What in the Solar hell is going on? Well Lance has a new roommate. Oh...so does Andy. But those aren't the biggest stories in this episode.

Grab your cuppa and enjoy!

Cheers, mates!

The bird at the end is a magpie, a member of the crow family, and is considered to be quite intelligent. They are said to have a fondness for picking up shiny objects, which is why it picked up the coins. In English folklore they are viewed as portents of good luck or bad luck, depending on how many you can see. The song at the end is called 'One For Sorrow', and is an old nursery rhyme about magpies.

This is *very* MR James . . . finding a whistle and blowing it . . . summoning ghosts . . . I believe the hawker's whistle is actually a find Mackenzie Crook made when he was metal detecting on set during the first two series, so he wrote it's discover into the third. The Magpie song is performed by the wonderful Northumberland female group called "The Unthanks". They are incredible folk performers and if the music here has touched you I can really recommend their albums . . . full of beautiful songs about ritual and tradition and landscapes. We have a rhyme here in the UK about Magpies and what seeing them (and the numbers you can see) might mean. The song is based on it; "One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret never to be told. Eight for a wish, Nine for a kiss, Ten a surprise you should be careful not to miss, Eleven for health, Twelve for wealth, Thirteen beware it's the devil himself" I have a solo Magpie who visits my bird feeder. He's very welcome of course . . . but him being on his own does make me a bit nervous . . . Funny how these old things take hold in the mind, even in today's world. Remember what happened here Greg and Lisa . . . no spoilers . . . but keep it in mind.

Philip Jones

you say you must remember all this, but you seem to have forgotten all about Toni who was a major character in Series 2. Toni was the lady that fixed Lance's car t work.

I relate to Lance in this a bit. My stepdaughter is 27 and she recently moved back in with us. She lived with us for years before and she hasn’t changed. I have got to pick my battles 🥴. Instead of grating cheese on a plate she does it on a paper towel and throws the paper towel away. That is so annoying 😩🤣. Anyway rant over . This show is delightful. Magpies are very common here and very noisy at times.

Herl-Ovadeck as a name for a sea sickness tablet is a hilarious wee detail. If it's supposed to be hyoscine hydrobromide, some folk do abuse that medication and it will cause hallucinations. As stupid as it makes me sound, it didn't dawn on me that yous might not have seen magpies! You do get them in Spain but from what I've read they're not that common, they're everywhere in the UK. Frequently I'll be sitting here watching your videos and there's one or two right behind me on my balcony... yep looked out the window and there's two wandering about ma street right now haha. They're corvids like crows, ravens, rooks (aaaand it's just dawned on me you probably haven't seen a rook before lol https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/rook ) so they're pretty damn smart. When it's breeding season the females beg for food the same way the infants do, it's funny to watch them. The ending is brilliant, I'm glad I know what's coming next cause I'm sure you two are impatient as hell to see what happens!

Where I am spliff and joint are interchangeable tbf

Neil Tristram

Weed is mostly called weed but as with everything we have loads of slang terms for it, A spliff is just a joint

EuanTyumi

Oh and the moist cracks, deep penetration etc bit was very amusing in light of the discussion in today's Peep Show reaction lmao

Love the flashbacks in this series. Makes it so much more real. You need that imagination to be an archaeologist.. 🙏

Joanna

However you got the title it's a very appropriate one for today, given the current heatwave here!

Actually the special only aired 3 weeks after series 2 finished. It wasn't as long as the time had moved on in the show. Sophie just disappeared with no mention which was odd. One of my only issues with the show is this.

Lee Dellbridge

Toni only appeared in the special. So no, she was not.

The coins being in a straight line was a joke. every two things are in s straight line in relation to each other. Hugh was talking about a different find trying to call it a hoard when it was only 2 coins. Hughs find has nothing to do with the whistle or what happens moving forward. It was just a one off joke.

Lee Dellbridge

Hugh was talking about different coins, not gold ones. But that would be possibly why his were in a straight line. That song at the end always gives me chills.

Joanna

I love when they show the echoes of history. I've been very lucky to have worked in some amazing old sites and I did feel moments like that amongst the every day stuff. A long time ago I worked at Stonehenge and sometimes, at the end of the day, I'd be stood in the middle of the circle alone, and it honestly felt like there were echoes of the past around me. I can't really describe it! I could easily be wrong but I think it was a burial at the end. Given the size of the hole it was probably a cremation along with grave goods as there was more than just the pot of coins there.

Karlitos

Aperol Spritz haha, not Aerosol. Though that would be a nice way of dispensing it on a hot day 😂 With regards to Hugh's coins being in a straight line, that was just a joke because there was only 2 of them. If you have 2 of anything and put them anywhere, it's a straight line between them because there's only 2.

Dryfesands

That's my read too. So Lisa was right with her first instinct, a burial *with* coins.

Greg and Lisa React_Official

So a Rook is a small Crow? That's what it looks like. I love crows. Some people are scared of them but I think they are cool. How cool to have those birds, the Magpies, all over the place. They are gorgeous. LOL..on your last comment 🤭 Lisa

Greg and Lisa React_Official

Oh REALLY!?! I'll watch it again and see if I can see signs of a burial! She did look sad and It makes more sense as to why they were buying their money. ~ Lisa

EuanTyumi

Rooks are almost the same size as crows, they're both a good bit bigger than magpies and jackdaws ( another very common corvidae here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_jackdaw ). I'll post a coupla pictures in chat. I see rooks out my window on a semi-regular basis, which my brother is jealous of as him and my folks don't get them in their garden despite only living a 10 min walk away. I live by the busiest main road in my town too, not like I'm rural.

EuanTyumi

There's a couple of Italians on YT that I follow and they still love it, so I think that officially means its not too touristy... or somethin 🤣

Philip Jones

sorry, yes, I forgot she was only in one special, I was miss remembering.

emu cat

Magpies are of course baby penguins that make their way south as orcas.

Wend

I joined your Patreon channel especially to see your reaction to this episode - I couldn't wait for it to come on YouTube! Your reactions are always great. :)

Greg and Lisa React_Official

We are glad you couldn’t wait! 🤣 Loved this episode so much and we have a little anxiety for the final episode. Watching it tomorrow. Posting next week! Welcome Legend Wend! Greg

Magpies are also know for their attraction to shiny things - they are known to 'steal' small shiny things and take them to their nests.
