Love Star Wars more than anything but lord of the rings all the way

Its LOTR, easy

LOTR, any day Licha! You’re about to watch the greatest trilogy ever made, where the world-building is honestly deeper and denser than the ASOIAF universe. My suggestion: watch ONLY the extended editions. The theatrical cuts remove about 2 hours 5 minutes of content across the trilogy, and it’s not just a few scenes, it’s character arcs, lore, and payoff moments that make the story hit way harder.

Nick Lackie

LotR is an easy choice here, but I hope you get to Star Wars eventually too.

yemmlie

LOTR extended is like a rite of passage for all reactors who've somehow not seen it! I can't wait!

Clay F

Yesssss - LOTR Extended. Looking forward to your reaction to the 3 awesome movies.

Spencer Davis

I'm a big Lord of the Rings fan and I know that I'll be in the minority but as a first time watch definitely watch the theatrical editions, there's a lot of lore in the regular versions and specifically in the 3rd movie there's a plot point that gets spoiled by the extended version and it takes out suspense with the extra scenes. There are great extra scenes but also some that hurt the pacing and don't really add much to the experience. Enjoy a great trilogy. Hope you also watch Star Wars at some point too

Deke_HFX

Can we get a mod to deal with this guy? (this is a joke btw)

Deke_HFX

It will get back in a poll vs some stand alone films, I have no doubt

My_Cousin_Mose

Typically I would say the theatrical versions are good for the 1st time viewer but as Licha is such a huge fantasy fan I think she'll be fine with the slightly slower pacing in exchange for the extra lore. Either way im suupa excited!

IcySystem

Without knowing the result, there's no way this is even close.

Devry

I need Lotr, so I can watch it while I play dawnless days

Cyr Dub

LOTR Extended Edition is an absolute must, trust us !

Elliot Elliott

I could not possibly disagree with you more haha. There's just so, so, sooo much missing from the theatrical editions to the extent that it ruins certain characters and their arcs.

Spencer Davis

Hey fair enough like I said I knew most people would disagree, just out of curiosity which characters and their arcs are ruined in the theatrical cuts would you say?

Fyre SPell

It's Star Wars day (May the fourth be with you). I therefore HAVE to vote Star Wars.

My_Cousin_Mose

Its the 5th now so you can change it to LOTR.

Cole Troutman

Idc what wins cause both are my favorite BUT, when you watch Star Wars some day, I'd highly recommend watching them in chronological order. Start with the prequels made in the early 2000s, THEN watch the og trilogy. It really makes the whole thing such a better experience. Lets you forget you're watching a near 50 year old movie by the time you get to those, story has more layers, etc

Cole Troutman

also the theatrical LOTR are honestly better for first time viewing. Just flow better imo

Martin

I hope she watches them in release order. It is always recommended that you follow release order - no matter if its a book or movie. When you watch or read it a 2nd time it can make sense to do it chronological, but in my opinion it totally destroys the experience to do it as a first time viewer/reader.

Cole Troutman

It's a bit of a hot take of mine. I just recently came to this conclusion after watching other reactors. Ill be as vague as possible here, but I think of one scene early in ep4 where one old character is talking about another, and he says "and he was a good friend." That scene hits so much harder once you've watched the prequels. AND, it's important to note, Lucas himself has since stated that watching them chronologically is the intended order. I fully understand wanting to start with the ogs though
