Greetings,

there are a few topics to talk about this time, but first things first. I did more rendering and scripting as usual and could finish some scenes. I also finished 2 animations.

The "gory" scene I spoke last week about ended up way more tamer than I initially wanted to. I couldn't get the look and style I had in mind in a reasonable effort done. At least not with my current skill set. So I chose a simpler approach that serves the purpose quite well too.

Kinetic Rush challenge

Two times a year a guy that goes by "Pwnisher" holds VFX challenges. Probably the biggest challenges in that scene. The results by all the talented artists are always amazing and worth a look. They always come with a template to start from so he can cut the short animations in one continues video. Yesterday a new challenge was announced with the name "Kinetic Rush" and it will be open for one month.

Top 100 compilation of the previous challenge "Eternal Ascent": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNjMSFLkMZAI'm tempted to participate in this one. As the topic is pretty much related to parkour and I absolutely adore Mirrors Edge. I really would like to participate even if I wouldn't make it in the top 100. However, this would mean I wouldn't have time to work on the game and right afterwards I would go on vacation, which would result in a nearly 2 month break.

I haven't decided yet if I will partake but if I want to, I need to decide in the next few days. If I will take on the challenge I would pause the billing cycle of course. It would be a nice opportunity to learn and try some new stuff, but I also want to continue with the game and finish the first season. For both I simply don't have enough time.

Vacation

I still have some days left that I have to take this year and on top of that I accumulated quite some overtime over the past few weeks working in two projects. Therefor I'll be on a longer vacation beginning in the end of August throughout most of September. It's a bit time until then but I just wanted to give you a heads-up already.

I think you should do it. It can both be a way to get some inspiration and you may learn stuff. And one should never stop learning, especially as a dev.
