Viserys' issue with Rhaenyra marrying Aegon wasn't that they were siblings. It was that Rhaenyra was a teenager and Aegon was barely 2yo.

Dresdon

I hated that they had laenor live and sneak away. Makes no sense that he would leave his family that he loves, his dragon and his titles..including being KING...in the books he actually gets assassinated. Just another way theyre sugar coating everything the blacks do. Imagine if Rhanerya left with Criston cole to the east lol

Ambrosio Sanchez

you're retelling of what happened post the kids fighting is crazy. Alicent nor her kids got in any trouble. Viserys literally just asked where they heard that from. Aegon even said we just know and he wasn't even scolded. Alicent cut the heir to the throne with a knife and no one ever said a word to her much less actually get in trouble.

Joey Largehands

22:10 Yeah HUGE DISAGREE on this... Alicent doing what women always do (and have to suffer) does not change anything for women, it just maintains the status quo. - Licha, ask yourself this, isn't Alicent doing more harm to women by perpetrating a woman who goes "out of line" as unworthy? - Then this... when men have bastards, carry on however they'd like, and display signs of 'unworthiness', why aren't their inheritance ever questioned or challenged? The status quo doesn't make it right. If Rhaenyra was a man and did everything she was doing, no one would question her or seek to replace her out of hand. THAT's the point. You're falling into the system of oppression built: Do as you're told because that's how your kind gets by. P.S. this is NOT a criticism of Alicent. In-world we 100% get where she's coming from, and there's nothing inherently wrong or bad in being the dutiful mother/wife. But that is just one type of woman, and there's comfort in being "one of the obedient ones". Next epsiode's convo between Rhaenys & Alicent drives this point home perfectly. P.S. P.S. Now, quick look back to GOT, do you think it's a coincidence that the key to the Long Night, the person that brought back dragons, happened to be a girl? And the person to help her in the Long Night happens to be a bastard? Two people who are typically overlooked by Westerosi "tradition"? Maybe George is trying to make a point here.

Joey Largehands

Agree with this somewhat. But worse, Laenor's death has nothing to do with the Blacks, so this change doesn't actually sugarcoat anything. It's just a pointless change.

Flexorcist

Viserys death passage in the book - Then Viserys of House Targaryen, the First of His Name, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm, closed his eyes and went to sleep. He never woke. He was fifty-two years old, and had reigned over most of Westeros for twenty-six years. Then the storm broke, and the dragons danced." Still bring chills how GRRM wrote it

Joey Largehands

I'll add here, who's making Alicent seem like she's crazy? No one in the show has looked at her weird OR even alluded to that. Think you're getting a little defensive of her. Btw given her characterization, you get exactly where she's coming from, and I think you connect with her strongly for that reason. The story also shows how much her treatment by her father has influenced her worldview. That's not a positive thing given how Otto used her as a pawn (and weaponized her femininity/womanliness) when she was a girl. Tywin used his children too and how did that work out for him & them? A lot of resentment & toxicity. Rhaenyra has had more autonomy and I think that's where a lot of people judge her more harshly. But that's not her fault. Does that mean she's been perfect? Far, far from it. She's shown many examples of poor judgment. But goes back to my main point: so what? Answer: sexism / misogyny. We talk a lot about in-world tradition. Well in-world the lords of the realm swore oaths to Rhaenyra as Viserys' heir. Case closed, right? Riiiight...?

Henry Parker

Bruh Viserys accidentally calls Rhaenyra his only child when she's alone with him, I missed that detail before

joe gibson

@1:24:49 "he kinda is a mini daemon" . move the d from the front of daemon's name to the end...

Joey Largehands

Paddy Considine deserved an Emmy for this performance btw

Mari

to be fair abt the velaryon kids and their hair, the whole thing abt the knowing abt jofferey and his sibling is that the Baratheon seed is strong that means in a lot of families they do have an overall look but it is also common to maybe look like the mother who is from another house but for the baratheon they have strong traits to where every baratheon canonically has black hair. the princess rhaenys is supposed to have baratheon hair at least in her youth. rhaenrya claims that their dark hair come from her

Ambrosio Sanchez

notice how the only ones pushing this bastard thing are ppl who are acting in extreme self-interest (hightowers & vaemond)? cause It doesn't matter. corlys and rhaenys know they are bastards and they are gonna marry their kids to them. lady olenna knew tommen was a bastard and she married margaery to him. it doesn't matter

Joseph LeRoy

I can go both ways on the succession for Driftmark. Luke isn't blood but he was chosen by Laenor as a son and by Corlys, who is the lord and leader of house Velaryon, as a grandson. Both know he isn't blood, and they don't care. He has no experience, but he can learn a great deal and get help from Vaemond if he just honors the choice of his brother and lord. Add the marriage and there will still be Velaryon blood ruling Driftmark. As for the iron throne, technically the bloodline is still pure. The rightful heir is Rhaenyra Targaryen who is a trueborn child from the king and his chosen heir. So, when he dies it truly doesn't matter that he has other children. It will only matter after Rhaenyra dies. Her first 3 kids are named Velaryon but will have to change it to Targaryen when they ascend. So, they will have her blood and her name. Plus, she will have 3 full blood trueborn Targaryen kids with Daemon. Even if it's right or wrong the king willed it so anything anybody does to prevent it is treason and death. If Alicent really believes that Viserys said he wants Aegon to be king, she truly is an idiot. First off, the man is damn near dead. Second, he is constantly high on milk of the poppy and has a clouded mind. Anybody with common sense would know that the mumbling of that man would be 95% nonsense. Third, he said stuff like "do you remember" and "earlier" so if she didn't talk to him earlier the entire conversation is irrelevant and Alicent would know that. Forth, he has told the entire realm that Rhaenyra is heir, threatened to cut out tongues, etc. for 20 years. He never mentioned any of his other kids in connection to the throne. So, in my opinion any death and violence that comes after will be on Alicent and her team.

Flexorcist

I wonder if Viserys on that table chose his rotten side be at Alicent’s side and the good side to his “only child”😅

Zach VanDyke

i feel like aegon is more than a douchebag playboy he’s literally out here raping women. i don’t think theon even did that.

Joey Largehands

It also isn't some in-world science. It was simply the conclusion of two men (Jon Arryn & Ned Stark), and while they seem to be correct, that 'research' is simply looking at a book with a long list of known lineages. That's hardly proof in our modern world but it suffices for the story.

Joey Largehands

Btw that's how sharp Valyrian steel is lol...that scene never ceases to entertain

Vishnu Vatheriparambil Mohandas

This gave me chills when I read the book. And every time I re-read the book. Such a fantastic line. Same way with the last line of A Game of Thrones. "As Daenerys Targaryen rose to her feet, her black hissed, pale smoke venting from its mouth and nostrils. The other two pulled away from her breasts and added their voices to the call, translucent wings unfolding and stirring the air, and for the first time in hundreds of years, the night came alive with the music of dragons." Every time chills

Flexorcist

Man…brings back the memories when you read it the first time huh? Amazing writing

Mari

i agree that rhaenyra shouldve gone back to kings landing but then u asked what was viserys thinking when daemon and rhaenyra got married and i remembered that why they stayed at dragonstone 😭😭

Michael

this 'feels bad' for alicent shits gotta go asap lol. it was never about her. im sorry but every scene 'but alicent' like nah. relating Viserys to the throne with alicent. its way too much

Burak Yağız

Licha i know you like Alicent but come on like your viewpoint is becoming too biased lol 😄

Burak Yağız

If Alicent truly did care about Viserys she would have respected his chosen heir but of course not

Burak Yağız

Imo Alicent didnt misunderstand what Viserys was saying she just heard what she wants to hear if she isn’t stupid (clearly not) she shouldn’t have taken those so serious he is just mumbling the man is clearly not well

ramon carter

she is a team green stan even though Allicents kids are trash except Heleana the Queen didn't raise her sons right Rhaenyra atleast is the better mother

Zach VanDyke

i actually fw green team. i like allicent a lot and Aemond is cool. Aegon is just a weirdo tho.

ramon carter

right The kings wishes and word is final

ramon carter

I wonder how she will feel about the greens after the next 2 episodes

Starspire Station

I'm seeing so many comments on here saying "Alicha, you're too biased!", "Why do you support Alicent?", "Alicent's kids are trash!" and along those lines. Guys… please just let someone experience the show and develop their own opinions. There's nothing wrong with that, and despite what YOU think, Licha's viewing the show for the first time and should be able to think her own thoughts without being criticized. This is a REACTION. There are plenty of people out there who have seen House of the Dragon and find themselves with completely different thoughts and feelings. Personally, I find that Licha Reacts is a breath of fresh air compared to the many character stans out there. She's still forming opinions, and while you might've formed yours by now, should your time watching HotD determine how others watch the show? Please, just let Alicha watch the series on her own, free of influence! No need to spam the comments with constant "But wait, you're wrong!", etc. A first time viewer of this show is going to have their own opinions.

Kenny

Joffrey was already king when that happened. A bit different I think, plus stannis was already married and they wanted a direct line to the throne so really no choice

Starspire Station

I get where you're coming from, but Licha is still forming her thoughts on HotD as she watches, and it's very refreshing to see a reactor engage with the nuances of the series as a whole instead of just picking a "team" and checking out. Dismissing Alicent's importance by saying the story was never about her is understandable: the story isn't about ANYONE; it's about the cost of war and the corrupting nature of power… but I don't fault Licha for siding with Alicent, as she sees the woman who spent her formative years sacrificing her youth and autonomy to keep the Seven Kingdoms functional.

Mari

it doesnt have anything to do with blacks its mostly likely just a lovers quarrel but in the books they do suspect Daemon of hiring Qarl to kill him.

Mari

yes just like bran and rickon would get nothing if robb was to rule as king and have children of his own. the thing abt GOT is we dont see a lot of families that isnt the main family except for the lannisters who has uncles, great uncles and cousins all throughout the family but they are all knights in service to house lannister. aemond and aegon would still be prince but they would just be princes in service to house targaryen.

Dae

If it hasn’t changed already then it won’t change now

Dae

Completely optional btw

Tronik485

It's amazing how unwilling people are to accept opinions that differ from their own. They're even willing to pay to defend fictional characters. I'm definitely not a fan of Alicent, but damn it, if a person watches the show closely and delves into the characters' personalities, that makes them a GOOD viewer. I remember how in the first season people loved Rhaenyra so much for no reason that they turned a blind eye to all her stupid and selfish actions, but they called Aegon “the second Joffrey” and worse. Then, in the second season, many of them had to take back their words, but damn it, Licha IMMEDIATELY realized that Aegon was much more like a young Theon, she didn't need obvious explanations like all those Rei-Rei fanatics. This is called paying attention to the characters and their point of view. Thank you for your videos, you're amazing.

SPACEZFAP

are you're just too biased for the oppostition?

SPACEZFAP

don't take that as canon, Aegon raping servant girls not only doesn't add anything to his character in the long run but it wasn't even in the original source material

Michael

ayo. its really not that deep. you dont need to type a paragraph to try to understand character developments. rhae was 16 in the first 5 episodes being young and doing dumb shit, and now she is not. but to portray alicent as like the guided light is just silly at this point. it is not about her.

Michael

im sorry but there comes a time to actually dismiss the alicent sorrow lol. she never was the focal point

Tronik485

I don't want to argue about this. Alicent is clearly not a character I'm going to defend, because I'm Team Green and, you know, season two. But I completely agree with Licha's view at the moment, and I felt exactly the same emotions while watching. What I wanted to say here is that people are too biased and ready to tear each other apart, without noticing the problems with their own favourites. Licha is being criticised not because of ‘fairness,’ but because she doesn't bow down to Rei-Rei. I've seen this too many times with a bunch of other reactors. It's just a stupid and rude trend

Michael

bro u really compared aegon to rhae. that is just beyond narrow thinking. in this certain precedent 1x8-9. like what?

Tronik485

I don't understand your question. Why shouldn't I compare them, and how does that relate to my comment?

Starspire Station

I agree wholeheartedly! People need to let first time viewers actually watch the show free of influence. Licha has her opinions surrounding Alicent, Rhaenyra, etc. At this point in the series, Alicent is probably the most sympathetic character: she sacrificed so much of her childhood "imprisoned in a castle and made to squeeze out heirs" as Rhaenyra said earlier on in Season 1. Licha can also see how spoiled Rhaenyra can be from time to time, and how much favoritism she gets from Viserys, while he also neglects his other children. I'm so glad there's a reactor out there who can watch House of the Dragon and actually have a strong opinion, not just the "stan" mentality surrounding certain characters. Licha has said she's steering clear of the comments solely for the fact that people have been trying to sway her opinion.

Burak Yağız

At this point in the story how can you be on the green side later events of course can change your opinion but now no

Joey Largehands

On the one hand, I agree. On the other hand, isn't that what comment sections are for? As long as it's being respectful. I think it's equally damning to treat disagreements as inherently disrespectful. That's another form of censorship. I also think Licha is smart enough to know the difference. It's all (or at least, mostly) love.

Nick Lackie

She’s not a judge hearing a case in court who swore an oath to remain impartial. Why can’t she have an opinion? It’s just a tv show.

IQLou

You have a bias towards Alicent but thats ok. Its your first time watching. People need to chill

IQLou

Imagine if the King just showed half the love and attention he showed towards Rhaenyra towards his own sons smh.. Saying "my only child" to her is CRAZY

IQLou

I still f- with you though, King Viserys. RIP :(

Michael

‘ I'm so glad there's a reactor out there who can watch House of the Dragon and actually have a strong opinion’ aka just appreciate hardship for alicent. This ‘extraneous’ thought doesn’t need to ‘understand’ the bigger picture, the point is null. Most people acknowledge the hardship, and then also move on from that because it’s like bro, you’re older and ur the queen. U can say no.

Michael

But hey, I guess this is what the show was striving for. Alicent and Rhaenyra

Burak Yağız

You can love and defend a character but love her as herself dont make excuses for that character just embrace the character and their flaws

IQLou

Who cares? The viewer decides who their focal point is. No one should feel forced to watch a certain way

IQLou

If they answered wrong, it could have been bad, and Rhaenyra asked Aemond to be "sharply questioned." In this world, it's like torture, treason and slander are not taken lightly. It was escalated already, and also Alicent is Queen, her reputation suffered for that. Viserys let it go because he hates to hurt his kin (Aegon-son), for better or for worse, but Rhaenyra had full control. Viserys accepted her frame of the events, and Licha is not wrong for calling it out lol

Travis

Once Licha goes scrunchy face you know she is about to cry 🤣

Yari mandi

Comment section gotta chill a bit💀. I’m team black but it’s so nice to have a reactor who’s opinion differ from my own sometimes, since they can provide perspectives I wouldn’t previously have thought about. I can definitely see where Alicent is coming from and how she got to her breaking point, always getting the short end of the stick. But she lets that resentment take over sometimes and it hurts her more as we saw previously. Also R.i.p Viserys, until his death he tried to unite everyone 😔

Naut

R.I.P. King Viserys. Paddy Considine smashed it! 😎

chrisrumpy

On god, Theon is paying sex workers for coochie, Aegon is raping and stealing coochie. Entirely different things. Aegons gross asf.

DJanz

THIS^ Couldn't have said it better. I wish I could like comments more than once

Mari

what source material? the history books t where the maestars dont know every family affair something that alicients response was to cover it up. the source material specifically for hotd is way too open for yall to act like its not possible for the shit to happen the source material for aegon says he had many bastards in his young age and like to fondle serving girls in reach

Mari

ultimately my issue is she was very much in the comments for GOT but now she isnt based off “bias” but there are ppl trying to fill her in on important info abt the blacks but she ignores it but seems to accept all the info related to the greens. i understand she wants to read the books but i think knowing context abt this show is different than knowing context for GOT. i think whoever her moderator is if she has one is biased towards the greens.

Zach VanDyke

wdym? i’m responding to her comments after watching aegon rape a girl lmao.

Starspire Station

@IQLou THIS. HotD is so different from GoT. In GoT, the people you want to root for are laid out for you (Ned, Jon, Daenerys, the Starks), but the Dance is a story that's (both marketed and written to be) a choice!

JB_Drummer

Paddy fuckin Considine
