Walt and Hank are such interesting characters for similar reasons. They both care a lot about their family, they both have the capacity to be considerate and sweet and loving, but they both perform masculinity in different but equally toxic ways. I know a thousand guys like Hank. They talk a big game, they're performatively macho, and when they feel small they put others down to make themselves feel bigger. They're jerks who constantly have to measure dicks to feel secure but at the end of the day they don't truly mean to hurt people. Walt is a simmering pot. He's been pushing down his anger and pride and insecurities for so long that the way he lashes out is genuinely scary. He has a big heart, yes, but that's a dangerous man. I guess you have to be in this world.
