Just to add to the comments about Jon Snow and Arya in Martins original outline. It wasn’t JUST an incestuous romance between Jon and Arya. It was gonna be a three way romance/relationship/situationship between Jon Snow, Arya and Tyrion LOL. I’ve always wondered if some of those ideas snuck their way into the published books. If anyone doesn’t know, you can go to Westeros.org and read thousands of published letters/forum posts and interviews by GRRM between 1993 and the present. Interesting stuff hidden in there.

Joey Largehands

Glad that you're consistently uploading these

Joey Largehands

Yep, many of the original ideas have made their way into the story, just in completely different ways. We still see the close bond shared between Jon & Arya, just not romantically.

bard

the false brother is Jamie since he was in the kingsguard but betrayed them

Licha Reacts!

I just want to know what GRRM is on .... 😂😂

Joey Largehands

You have to remember Cat is fully unaware of how far gone Lysa is at this point. There's also no reason Cat would think Lysa would suspect Tyrion to be the one behind Jon Arryn's death. Tyrion was brought to answer for Bran. From Cat's perspective, she would not have believed Tyrion was even in King's Landing for Jon's poisoning. From Lysa's perspective, we know SHE knows who poisoned Jon lol

So, we don't have the end of the books, but you're right that there will be plot twists on plot twists. Regarding Jon specifically, his story is set up a certain way, and because the show changed a lot of the story, it's colored the readership to where his story is headed. All I'll say re: my opinion is Jon's parentage will certainly mean something to the story, but nowhere near how it played out in the show. Once you get close to finishing book 5, It'll be worth revisiting this. Re: Arya, I'll let you keep cooking lol P.S. as a book reader and deeply entrenched in the book fandom, it's funny seeing you engage with your theories and me thinking "oh you sweet summer child" all over again.

"That's a Targaryen thing" - Jaime & Cersei say hello

Brandon Morris

I really really miss the theory crafting days ASOIAF around the time that GOT started and made it massive. I used to spend hours and hours reading reddit threads or watching youtube theories. Some of my favorite times with reading/tv.

Joey Largehands

Jaime is their false brother. He killed the king he was sworn to protect.

Joey Largehands

He remembers their names, all of his companions. Their images/likeness is what Ned cannot see. Keep in mind he's in a fever dream. Could the distinctions in his memory be symbolic? P.S. one of his companions is Jory's father. Another, as you know from the show, is Jojen & Meera's father. P.S. P.S. ^just seen you comment on this lol

Joey Largehands

These reactions should be sponsored by Better Health. Also, if you care for it, we can suggest theory videos for you to react to when you finish the books. Plenty good videos to satisfy your insanity. We've all been there.

Joey Largehands

Without adding to your thought, there are theories that exist that present the idea that Arthur Dayne may still be alive. Very perceptive to pick up on that.

Joey Largehands

Cersei does not have a point. She mentions Targaryens to get under Robert's skin. Think about how much Robert hates Targaryens. Cersei knew exactly what she was doing when she said that. Not condoning the slap.

Joey Largehands

That Tysha story. The moment you zoomed in on your reaction on the edit, I knew exactly why. Ya! It's way worse in the books. Tywin is sadistic.

Joey Largehands

Robert's grandmother was a Targaryen princess. Rhaegar/Viserys/Dany were his cousins. They share a great-grandfather. If you want an example of self-loathing, look no further than Robert.

Joey Largehands

Re: Loras and Ned. Remember Renly's proposal to Ned re: Margaery. Loras is trying to enter Ned's good graces to strengthen the idea in Ned's mind about the Tyrells replacing the Lannisters as Robert's in-laws.

Joey Largehands

Licha, I think the one drawback to the show being so recent in memory is judging the actions as you read them based on the outcomes you already know. There's no getting away from that so it is what it is, but there will be a point where that becomes an issue. Re: the Mountain & the Riverlands, it's quite clear to the lords who the perpetrator is and if they were to kill the Mountain they'd have had proof enough. There are some things that the book will answer in due time. "The Hand speaks with the king's voice." If Ned's order was successful, then any retaliation from Tywin would be in direct opposition to the crown. Tywin's hand isn't as strong as it appears except for ONE thing: Both the Starks AND Lannisters are able to get away with so much is directly because Robert is terrible, weak & feckless when it comes to ruling. That's two of his warden's factions doing things out of hand with no regard for the King's Justice. Tywin knows this. You can see why Varys may actually be in favor of the Baratheon-Tyrell alliance, given his want for stability. Ned traveling South immediately put him in a losing situation and the only leverage he really had was his relationship with Robert. We see what Ned thinks of the current state of his old friend.

William Lenzi

You are doing a wonderful job with the book vlogs, you have much better reading comprehension skills than me 😅

Joey Largehands

In spit of some of my comments, ya! It's impressive! You can tell she's read quite a lot. It actually makes these reactions fun to watch!

JMP

I do believe Licha has a bit of bias against Cat so she struggles seeing her thought process. But then again the bias does help when she added that bit of nuance to the Mya chapter last week even though she only focused on that side of Cat.

JMP

19:00 wow your very perceptive and your picking up a lot of stuff

Joey Largehands

Yep! Similar with Ned tbh. I made the point in another comment that her knowing the show outcomes (and her love for schemes) blinds her to the situation at hand. It's hard to get away from that and it's not the biggest deal in AGOT. But by ACOK, that'll become more of a drawback. But she's also good at picking up subtle things (and being generally pervasive) so I'm hoping her reading experience eventually overrides the show influence. Given her biases, there are certain points in the story where I really look forward to her reactions. We'll see then just how strong those biases are.

My_Cousin_Mose

I never knew about George originally planning on Arya/Jon having a relationship. That definitely lends credit to your theory.

My_Cousin_Mose

Its crazy the amount of foreshadowing there is! You don't even know lol.

Joey Largehands

You should read up on his original outline from the early 90's. He's said over the years that the fate of his 5 man characters have more or less remained the same. The crazy thing is as much as the journey has changed for each main character, a lot of the outline is actually still in tact.

slnzulas

Lysa wasn't always unstable like we see her in the present. Her marriage and what she has gone through since then is the reason she is the way she is now and Cat hasn't seen her sister in years so she didn't have a reason to think Lysa would act this unreasonable. Cat was really close with both Lysa and Littlefinger growing up and she really has no way of knowing how much they have changed.

Vishnu Vatheriparambil Mohandas

Gerold Hightower saying that Aerys would have still be sitting the throne and their false brother would be burning in seven hells.. he was referring to Jaime as their false brother because he killed the king they vowed to protect.

Vishnu Vatheriparambil Mohandas

I think Arya is Ned and Cat's kid. Reason 1: Cat admitted that she's her kid. Reason 2: Arya is constantly described as a typical Northerner typical Stark look. So she is a Stark for sure.

Vishnu Vatheriparambil Mohandas

Theory wall is a good idea. If it is possible for you you can have a theory board with all your theories

Marc van de Klashorst

I think the broad outline of three threats for Westeros (civil war, dragons, and the Others) is still very much intact. And it's very notable that Daenerys was supposed to be a threat to Westeros in the second (LOL) book, but is still supposed to make it to the end of the story. The more detailed outline in the letter is an amusing read, but not all that relevant anymore.

Marc van de Klashorst

"In the dream they were only shadows, grey wraiths on horses made of mist". Typical George, using language to deliberately make you connect this scene to the Others in the prologue.

Tylor

Theory wall is going to be a must. The books hit a point where they go awol compared to the show and it had me literally pacing at home like talking to myself piecing things together lmao

Tylor

It is known (I’m just copying the Dothraki lol)

Tylor

I’ve never understood Jon’s decision to go to the wall. Like I know that he wanted a purpose and his uncle was there but it was soooo clear he wanted to be an adventurer or traveling knight. He would’ve been sooo much better at that and happier imo

Joey Largehands

It really does help having someone to discuss this with. I hope Licha actually engages the viewers/ comments. It does make the entire executive m experience exponentially more fulfilling. But I understand the fear of spoilers.

Joey Largehands

Adding: I read after watching the show, and my goodness does this story (multiple plots + characters) go in a much different direction.

Joey Largehands

Interesting that they were marching towards Jon Snow

Deandre r Swift

Are Jamie and Cersei also targaryens because they engage in incest as well?

Dae

Licha ahh theory: wow it’s written that Ned took a piss whilst wearing blue shoes, it has to be written for a reason.. blue like the sea? The sea is also where Dany wants to cross.. ya’ll.. so does that mean Ned and Dany are siblings?

Magnus

I guess something you have to be mindful of when thinking about George's intent (referring to theories and plot twists within plot twists), is that thinks like Jon's heritage, which seems obvious to you since you know it from the show, is not actually especially obvious in the books. Many people read through all 5 books and never catch on to it. So then it's wise to consider if what you theorize is laying groundwork for "there is something more here than just that Jon is a secret Targ", is actually just George dropping more hints that there is something off about Jon's heritage. For The Arya/Jon connection, I consider it to be (since you've finished AGOT) about the fact that Arya is often compared to Lyanna. So by highlighting how much Arya and Jon look alike George is indirectly pointing out that Jon looks a lot like Lyanna. We've gotten so used to it now, but Jon being a Targaryen is an insane plot twist within a plot twist within a plot twist. I mean you have layer 1 of Ashara Dayne isn't Jon's mom. Then you have layer 2 of wow Ned is not Jon's father, THEN you have layer 3 of holy shit he is Lyanna's child, THEN you have layer 4 of Jon being a Targaryen, THEN you have layer 5 of Jon being potentially tied to prophecies.

BloodyBen

Arya can't possibly be Lyanna's, the timeline makes zero sense and Lyanna absolutely didn't secretly not die, she definitely died and that prevents her from having Arya. Ashara? possible, who knows if Ashara was secretly alive, I just think it takes away from her character, I think Arya being Ned and Cats makes the most sense for the story and her character. Arya is the middle child, it's so random that Ned and Cat would have two children, randomly get Arya from elsewhere and then have another 2 kids. I really don't think the intention is for us to question Arya's heritage

BloodyBen

King Maegor the Cruel was killed on/by the Iron Throne

BloodyBen

Rhaenys Targaryen from HOTD is the daughter of a Targaryen man and Baratheon woman. In the books she actually has black hair, because the seed is strong

Sara

Awww! Everybody give her a break, ok? We've all had our own personal tinfoil theories. George's writing makes almost everything feel portentous. It's his fault that Licha is neck deep in parentage theories in book one. Let's just tell her about Tyrek and welcome her to the club
