. It's tremendous, and I'm going to listen again. Thank you so much, my parasocial friend. Edmund was just *begging* for an interview like this- and he was so ready for a special person like you. You're doing such great work. <3

If I could hang this interview up on the wall like you would your favorite album cover or movie poster, I would. I just need to express how enraptured I've been with Mewgenics. I'm autistic and when I got my first autistic cat I about lost my mind. Like... obviously I cried I was so overjoyed. So you can imagine how this interview hit me. I have a million things I could say, but what's most important is that not only does society fail those of us on the spectrum, *art* even tends to fail us. The two of you did not fail us. I've been following McMillan's work since I found Gish when I was like 15. In the off chance that he reads any of this I just want to say thank you. Not only did you not fail us, you *championed* us and you've been doing it even if unknowingly for years. For all the freaks. Telling you that "you get it" is so obvious and shallow, but damn I just... And seeing my autistic cat's stats made my fucking year, man. Unbelievable. And Chris, this is my favorite interview I've ever heard come out of games media. You two coming together is this perfect storm that made me feel seen like no other media I consume has. I don't have the right words to properly thank both of you. You guys rip ☆So Fucking Hard☆ and Mewgenics rips ☆So Fucking Hard☆ and Post Games rips ☆So Fucking Hard☆

Kyle Starr

Wonder interview. Thank you both. My daughter was born with moderate hearing loss. She’s 3 1/2 now and will be entering T-K next year. Preschool has been great, but I can’t help but to worry about how a larger class size and the public school system will receive her. Just hearing you both express your own experiences and empathy is encouraging and fortifying.

Post Games

Thank you all for the incredibly kind words. It's always terrifying to publish something tied to a sensitive topic -- let alone a dozen or so sensitive topics. I'm relieved to hear that the episode is resonating!

Goositrous

I had always sort of bounced off the art style of Isaac and now Mewgenics, I just got the vibe that it felt kind of mean spirited. What a great insight this interview was, completely reframed how I approached his work. It’s really nice to learn that it’s coming from a place of thoughtful compassion and earnest interest

FelixA

I have much respect to you and Edmund. My wife only recently got diagnosed with Autism. The signs were there and yet there are so many people who don't understand Neurodivergency and are in denial. I don't disparage her parents but they clearly were dismissive. I really hope it becomes more normalized in our life time. Thank you so much once again Chris.

James W.

Really spectacular interview, Chris. And that music?! Wow. I don't have a gaming PC so I'll have to wait for a Switch release or something, but I'm excited for the game.

Goositrous

Triple Click interviewed Edmund too and even the three of them together couldn’t make him cry

Corey Zornes

Such a thoughtful set of questions and equally intimate and humorous responses. Beautiful episode, Mr. Plante.

Slink

You continue to outdo yourself big dawg, this episode was tremendous! Thanks to both of you for the candidness

Ryan

This was awesome!

Lloydusorrus

Such a great interview. This one is going to stick with me for quite a while

thedevelopnik

I have ADHD and bipolar, and my wife has anxiety and I’ve got my kid in for evaluations right now and I’ve had that exact same breakdown moment about the guilt of it. A reflection I had on his comment on politics is that when you struggle that much personally and in your family it can be so hard to have energy to think about how you will care about the community and country. I float in and out of that zone. I used to be like that, but then I was a public school teacher and that’s what made me “political.” And even caring deeply I can’t always engage and often have to take long breaks. But there’s a reason his public schools couldn’t care for his daughter. And you alluded to larger country-level effects on the Autism and other disordered communities right now. People can say they don’t care about politics, but they can’t keep it from affecting them. And I think the truth there is they don’t have the capacity to extend their attention and care that far outside themselves, which I don’t fault anyone for.

TJ Ronnenberg

I always knew there was a reason I resonated so hard with Binding of Isaac. I have ADHD, harm OCD, and had a similar psych eval experience in public elementary school. Thank you so much for an awesome episode. I've been a fan for a while, but this one is a real gem.

Shawn Frey

I really loved this interview, and the timing for me having just had a kid really hit me in the feels along with you two. I am curious though: why didn't this touch on the voice actor controversy surrounding Mewgenics? There's a lot of good stuff in here that says McMillen isn't the insensitive guy people often assume him to be, but some folks are saying the associations (and homages?) in this game don't support that. Others say it's just a consequence of the long development cycle. I really would have liked to hear some thoughts about that!

Thomas Walsh

This was an interesting interview and, while I fundamentally disagree with Edmund on a few major points, I feel the pathos and passion behind this project and understand it a bit more. I also don't want to speak to the journey that you and your respective children are on (even where it intersects with my own). I would like to note that the phrase "nature versus nurture" was coined by Francis Galton, the founder of the eugenics movement, and is a hugely loaded term which was always designed to imply the the primacy of heredity over social conditions. It is impossible to separate eugenics from its core racist tenant that there are superior races and inferior races and that no "nurture" would ever improve the condition of the inferior people -- thereby justifying racial oppression and white supremacy. It's really disappointing to see someone engage with a topic so much and ignore the racial core of its thought, despite Edmund's other interesting and thoughtful opinions on what it means to be othered because of neurodivergence or deformity in society.

Dustin Belyea

The more I think back on this interview while playing the game the more I feel like it should be included in the game files. This game is fun, has a great gameplay loop, and tons of content, so you can totally ignore the "art" discussions and still get your money's worth, but I feel like anyone who wants that extra layer will benefit from hearing this interview. Even if this was the only content I ever got from this subscription it would be worth it. One of the best interviews. Really appreciate what you did here.
