Spoiler Warning: Before you listen to this episode, play Titanium Court. The game's currently available on Steam for PC/Mac. Trust me: you don't want to click play on this episode until you've rolled credits. You'll be glad you waited.

Welcome to the latest Games Club, a fledgling series in which I interview game makers about the entirety of their games, from the tutorial to the closing credits. Today, I’m talking with AP Thomson about their IGF Grand Prize-winning genre-hybrid, Titanium Court.

We discuss an early version of the game that had multiple courts to visit, the inspirations, including the obvious and not-so-obvious connections to Shakespeare, the music numbers, and the “right” versus “wrong” endings.

I have to play a 22-hour game to listen to this podcast? (tbf: According to one response on How Long To Beat? Man dude... I'm a Dad and a full-time employee living under Capitalism.

I am trying to enjoy this game. It’s mechanically sound, but everything about it is kinda annoying the shit out of me. 😞

This is the episode that made me pay the $5. This game was so special and I felt starved for discourse and insight after finishing the game. So maybe I'm still under the curse. Great interview!

So I've been playing Titanium Court in the evenings and after about 8 hours collected the fourth key I needed to open the gate. The ending was, I'm assuming intentionally, anticlimactic. Listening to this podcast, I realised I've missed so much and maybe didn't get the experience AP was aiming for, which is a shame. I totally get the artistic decisions, and I applaud them for committing to them to make what they wanted to make, but as a dad of two with a full time job who enjoys games as a leisure activity, the thought of repeating those 8 or so hours and then investing more doesn't feel great. I'll maybe come back in a few years, but it's a bit of a feel bad... and maybe that's the point? I dunno man, all I know is I'm grateful to you Chris and to AP for making me feel these feelings. I've put more thought into how I spend my limited time because of it... and maybe that's the point?
