A family beset by religious mania, white supremacist obsessions, and deep paranoia about the government. Federal agencies causing multiple deaths through a bungled attempt at apprehending Randy and Vicki Weaver. Ruby Ridge is a central flashpoint of the paranoid nineties. Julian Feeld and Jon Gabrus walk you through it.

Don’t know if it 100% fits into your theme, but I’d be interested to hear you guys cover the 1985 MOVE bombing in Philly. I was only 8 at the time, and I still remember it stirring the seeds of radicalization when I saw that happening.

This one was very interesting. I once had a patient in a nursing home that claimed he was one of the agents present at Waco, and he was laughing as he recalled shooting at the people. Dark stuff

Without knowing you guys were going to do Ruby Ridge this week I watched Arlington Road. A Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins thriller about a history professor who believes his neighbor is a Timothy McVeigh type and they show a Ruby Ridge event in the movie.

We are in the “find out” stage of U.S. history. #FAFO

Emily

Arlington Road was such a great movie and Joan Cusack was scary good in it too.

Really good episode. Some facts in there that I hadn't previously heard. Jon Ronson ( one of your past QAA guests) covered this also in chapter 2 of his book " Them : Adventures with Extremists." Just been re-reading that - highly recommended 👉. Interesting chapter on investigating Bohemian Grove with Alex Jones as well ( also a grainy video version available on YouTube). Quite amusing in places and very revealing ( more about Alex than the Grove!)

Ariel Kutzin

The song at the end is spectacular

Julian is good at podcasting

As someone who was forced to grow up in the general neighborhood where this happened, it was hard to get past how much of a miss the pronouncation of Coeur d'Alene was. It's Cord-Dee-Lane. While I am sure that is way off from the French, that is how everyone who lives in the area says it.

Swimaroo

It's so funny how you guys both got Coured De Lane wrong. Proper hicks say is Courdalane

Jessica

I'm from Washington and I laughed so hard at that 😂😂

Jessica

I grew up south of Seattle and everyone I know says "cor-da-lane". Julian's actual French version made me laugh so hard 😂😂

Glad to hear y'all mention Jess Walter's book on Ruby Ridge (the edition I read was titled "Every Knee Shall Bow). It's a great source for anyone wanting to delve into the Weavers' convoluted religious beliefs.
