This movie was like if Speed Racer and Ready Player One had a baby (even though its older than one of its parents...)

Oh nice! And on my day off! A very fun movie, love to rewatch it.

Darn doctor appointment … keeping me from instantly watching!! Soon … soon. 😃

Constantly stepping on jokes so that you can seem funny or trying to guess every piece of dialogue or plot point in a popcorn flick so you can seem smart is alot. And for this. I am out.

I'm in lesbians with this movie.

Sorry you didn’t like the reaction. Thanks for being here while you were 😊 Since you’re leaving, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight!

I’m type 2 diabetic, you can’t be so sweet. 😉. So glad (and not surprised) you enjoyed the film. If you ever get access to the physical media, there are two separate cast commentaries since there are so many people in it. 😀

Love this film, and love to see another fan of Metric!

A couple little tidbits: First, the movie was originally going to have Scott and Knives get back together at the end. But between the end of principal filming and the release of the movie, the original book version wrapped up with Scott and Ramona staying together. After debating things, they decided to write and film a new ending to the movie that matched the book. (also, early test audiences didn't like it) But since the rest of the movie was unchanged, that's why you can feel like Scott and Knives could have worked in the end; the breadcrumbs for that outcome are still in the finished product. Second, and this goes to your point about Scott not really being a "good guy", consider that Nega Scott is supposed to be the opposite of our main character. And Scott describes Nega Scott as "just a really nice guy". So if Nega Scott is a really nice guy, and he's the opposite of Scott, what does that make Scott...? ;)

This movie introduced me to Metric. Been a fan of them ever since

Great reaction. I thought you would appreciate this movie. I took my kid to see in the theater. I liked it. Creative. I became a fan of Alison Pill (Kim the drummer) when she starred in awesome TV show "The Newsroom" w/Jeff Daniels. You said you've seen that guy (i.e., Thomas Jane) (hilarious vegan police) in something sci-fi. I liked him in the awesome sci-fi TV show "The Expanse". I first saw him in the HBO "Hung" series.

I love this movie so much, because it starts off with such an unlikable protagonist, but eventually behind the special effects and jokes, it’s a story about growing up, for so many characters. But yeah…Captain America, Captain Marvel, Lady Death, and Superman all in one movie! (Brandon Routh, the Vegan bass player, played Superman in the 2006 “Superman Returns” movie.) I love Knives’ progression, too. She’s not just a cringy rebound that is there for Scott to dump. She really gets to grow up through it too. She’s treated like crap, and she uses it to grow positively. And by the end, she’s right…she’s too cool for Scott. Also, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is such a manic pixie dream girl, and she is at her most enchanting in this movie. But maybe it’s perfect to see this now, because pretty soon in your Clone Wars watch, you’ll get to meet the character she plays! (Also, she married Obi-Wan Kenobi. Not in the show…she actually married Ewan Macgregor!)

Same director as Shaun of the Dead as well.

George Roybal

Fun fact. The actress who played Romona is married to Ewan Obi-Wan McGregor. She is also in the live action Ahsoka Tano series.

Jonathan Schwartman (Gideon) is the son of Talia Shire (Adrian from Rocky).

"Your BF's about to be F'd in the B!" Lives rent free in my head. 😆

I'm a few years younger than you living in middle-of-nowhere central canada when this movie came out, and watching it a gajillion times made Toronto seem like even more of a mythical fantasy place than it already did. So now that I live here it breaks my brain to just casually be around actual locations from this movie all the time baha. It's funny you talk about how 2010 it feels, because whenever I talk to locals who were old enough to be going to concerts in the mid/late 2000's I always joke "okay so you were around during Scott Pilgrim times" and everyone says "somehow it actually did feel like living in that movie"

Matthew McDowell

As a Canadian from Brampton, I definitely did a double-take when I heard "The next band is from Brampton...". It's not something I've ever heard in a Hollywood movie.

Matthew McDowell

Thanks for reacting to this one. I've never seen it before. I almost loved it. Edgar Wright's style and humour was great, but the protagonist was so unlikeable that it was tough to get through. Good reaction though.

As someone else mentioned, the original ending for the movie actually had Scott staying with Knives, and they actually filmed it and included it as an extra on the DVD and Blu-Ray. You can watch it on YouTube though (https://youtu.be/79SxL85wHkA?is=n4WKdkhg4zZOJGgu). If you ignore the age gap issue (which you shouldn’t) it’s arguably a better ending IMO. I think they could have blended the endings better, leaving in the heart-to-heart with Ramona but still having Knives tell him that they both made each other better and that’s why he fought for her or something similar. But what do I know? I was in college when this movie came out so there’s a lot of nostalgia with this movie, but I do think it holds up fairly well. Especially on the other side of the MCU era where comic book movies are much more allowed to be surreal (I think this is the word you were looking for in your closing thoughts) and comical than they were when this movie came out. Keep in mind that 2010 was the era of The Dark Knight and the first Iron Man and just after the Raimi Spider-Man movies and the original X-Men trilogy. By and large, comic book movies were still trying to stay grounded and serious to try to be considered more than kids’ movies, but Scott Pilgrim manages to be fun and colorful and over-the-top without being juvenile.
