[Episode Hamal] Progress Update XXVIII (Patreon)
Content
Greetings,
while I did have some time this week to work on the game I couldn't manage to do as much progress as I would have liked to. However, I still managed to create quite a few images and set the foundations and main key-frames for most of the coming animations. But there is a problem...
Animations
I had a lot of technical problems this week. For someone who is interested in that I put that topic in it's own section below. However, one of the problems was mainly due to posing animations which is why I changed my approach for it temporarily. Instead of posing the whole animation I only pose the two 2 major key frames of such a animation. This way you have a simple 'manually' animation while clicking and switching between those two images. I did that in my old updates already quite a lot but wanted to move away from that too more animations. However, in sight of the long time I already need for this update I'll go back to that approach for the time being. I'll finish all static images first and release another beta for day 3 with this 2-frame-animation approach and will work on the animations while the beta is running.
As I will have all the major key-frame for the animations already this way and they only need some details and stabilization to be turned into final animations that shouldn't take too long... in theory. When the animations are done I'll let them replace the workarounds.
Venting (Technical stuff and problems)
The issue with the fireflies is fixed. I found the solution after already having worked around it for quite a lot of renders. The problem was that for some reason octane decided to unlink a few texture maps from my shader that resulted in a bumpy mirror like torso skin of Elios that ended up causing these problems. From now on this should be fixed but I won't redo all affected renders. That would just cost to much time. Sometimes it's a bit annoying (mostly for me, knowing it could be different) but in a normal play session it shouldn't be too irritating.
Posing animations in Daz3D is always a pain in the ass but this week was ridicules in terms of crashes. It's pretty common to copy and paste keyframes, however, for some reason Daz3D often can't interpolate between pasted keyframes correctly. And if you made the mistake to jump to a frame between those keyframes without setting the interpolation of those keyframes to linear and back to bezier, Daz fucks up the mesh and can't handle it.So... I forgot that a lot this week... which costs me hours as they also often come with a loss of progress,
The next problem is the adobe media encoder. It just stopped working from one day to another without having installed anything new or making any changes... I had to uninstall and re-install all my plugins again to fix that error.
