Hey y’all,

The more I think about this week’s episode, the more I believe I should include the full Patreon section in the free feed. The topics feel important and I think the added context is part of the show, rather than what I normally try to do : expand the topic in a deeper or surprising way.

That said, y’all pay my salary. So I wanted to get your feedback before making the call.

I won’t be doing this more than a couple times a year. I know some folks advocate for making everything available (which is very generous!) but I genuinely love being able to make something special for a smaller audience each week. It’s allowed me to be more personal and creative in unexpected ways.

Should the Patreon bonus be included in this week’s free release?

Share the love. Happy to pay so all can enjoy.

James W.

Absolutely. I don't mind sharing ❤️

Elyse

Yup! I can only speak for myself, but I pay for Patreon because I want to financially support quality games journalism and discussion, not for the extras! So if you want to keep part 2 in every now and again when you think extra context would be important to your listeners, I think that’s a good idea!

WarioTush

I’d say yes. Some hot topics come up in your interview, and you (understandably, this isn’t a criticism) don’t push back on some stuff that you give your own thoughts on and provide some more context to in the patreon section. I’m not sure that this episode on particular truly feels like an episode of Post Games without that segment. I say include it.

Juliamka

Agreed! I pay to support independent content, not to restrict access. This was a great conversation to share more broadly.

Goositrous

No joke I had considered making a comment to this effect, I feel like the post interview commentary is pretty integral to this being a complete and satisfying episode.

Dave

Go for it! You do such amazing work, it’s a shame to reserve any of it. I’m happy to support you, not for the bonus content, but because of your character and work ethic. The fact the you feel this strongly about your message shows that you have something to say that’s worth hearing. Keep up the great work, we all really enjoy your show.

Casual Flying

The fact this was unanimously voted yes just validates this as the best community.

Dumptruck

100% I'm on team "I pay for the patreon so you keep making content like this in general more than I do for bonus content."

Marty Day

With the context of this being an elaboration and response to the rest of the show, I think it’s necessary, so do it up!

Jesse Koechling

I would say just go ahead and include it whenever you feel the bonus content seems integral or important to share for the wider audience. I'm generally on patreon to support people and not really just to get extra stuff

Dumptruck

Also lol @ 61 of 61 voting yes. Post Games crew ftw

Kormakur Gardarsson

Anything that helps get the word out about this incredible show of yours, Chris, is worth it.

Jason Mariotis

Just wanted to echo the opinion expressed here: I’m always in favour of sharing— I’ll pay to support the pod with or without extras. But, I appreciate the gesture ☺️

ernest leitch

if YOU think it should be included for free that's the right call.

Avery Jerauld

The extra content is a nice incentive for people to support, but I pay because I want to support the high quality content. You can put all the extras in the free feed and you’ll still get my money

Noah Arroyo

Man there is something profound in this poll and the near unanimous "yes." Saying this as a media professional. Seconding the sentiment that if you feel inclined to make it available, I FULLY support it.

Robert Secundus

I logged on to patreon to suggest this, and was happy to see it was already a poll. i think it was an excellent episode, but it's also the first time in the history of the podcast that I left thinking "wow, that patreon bonus actually was necessary for the baseline episode." Given how much of the guy's responses were some kind of corporate-speak (and again, that's not a knock against you as an interviewer-- it was an excellent episode regardless of his whole media-trained schtick), that contextualization really is vital, particularly for any younger/ more naive members of your listening audience who might just buy some of his responses without stopping to think about them.

Daniel Papajohn

I would probably keep paying for patreon just to get add free, personally.

Charlie

Of course.

snorehorse

Yeah a huge part of what makes Post Games special is your insight and opinion on the topics you cover so it makes sense that everyone has access to that for this interview!

NotJack

Yes, I think this section added some valuable context. Especially when speaking on unionisation “the esa is ultimately a collaboration between a bunch of gaming companies…” “these companies use the ESA to protect their interests”. I think it’s easy to paint the picture of ESA being the “good guys” as they have protected the industry from government regulation and I thought Stanley did a great job painting a picture of the history of the ESA (Of course they are extremely important and do so much for the industry). But it definitely felt like this part of the episode was in conversation with some earlier episodes, like your interview with Sarah Elmaleh from SAG-AFTRA. Without your thoughts in the Patreon section I don’t think I would have thought about this or connected the dots in my head.

Max Lupo

Yes! I'm so glad that this topic came up! As a patron supporter I feel even better that my support means that everyone gets the same content for free! I know the scope of the poll is a bit more narrow, but I would generally support making all of the patreon content part of the main feed.
