now that u officially know that northern man arent knights just assume that most people that arent the Lords of their homes in the south is one. for instance in HOTD Otto is a knight by title but he is only a Lord due to his position as Hand.

Mari

idk how much i can do these i hate Tywin glaze so much 😭😭😭

Joey Largehands

Friendly reminder to leave the show to one side, especially re:future assumptions. A great example is roughly @ 6:00... Sansa being the one to tip Cersei doesn't necessarily change the scheme as you saw it in the show, but it changes A LOT else. And that's a minor change. There will be just as many minor changes with huge butterfly effects (or that change characterizations drastically), as well as much larger changes and these will begin to appear far more frequently, and sooner than you think. More generally to the reaction, yeah the story picks up rapidly towards the end of the book. It's just banger after banger after banger lol

Joey Largehands

I gotta say, as much as I petition to park the show to the side, GOT absolutely nailed Sansa's casting as well as Cersei's. Absolutely nailed them!

Joey Largehands

The show def has a lot do with this, but also Licha is enamored by schemers. I have questions and topics to share and discuss later on in her reading because I'd love to hear her thoughts when certain events take place.

William Lenzi

Your commentary is getting even better every vlog, keep it up :)

Joey Largehands

Licha casually glossing over Jon crossing an entire occupied long table to try and stab Alliser in the face because of an antagonizing joke lol... this is what makes book Jon interesting!

Adam Morgan

All the stuff about Baelish, Sansa and Jeyne makes me feel so unclean

Mari

yea charles dance was way too charming for tywin. i view tywin like tyrion where its like i respect his wits and schemes but overall he is just horrible dude so it doesnt rly matter

Joey Largehands

22:02 From now on we call it a Lichayard

Joey Largehands

There's another character (actually 2 that have made appearances in this batch of chapters) who she glazes that I look forward to having her analyze & reassess to see if she still holds the same opinion. But I won't say who.

Every Tywin glaze is rage baiting for me like yes he is a smart man but it's easy to achieve all these things when you don't abide by the rules. This is people saying Red Wedding was a smart move all over again 😭

There a quite a large amount of differences in the books from the show, and they only grow over time, but the primary one is the show just has way less characters and houses and plot lines. The show is very streamlined.

I'm still enjoying your Vlog, keep it up! :) Cool to see, that you're picking up on the symbolism and influence by the animals/gods. Hope everything goes smoothly moving for you guys.

Always liked the idea that Cersei is wearing red rubies after Robert dies to honour Rhaegar

I have never watched book vlogs before you started doing them, I must say that it's so entertaining. The books are so much better than the show, the details that are left out almost makes it a different story. The Sansa and Jayne Poole thing, Sansa being I feel like more analyzing in the books early on than the show shows. The best POV's so far to me are Cat and Ned, probably just because we get access to so many other characters through them. They are also the characters whose actions I didn't agree with in the show but to get to follow their journey and what's going on in their head just makes it an insanely good POV.

Random appearance of a bearded man at 30:25. I think he's drinking Shade of the Evening. Possible warlock?

6:00 The moment we have all been waiting for 😂

6:00 that is so real, I forgot they didn’t say it in the show. Sansa is such a stuck up 11 year old girl, and I feel like I haven’t read anything else (at least written by a man) that is so unafraid to portray a young girl as such, while not feeling like it’s just trashing women. Absolutely love her.

BloodyBen

Sansa running to Cersei to tell her of Neds plan is on Ned as much as it is on Sansa. Why on earth was Sansa allowed to roam about? When Ned had informed them he was getting them out the city he should've had guards posted on Arya and Sansa and their instructions would be to not let them go anywhere - literally just that and Sansa going to Cersei doesn't happen. I'm not saying Sansa is blameless but Ned can be really dumb sometimes

The book vlogs are amazing. Ned's mistake wasn't that he was honorable. I think people completely misread what happened to Ned. Ned's mistake was that he did not do his duty to the King, that is exactly what he knows and thinks for himself. Had he told Robert the truth as quickly as possible he would not have been in this situation. People misunderstand the concept of honorability when it comes to the Starks (of course a lot of this comes from the show), the Stark's greatest weapon is duty, but it is also their greatest challenge as well. As soon as Ned did not do his duty he fell into a trap. From Ned's perspective he likely thinks he is dead already, there would be no reason not to tell the truth at this point. But of course they end up threating him with the life of Sansa. Something the show did not explore at all is the incredible importance of oaths and duty, the middle ages basically only worked due the strong concepts and principals people associated with oaths, reputation and duty. GRRM is a student of history, he understands and explores these concepts very well in the books. Regarding the different paths of Sansa and Arya; Arya also has to blend in. She is blending in and surviving alongside the small folk. She is a little girl she cannot go around fighting with people directly. The problem with Sansa is that she was mostly raised by Catelyn, the Septa and the Faith Of The Seven, she was raised as a southern lady. Arya was raised more as a true Northerner. This makes Sansa more naive than Arya.

Regarding the gods (and I think specifically the Old Gods) working through the Stark children - I agree, and it's an element I was always upset with the show for not including more. In the show, it is mainly just Bran who has that touch of magic, and to some extent Jon after his resurrection. But in the books, all the Starks seem to have at least strong hints of magical or divine intervention. This has been said by other commentators, but it bears repeating that the showrunners seemed to be embarrassed by the story's magical elements and consistently shied away from all but the most blatant and unavoidable fantastical events from the source material. It's a real shame, because that shit is so rad in the books. Anyway, I think the Old Gods are certainly working through the Stark children to some extent, trying to reassert their influence over the world. The Stark bloodline is deeply tied to the Old Gods, the First Men, the Children of the Forest and all that ancient magic, so it would make sense for them to act as the agents of the Old Gods, especially now that the Targaryens have lost their dominion over Westeros.
