Who else could know about Jon's parentage other than Ned? 🤔

Nomaan

It’s definitely not Lyanna in that vision as Robert had already killed Rhaegar by the time she gave birth. Rhaegar and Elia did have a baby called Aegon who was killed when Tywin sacked the city so the child isn’t Jon in that scene. He says there must be one more cos at that point he has 2 children already and thinks he needs a third child cos “the dragon has 3 heads”. This is not spoiling its just clearing up any confusion

FeralKitty

You got the vision with Rhaegar wrong. Daenerys says that the man in the vision doesn't look like her brother, but she means Viserys here. She never knew Rhaegar - he died at the Trident before she was born. And yes, it's Rhaegar and Elia Martell in that vision, not Lyanna. They had 2 children together (Rhaenys and then Aegon) who were killed alongside Elia during the sack of King's Landing. Rhaegar said that there must be one more, by which he meant that he must have one more child, because he believed that they were supposed to make up the three heads of the dragon. That was his interpretation of the prophecy. The fact that the show told us that Jon's real name is Aegon Targaryen doesn't mean that's the case in book canon. Also, the vision about the blue flower growing out of the wall of ice is one of the biggest clues about R+L=J (except Ned's thougths maybe), because Jon is currently growing up at the Wall and the blue winter roses were Lyanna's favorite flowers. Howland Reed (Jojen's and Meera's father) was with Ned at the Tower of Joy where they found Lyanna, and they were the only ones who survived the fight with the Kingsgurard there. So Howland is likely the only person alive who knows the truth about Jon.

Jaqen H'ghar has white and red hair in the books. I don't think that's a coincende, it's the same as the weirwood trees. Maybe Jaqen chose this appearance for Arya specifically?

Might as well link an Alt Shift X video that explains the visions in detail 😂

Book mark the house of the undying chapter and come back after you finish the rest of the books to see if you can make sense of it

Licha Reacts!

thank you! I didnt really put together that timeline so this is super helpful! Now I have more to think about haha

Licha Reacts!

DEF doing this, i felt like there was so much foreshadowing in that chapter that I wont understand till later

Licha Reacts!

hahah no no no i must figure this out myself! 😂 we'll have to circle back to the house of the undying chapter as i get further into the books!

Kemi Stanton

I think you're ABSOLUTELY right, the red and white hair is definitely intentional

This is SUCH a good batch of chapters!! My thoughts are all over the place so this week I'm gonna jot stuff down as I watch hahaha. You're SO RIGHT about Theon, the tragedy of his character is that Ned DID instill gentleness, honour, justice, all the Stark traits into him (as the Greyjoys all clock immediately). Unfortunately as a ward, Ned failed because he could not cement those traits with the most important thing - security. He couldn't encourage Theon, or give him approval or affection or any sense of belonging that would foster the self assurance he needed to BE his own man. He's so starved for approval, guidance, reassurance that he'll act against his own morals and ideals to get it. He's desperate for it, he NEEDS it or he's completely lost. Without that he just can't form a sturdy sense of self and that's so freaking sad. Man had no idea who he truly is, and then Ramsay comes along and forces an identity on him. This is one of my favourite Dany chapters, everything is riddles and trickery and cryptic foreshadowing. It's VERY FRUSTRATING to read this chapter and then go watch the show's adaptation of the house of the undying. Like you go girl give us nothing. I haveeeeee gotten into MANY internet fights over the years over the Rhaegar vision lmaooo. As others pointed out it's a conversation between Rhaegar and Elia after Aegon is born. There are a LOT of Rhaegar haters out there in the book fandom, who call him a rapist, a pdf for kidnapping Lyanna when she was a teenager, a filthy cheating adulterer who shamed Elia and left her for dead, just the worst man ever to live. I'm SO NOT INTERESTED in that conversation, I'm interested in the song of ice and fire. This vision Dany sees tells me two things - 1, that Rhaegar knew about the conqueror's dream and needs to have three children to fulfill this prophecy (the dragon must have three heads) and 2, that because she nearly died giving birth to Aegon, he TOLD ELIA about the conqueror's dream TOO, and in this discussion he's telling her that he needs to go off and father another child. I think because he told her the prophecy, he is implying here that he is going to abduct Lyanna (doubt he knows it'll be her specifically, just generally another woman) and have the third child with her rather than risk Elia and/or the babe dying during the birth. Basically I think Elia was aware and even gave her blessing for Rhaegar to cheat on her, for the sake of the prophecy. He still left her to a terrible fate, he should have done more to protect her, but I think she was very much in the know. This comment is so long and people, I am so sorry lol

Marc van de Klashorst

Guessing the third head is Tyrion isn't a stretch. You are far from alone in thinking that, it's a pretty popular theory.

My_Cousin_Mose

Until George actually puts it on paper I'll remain unconvinced of Jon's true lineage. And at 45:55 you mention its gonna drive you crazy not knowing who the third is well just imagine the people who have been waiting 25 years to have some of these questions answered lol.

IcySystem

This might give us a hint at the meaning of 'the dragon has three heads'. In House of the Dragon Daemon gave us a song singing to Vermithor. The Song was originally written by Ti Mikkel who worked for over 10 years as Assistant to GRRM, giving it more lore credibility. one who breathes fire one bearing wings but two heads need three and a spell that sings follow my voice blood magic old the price has been paid as the fires foretold in visions of flame listen to me the spell that needs three is made whole through me

bard

Howland Reed is the only character alive who was at the tower with Ned when Lyanna died so he could know a lot about what went down there and when Ned went to Starfall to return Dawn to house Dayne.

bard

A lot of people have purple eyes. Mostly people with Valyrian blood but there is also house Dayne who have purple eyes but according to the author they have no Valyrian blood.

Another great vlog! I love your Catelyn commentary, and maybe next book vlog or at the end of the book, I would love to hear your thoughts about how Martin writes female characters (particularly compared to other fantasy, since you read so much). Also the bookshelf looks awesome

Vishnu Vatheriparambil Mohandas

A blue eyed king holding a burning sword is Stannis I believe. In the chapter of Davis we saw Stannis holding his swird lightbringer that was glowing. Stannis has blue eyes. Or maybe it someone else

Luuk

Yeah the show was kinda stupid for calling Jon Aegon while Rhaegar already had a son named Aegon

Avery

Warg Bran chapters are so fun

Kemi Stanton

I want to tack a comment on here about Lyanna because even though I said he didn't know it would be her, I don't mean to imply that just ANY woman would do either. I think there's more to the prophecy that led Rhaegar to Lyanna specifically, we just don't know enough yet.

RabidRabbit

The other thing about Elia that for some reason no-one ever points out -- come on, people, she was Dornish<. Would she even consider it cheating on his part?

Kemi Stanton

Every time I bring that up I get hit with "that's racist, then, Rhaegar using her culture to get away with cheating" like Elia herself has no say and couldn't possibly be on board with the whole thing. 🙄 HUGE news for me as of last night tho - it looks like the stage play basically confirms everything you and I are talking about here so big win for Elia fans today! Vindication is sweet
