The least known book that changed the world. The Late Great Planet Earth is the topic of our first Super Structure book club episode. Published in 1970, TLGPE became a huge best seller that influenced people from Ronald Reagan to Ruby Ridge’s Vicki Weaver. It’s also the blueprint for a now-resurgent form of Christian Zionism. Julian Feeld and Jon Gabrus are joined by Hayden Tank, host of the Bible Lore podcast, to explore this piece of apocalyptic prophesy.

As a teenager in the UK in the 80s, my then boyfriend and I were given this book by one of his workmates. He was part of an evangelical church and wanted us to join and become “born again”. As a soft brained easily manipulated teenager I found the book convincing and a bit scary. Fortunately I escaped to university in the big city, dumped the boyfriend, and never thought about the book again. That is, until now.

Fell into a hole at the end during the Nina track and had massive flashbacks to the goose cult dj sessions - love y’all ♾🖤♾

Thanks for giving us such a close reading of TLGPE, guys. Especially the focus on apocalyptic imaginaries. I feel like book club episodes are gonna be my faves.

gotta say this was a phenomenal episode, please take any excuse to have this guest back on because he's great and he fits the vibe of the show perfectly. tbh as a longtime QAA listener i've often thought "what if julian wasn't weighed down by these fucking lib cohosts" (jk ilu) so this show kinda feels like you made it for me personally.

“Intro slaps” Runs through my head every time I start a new ep. Other than Trillbillies it’s the only intro I don’t skip.

I took Latin for my language requirements for my bachelor's. One thing that stuck was how English translations always sounded so... biblical. It makes perfect sense though. The Bible most people know in America is translated from Latin (the "Vulgate" IIRC). It's also funny how some Christian fundy leaders ape that style in the way they talk in their sermons. It's just the way the it was translated!
