Masterpiece movie, Masterpiece reaction, and a Masterpiece of a person doing the reaction!

SplinterTME

I vote you should watch "Apollo 13" next, those who know, will know.

Loved your reaction to this wonderful film. I'd be interested to know what you found out/researched after watching the movie. Also, this movie is making ripples even now. Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan) has gone on multiple USO tours to entertain and lift the spirits of soldiers far from home. He also named his band "The Lieutenant Dan Band"

New Here. This Reaction brought me here. Watched up until first “Run Forrest” scene on YouTube and stopped. I had to see the whole thing. Thank You. Everything about This was Awesome. Thank You so Very Much, and I’m sorry about your headache. From my end, I’d say it was worth it. ;-) I hadn’t thought of Amelia Bedelia in Years! Never drew the connection, but you were right on that one. Fun notes: According to Tom Hanks, what Forrest says at the Washington Monument, is… “Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don’t go home at all. That’s a bad thing. That’s all I have to say about that.” In 1979, one of the best versions of Elvis Presley ever put on film, was done by Kurt Russell, in the TV Movie titled, Elvis. This film proved to everyone that Kurt Russell was a great actor and not a has been child star. The following year, Kurt Russell got his big break away from doing kids movies and TV movies, by starring in the R rated comedy Used Cars (1980), written and directed by Robert Zemeckis, which was only Zemeckis’ 2nd film. Kurt’s and Zemeckis’ careers took off like crazy and fourteen years later, Kurt and Zemeckis, at their peak, reunited for a small moment in Forrest Gump, as a nod to both of their beginnings. The voice of Elvis Presley in the scene with Forrest, was Kurt Russell. The “I’m walking here” line which Lieutenant Dan said as he banged on the hood of the taxi, was not from Forrest Gump. It originated from the film, Midnight Cowboy (1969), and was actually improvised by Dustin Hoffman. It was a legitimate reaction to something that happens in the film, but was unplanned. Speaking of Dustin Hoffman… one year after Midnight Cowboy, Hoffman starred in a film that could be described as Forrest Gump in the Old West. Little Big Man (1970), starring Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway and Chief Dan George. The character that Hoffman plays, like Forrest, is narrating the story of his life in the Old West, which had him being involved with many actual historical events. The film is both serious and funny. I highly recommend it. Lastly… if you ever need another good cry. And I mean GOOD CRY. Please check out… Steel Magnolias (1989), starring Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Shirley MacLaine. Your Heart will Thank You :-) PS: Someone earlier mentioned, Apollo 13 (1995). If you haven’t seen it, definitely add that one to your list. ;-)

It’s 2:15 in the morning, and I just finished watching your full reaction to this movie…and I’m a wreck. I get emotional every single time I watch this movie, but the only time I’ve lost control of my emotions was the very first time I saw this movie in the theatre. I was so excited to see this reaction on your channel. It’s one of my top 5 favorite movies hands down. Everything about this movie is amazing. I’m usually very good with words, but it would literally be like writing an essay if I were to sit here and describe everything I love about it. But I do have to say one thing. I primarily knew Tom Hanks as a comedic actor from movies like Bachelor Party, Volunteers, and Big, and his breakout sitcom, Bosom Buddies. And then I saw him in Philadelphia and this movie. And my perception of him as an actor completely changed. The man has amazing range. I decided to join your Patreon after watching your reaction to Jaws. And now, after watching your reaction to this movie, I know I made a great decision to join you on your cinematic journey. So I’d like to make first official recommendation to you, and it’s another one of my top favorite movies. Not sure if you’ve seen it yet, but if you want another movie that will having you spinning the emotional roulette wheel, please watch Mr. Holland’s Opus with Richard Dreyfuss (who you just saw in Jaws). Oh…and just like in Forrest Gump, you get a little bit of a history lesson along with a great movie.

I too decided to join your Patreon after watching your reaction to Forest Gump. I was a wreck along with you. Your reactions are amazing to watch!

Great (emotional) reaction. Good music in the movie and incorporated well, as you noted. I love the Vietnam War era songs. That's cool that history teacher (who you were the student teacher for) used those songs to teach history of the time. The most chilling line in the movie: "Dear God, make me a bird. So I could fly far. Far far away from here."

Eddie Perkins

This is one of those movies that pulls at my heartstrings no matter how many times I watch it. Being born in 62, I remember all those historical events, and the music, as you said, was so well-placed. Some of the best music ever came from the Vietnam era. Great reaction.

Teegan will get a good cry even from Little Big Man. Not quite like this movie but... I never thought of LBM as a sort of 'Forrest Gump in the Old West', but it is apt. My now ex-wife introduced me to LBM when we were married and it's still one of my favorite movies (and we're still good friends!). No one introduced me to Forrest Gump except Forrest Gump. I just decided to watch it one day. The Shawshank Redemption would most likely have won best picture that year if not for this movie; sure that's just my opinion and I do like that movie just s l i g h t l y better than this, and Pulp fiction 3rd for 1994. What a year...
