MoonageDaydream

You’ll probably get 150 comments telling you it’s not historically accurate, so if anyone goes into it looking for a history lesson they’ll be disappointed, but I couldn’t care less about that. I’m Scottish myself and it’s just a good entertaining movie and it wasn’t made with the intention of educating anyone about our history. It’s also one of my fave movie soundtracks ever, I listen to it pretty often. James Horner the GOAT 👊🏻

I agree with @MoonageDaydream said

Kevin Cavanaugh

I also thought history for a number of years interesting fact did not know that about you, but I knew I liked you ha ha ha it’s pretty gory and bloody so but I’m sure you’ll like it

Dan M

I have been eagerly anticipating your reaction to this movie since I became a member. It’s one of my all time favorite movies. Like Moonage said below, Mel Gibson and Randall Wallace received a lot of criticism over how historically inaccurate this movie is. Randall Wallace (no relationship to William Wallace) was inspired by a 15th century poem about William Wallace, and adapted it into a screenplay for this movie. But both he and Gibson have both admitted that the source material was pretty boring, so they developed it further to enhance the story for dramatic effect. But I couldn’t care less. I don’t love this movie for its historical context. Like you said in your post, it hits on every emotional level and it’s pure entertainment. I can’t wait to watch along with you later tonight.

Dan M

Couldn’t agree with you more Moonage!

Right! There’s certainly a time and place for historically accurate pieces (BoB) but sometimes so good ole fashioned entertainment is just what the doctor ordered!

Dan M

The music in this movie is integral to the emotional impact that it has. I’ve seen this movie countless times, and the score moves me just as much as the music in Gladiator. James Horner is a magician when it comes to movie scores, and often incorporates Celtic music into his work . He also wrote the music for Titanic, Avatar, Aliens, Field of Dreams, Apollo 13, Glory (another must watch for you), and Legends of the Fall (ditto for a must watch).

LiteWeight Gaming / Reacting

Soundtrack was SO powerful! Also, Scotland is one of the places I want to travel to most and this did not help me wanting to go there! It’s so beautiful!

Hey I love this movie! Excited to see it! There is one movie that Mel Gibson showcases his best performance and it's based on a true story that was written in a book by veterans. The movie is called "We Were Soldiers" (2002) This movie won several awards too. Gor context this movie is about the first major battle with U.S/ Vietnam. It takes on a whole other perspective of war but I won't spoil how. Just know Vets have seen that movie and applaud how accurate it was. Would love to see you watch it for the channel with you loving history. This movie is loved by historians of the Vietnam War era.

Dan M

Totally on board with a reaction to We Were Soldiers.

Dan M

I am huge Mel Gibson fan. He gets blasted for his personal views, but the man can flat out act, and has tremendous range. A couple of other suggestions for courtesy of Mel Gibson: The Patriot Forever Young We Were Soldiers What Women Want The Man Without a Face

Robert da Spruce

Pleasant surprise to wake up to this morning! Can’t wait to watch your reaction tonight!

Wil Castillo

A couple of other good movies from Mel Gibson: - The Passion of the Christ - Apocalypto

Dan M

Big smile on my face right now

TeeZee22

What? Some people don't watch both this version and the Youtube version? They are doing it wrong!

Clay F

I like We Were Soliders (2002). Good intense movie. Plus, a reaction has good chance to get decent number of YT views. Four other Vietnam war movies that I like: Platoon (1986). Oliver Stone. AFI Top 100 Apocalypse Now (1979). Francis Ford Coppola. AFI Top 100 The Deer Hunter (1978). Best Picture Oscar. AFI Top 100 Full Metal Jacket (1987). Stanley Kubrick. Gets good views.

LiteWeight Gaming / Reacting

Well I know there’s only so much time in the day but I certainly greatly appreciate everyone who watches both 😊 This movie was a lot of fun! I wasn’t expecting to laugh as much as I did honestly. Do you like Braveheart?

TeeZee22

Yes, I like it. It's not a movie that I like so much that I watch it several times, like Gladiator, Forrest Gump, Field of Dreams, etc. but I did enjoy it.

Alex Gorell

when people tell me that I tell them its not a documentary so idc.

Sam Blades

This is a rare thing were I’ve not seen the film you’ve reacted to so I’m intrigued to watch this 😁

Alex Gorell

Just an fyi to anyone watching on paramount plus the sync isn’t 100% it’s about 2 seconds behind.

Canonman28

Yes we all know it’s historically inaccurate, but it’s still such a good film. As a Scottish person I still love it. Also our national anthem is about these events. The line where the guy says “William Wallace is 7 feet tall” gave you a little chuckle but there is no actual facts about how tall he was and because after his death he was dismembered we will never know. The speculation arises because we do have his sword, which is preserved in the Wallace monument, which is 1.68m or 5 feet 6 long. Cant imagine what seeing that coming towards you in battle would feel like 😂Because of the size of the sword people have speculated that he could have been 6 foot 7

TheGuy

Does anyone know why her copy is pausing a fraction of a second to a couple seconds every couple minutes? Does this happen to anyone else? It happens with every reaction I have tried watching. I watch in the same way I watch several other reactors, and I have never seen this before. Is it just the player she is using maybe? I have tried watching several different ways as well, and always the same, her video pauses frequently and I end up a few minutes off in a short time. Unfortunately, this makes the vids unwatchable, I am too lazy to keep trying to catch up the sync.

LiteWeight Gaming / Reacting

Hello! Sorry this is happening! Unfortunately this happens with any movie I watch on Prime. I don’t illegally stream any movies and any time you have a capture card connected certain streaming services don’t work at all. And trust me, I totally get you not wanting to mess with the stream every few minutes. If anyone has an idea how to 😉watch movies 😉 my DM’s are open! I wanna get this fixed so I don’t have to watch movies on prime ever again so please help!

Dan M

I haven’t had any issues with her full reactions since I joined her Patreon a few weeks ago. Once I sync up with her copy, I’m good for the rest of the movie. You’re not having any internet issues? Maybe your bandwidth is not strong enough for her uploads? Or too many devices working at the same time? I am in no way a tech expert, but I’ve had similar issues in the past and those were some suggestions made to me.

Dan M

Thanks for the heads up Alex! If that’s the case I’ll probably rent the movie on Fandango.

Dan M

See Alex Gorell’s comment below.

Dan M

Not sure if you’d be willing to do this for your reactions Teegan, but I’ve never had an issue with movie quality when I rent from Fandango. Most movies are $3.99 for a 48 hour rental.

TheGuy

I watch several different reactors on Patreon and have no issue with the playback of their vids, including those who watched their copy on Prime. I have tried watching my copy on different streaming services as well, makes no difference if my copy is Prime, Max, Disney, etc. It only happens here. And just to be clear, it is the whole vid pausing, she freezes too, not just the vid she is watching.

Dan M

That’s really weird that’s its not just the playback of the movie she’s watching, but her entire upload. I wish I could help.

Dan M

Or built like The Rock or Ahhhnold. Love those facts. This is one of my all time favorite movies.

Clay F

I have the same/similar issue. I stream on US Amazon Prime Video. Her full reaction videos slowly go out out of sync (her stream of the movie becomes 2-3 seconds behind every 20-30 minutes of the movie), but I find it easy to readjust to be in sync. It's not fatal for me. I am still able to enjoy the reaction. I've never had that issue with other reactors -- in which their video becomes behind by a few seconds. I have had European reactor streams get ahead b/c sometimes the stream of the movie in Europe is 25 frames per second (fps) compared to 24 fps in the US. That's relatively easy to fix by slightly slowing the playback speed of the European reactor video.

Alex Gorell

It actually gets worse as the movie goes on by the end it’s almost 5 seconds behind. It’s weird.

LiteWeight Gaming / Reacting

So sorry it’s so bad with this one! I had a few super small stutters while streaming this movie, but it wasn’t even a full second of delay so I don’t think that would be causing the issue! Not sure why this one is so bad, but I’m sorry about that!!!

Alex Gorell

No worries. Every 5-10minutes I just paused it to let it catch up for a few seconds.

Clay F

Excellent reaction. "Every man dies. Not every man really lives." (the quote you wrote down). "And that little fuck doesn't even have the balls to watch" -- and he was responsible for her having her throat slit. I am glad that sleazy guy was killed. At the funeral, Wallace kneeling before her father without saying anything -- I agree that was a heartfelt scene. I was blown away by the battle sequences when the movie was released almost 30 years ago. There are aspects of the movie that provide a tenor and realism of the time, but the movie is not intended to be historically accurate, which doesn't matter. It is a great story (highly entertaining and inspirational) and sheds a positive light on Scotland. I, like you, want to visit Scotland. "Outlander" (2014-present) that involves Scotland is an excellent TV series. Based on a popular book series. Time travel, action, intrigue, scenery, history, architecture, food, and a love story or two. The majority (50+%) of the audience of the OUTLANDER TV series is female. The lead character in OUTLANDER is an empowering female. She narrates (rare for a show to have a female narrator). She won Saturn Award for Best Actress in a Television Series. OUTLANDER. IMDb=8.4, RT=91% --Nominated for 34 Saturn Awards. --Winner of Saturn Award for Best Action/Thriller Television Series. --Winner of Saturn Award for Best Fantasy Television Series. --Nominated for 4 Emmy's. --Nominated for 6 Golden Globes.

Clay F

I stream on Prime and her stream of the movie becomes 2-5 seconds behind, but as you indicate, it's not a big deal for me -- I simply pause my stream to re-sync.

Dan M

No worries. I’ll let you know if I have any issues staying synced up with your reaction with the rented copy from Fandango.

LiteWeight Gaming / Reacting

Thank you for the dialogue here cus this will help me get better in the future. It’s certainly strange it’s the whole video that is freezing though. That quite frankly does not make any sense! It is a known issue that my movie will slowly slip out of sync due to playback error from Prime on my Xbox.

sammy

Great movie and reaction :)

celilmandir

This brings me back to my teenage years, watching this in the theater with the huge screen and the surround sound, the violin crescendo during the English heavy cavalry charge was absolutely MENTAL! Also Teegan, it's been a while since you watched Gladiator, but did you recognize Maximus' servant as the Scottish husband who has his wife taken from him on their wedding day? He's got a very distinct scar on each cheek, courtesy of some thugs back in his younger years.

celilmandir

Was the same for me, every 5-6 minutes, my Prime stream was about 2 seconds ahead, it's just a matter of pausing it and letting hers catch up, I don't see why some people are making a big deal out of it.

Robert da Spruce

Excellent reaction! Great movie too! Of course I was familiar with Mel Gibson as an actor (Mad Max, Lethal Weapon, etc..). But this film really made me respect his ability to direct Fun fact: this movie is where I got my screen name from. When I first joined Patreon, I was trying to think of a screen name (My first name really is Robert) I had just watched Braveheart recently, so I guess it was on the brain. I actually tried Robert the Bruce first. but it was already taken 😄 Even though I’ve seen this movie many times, I still get goosebumps when William yells “Freedom!”

Robert da Spruce

I also have the same issue. The film slowly gets out of sync even though I sync it exactly. So every once in a while I need to pause/unpause my copy for a split second to get it back in sync. This happens whether I’m streaming or watching physical media (I have the Blu-ray of this film) and only for your channel Teagan. I’m not sure what’s causing it or how to avoid it. Just wanted to let you know I am experiencing the same thing

Dan M

Your reaction to this movie was exactly what I was hoping for. I’m so happy that you felt all the feels that I do…every single time I watch it. And once again, I’m just blown away by the eloquence of your closing comments. “Your heart is free. Have the courage to follow it.” I absolutely love this movie.

Dan M

Not sure if you recognized them, but Hamish was played by Brendan Gleeson, who was Madeye Moody in the Harry Potter movies. And Morrison was played by Tommy Flanagan, who was Cicero (Maximus’ servant) in Gladiator.

Dan M

When Longshanks re-established “prima nocta” (right of the first night), giving English nobles the right to sexual relations with their female subjects on their wedding night, you asked if that really existed. From everything that I’ve read about it, there is a lot of debate as to whether or not it actually existed because there is no hard evidence that it was practiced.

samcro92

Just a little background, the main reason this movie gets slated for it's historical accuracy is because of how Robert the bruce is portrayed, in Scotland today he's recognised as a hero as much as, and maybe even more so than Wallace. The truth is that he didn't betray wallace at the battle of Falkirk because he wasn't even there, infact at that time, they hadn't even met each other yet. When Wallace went into hiding, a temporary truce was called by the nobles (and against roberts wishes), which ended the 1st war for independence as a failer. After Wallace was found and executed, it was Robert, who broke the truce, was declared king and led Scotland to freedom in the 2nd war for independence. There is a movie on Netflix called the Outlaw King, it takes place shortly after Wallace is killed, and it's about the 2nd war. Chris pine plays Robert, and it's much more historically accurate.

Farbod

The Outlaw King is brilliant. Highly recommend watching it.

John A

One of my favorite movies. Mel Gibson is great in this

Jeremy Smith

Even the term Braveheart having nothing to do with Wallace, was actually though King Robert had completed all the things he'd vowed to do as monarch (minus going on a crusade as his father had done under Edward I, they were essentially friends) when he was available to go on a crusade he couldn't due to ill health, so either James Douglas offered or was instructed to take Roberts heart back to the holy land, only James Douglas died in his 1st battle on a crusade It was evidenced as such when Roberts tomb was discovered when clearing out some things, when they came across this vault in 1819, some thought might been David I though he'd not been opened at the chest like Robert I had been. was in pretty good condition considering his remains had been there for circa 600 years.

Jeremy Smith

Is more than likely the Declaration of Arbroath (wasnt written by Robert I, though letters later on were) written in 1320 was some of the inspiration for the Declaration of Independence.

Jeremy Smith

isabella of france was in blue at before 1:01,though she didnt marry Edward of

Jeremy Smith

Isabella of France at before 1:01 though she factually didnt marry Edward of Caernarfon or Caernarvon until he succeededs his father, she went back to France to gather support and her partner Roger Mortimer and she deposed him replacing him with Edward II eldest son Edward III (most of what you associate with being English is because of him) The Order of The Garter being one of them https://youtu.be/dhFjwz3zF5Y companions of the monarch

Jeremy Smith

It wasnt a man called Philip but Piers Gaveston, actually his father was pretty high up in Edward I court. When Edward I noticed he was getting a bit too close to Edward II he exiled him to France when Edward I died at Carlisle from dysentery and not TB lol, Edward II took Gaveston out of exile and made him the Earl of Cornwall which really ticked off Edwards nobility, almost causing a civil war if it wasnt for Aymer de Valence the English army commander the Earl of Pembroke
