This movie ties into The Face Reader. The coup shown in that film led to Sejo becoming king, and he is the one who later deposed the young king featured in this movie.

- King Danjong ascended the throne at the age of 12. - Danjong became the Retired King at the age of 15. He was forced to hand over the throne to his uncle, Prince Suyang(later King Sejo), and became "Sangwang" (Retired King). In the early Joseon Dynasty, it was not uncommon for an aging king to voluntarily abdicate in favor of the next king and spend the rest of his life in retirement. However, Danjong's case was completely different. he did not abdicate willingly; the throne was taken from him by force. - At the age of 16, an attempt by Danjong's supporters to restore him to the throne failed, and they were all executed. As a result, Danjong was stripped of his title as Retired King, reduced to the rank of a prince, and exiled. To add some historical context, King Danjong's grandfather was King Sejong the Great, the creator of the Korean alphabet, Hangul. He is one of the most revered kings in Korean history and is honored with the title "the Great." Danjong was the legitimate eldest grandson of King Sejong through the direct royal line, making his bloodline exceptionally prestigious. Because of this, many Koreans still deeply sympathize with Danjong and strongly dislike King Sejo for taking the throne from him. In fact, if you look up King Sejo's royal tomb on Korean map apps, you'll find countless reviews from people criticizing and insulting him. lol
