Love is in the air this episode!! 🔥💖

We're jumping into episode 9 titled, "The wind goes whoosh, my heart goes boohoo."

There were so many love dilemmas in this one and we can't wait to hear your thoughts familia 😂

Ae-sun and Gwan-shik definitely raised hard headed romantics and we were lowkey triggered 😭 It seems like they’re finally experiencing the same headaches they once gave their elders…

Yesssss. Been waiting for this, thanks familia! That bro brat isnt scared of his parents. When I was young, I wasn't exactly a good child coz i was too all over the place and often getting into accidents. Im even surprised Im alive now but way less energetic lol, but that was the kind of child I was and I guess I can be referred to as a brat too way back and a bit spoiled but definitely not like that curly haired bro. I at least was scared of my mom coz she was fierce and my dad was only super strict when it comes to boys. My mom was strict too about clothes and hair color haha. She hates ripped jeans and red punk look hair. When I look back to it now, I cringe at how I tried to look like an emo or rock star but often ended up looking like posh spice. Hahaha. Or a spoiled rich punk. Now I just look like an ordinary army mom crushing on hobi and supporting an army kid who wants to marry JK.

2026-10-16 02:00 i wanted to answer some questions you guys had/add info! 1. eunmyeong does his best for his parents with what he knows. he is always going on about earning money because he sees how hard his parents have it and thinks that's how he can help out and break the cycle. he also feels bitter that he's always "second place" to geummyeong, even down to their names (geum being gold and eun being silver). he feels that his parents are sacrificing themselves to support geummyeong's dream (such as selling the house, going back to setting up a street stall) and he gets angry about this because that's how he expresses his caring heart for his parents. at the same time, from his pov, his parents are just always getting mad at him for "trying to make money" and they don't seem to show the same kind of gentle love that they show geummyeong. he's not a bad kid by any means, just an immature and troubled one. 2. yeongbeom ("soldier boyfriend") and geummyeong got into the fight because from yeongbeom's perspective, he cares about geummyeong and wants her to live in a safe area. however, from geummyeong's perspective, she is doing just fine here and him saying that she should just move to his neighbourhood is tone deaf. yeongbeom is from a wealthy family and she can't afford rent in that area. if she moves in with him, she'll end up depending on him which she doesn't want either. yeongbeom is a really nice guy and he really loves her, but he wasn't seeing her side and wasn't exactly listening to her either. you'll learn more about him over time! 3. i forgot his name but i'll call the artist guy picasso. he wasn't buseon's "mistress" exactly. i might be wrong, but i think he was originally dating her, but she keeps cheating on him. eventually, she decides to leave him to marry another guy, but she still sticks around him and he's had enough of it. there's the difference in class again - buseon is wealthier/likes nice things. picasso can't afford that, but he was happy enough with their humble dates. it's just that she already decided to be with someone else, and he didn't like her enough to be a second choice anymore. i think the creepy factor is just his poor social skills and not caring too much about his appearance, hence the overgrown facial hair. he's also just caught geummyeong at bad times. he did reject everyone's creepy suggestions about going after geummyeong (even if he seems mildly interested in her). he also got scolded for not drawing naked women on his billboard, which semi-indicates that he doesn't objectify women in that way (like some other men at work do). you'll learn more about him over time as well! these events are all happening in the same time frame in different locations (jeju vs seoul). i hope any of this is helpful! i love watching with you guys and can't wait for tomorrow's episode! qotd: i am also the eldest daughter and my partner is the youngest son! i think this is a thing lol

Hi Familia! Here's just a bit of information regarding the scene where Aesoon and Gwansik were shocked as soon as they heard the name of Eunmyeong's girlfriend. The Korean surname Bu is a very rare family name in Korea. Most people with this surname are from Jeju, which is considered the ancestral origin of the Bu family. The Bu clan is so small and close-knit that back in the 1980s and 1990s, if someone said their last name was Bu, people in Jeju immediately knew which family they were from. That's why Aesoon and Gwansik heard that Eunmyeong’s girlfriend’s name was Bu Hyunsook, they were shocked — because they instantly knew which family she belonged to. Today, there are only a few hundred people with this surname in Korea, and most of them still have family ties to Jeju. Actually, SEVENTEEN’s member Seungkwan also has the last name Bu, and he’s from Jeju too.

at first, i really cannot see how geum-myeong and the painter could potentially be together. especially when her and the soldier boyfriend seem to be very in love with each other. but i started disliking the soldier boyfriend the moment he makes comments about geum-myeong's living area. asking "why do you live here?" or "why do you choose this area?" is very tone deaf and disrespectful. WHY does he think geum-myeong "chooses" to live there? he should have known by then (because they have been together long enough, supposedly), that maybe its the best geum-myeong could afford. otherwise, who would choose such living condition if they have better options? but instead of celebrating her independence (of supporting herself with the money she earns), he berates the way she lives. its like saying to her face "you could have done better (by being with me, with my support), than just settling with this (less ideal) lifestyle/conditions". whereas geum-myeong worked so hard just to support herself and be financially independent. my partner also comes from way wealthier family than mine. when we started dating he was worried his presents were not expensive enough, because he saw the way i spent money on myself. but i firmly told him, "do NOT ever buy me expensive gifts just because". i buy things for myself with my own money that i earned. if i dont have the money, i wont buy it. if i really want it, i will save money until i can afford it. it may takes me months or years, but i will never ask someone else to buy it for me. he would offer to buy me things when he notices i want/need something, but i'd firmly decline any form of gifts/presents and told him to wait until my next birthday or our next anniversary. he still gets me some smaller things, like that one time i broke my phone screen tempered glass protector; he came in with a new one and said "this is not expensive! it costs me less than $5!" before i could say any complaints. the soldier boyfriend is actually a really good caring guy. but geum-myeong is not the type to just sit and follow a boy around in a gilded cage, she wasnt raised like that. ae-sun and gwan-sik raised her to have her own will and voice, to "ride the bike and flip the table", despite her gender being a girl. my partner eventually understands where i came from and respects my independence without hurting his own "masculine provider" pride. the soldier boyfriend doesnt seem to have come to that realization. if he isnt able to understand geum-myeong pov, he might potentially lose her. i notice how marisol also quickly understood why geum-myeong was upset on the soldier boyfriend remarks on her living area; i think its the firstborn daughter trait as well lol. we take pride and feel accomplished for being able to do things by ourselves. on the flip side, just like ae-sun and geum-myeong, the hardest thing for us to do is to ask for help when we actually need one.

I was so surprised to see my name mentioned lol. My messages are always long, so they might be hard to read, but I really appreciate you taking the time to read them and mentioning me in the video. I was truly touched that you even typed it out in Korean ʘ̥_ʘ. Honestly, I’m not very good at English, so I don’t fully understand everything you two say. I try to guess which parts you might be curious about by looking at your expressions, tone of voice, and the timing in the video. Because of that, I might fall short in some ways. The fact that you went to Chinatown just for a few seconds in the intro really shows how dedicated you are to making your videos. I’ve felt this before, but it made me feel it even more. I’m grateful for that effort. I’ve been watching the Mexinese Family channel for about five years! I look forward to supporting you in the future as well. Tongyeong mother-of-pearl refers to decorative material made from shells found in the Tongyeong region of Korea. Mother-of-pearl is made by thinly slicing the inner shell layer of a shell, also called the nacre. It is mainly used on furniture, accessories, and crafts to create shiny, decorative patterns. Tongyeong has long been famous as a city where mother-of-pearl crafts developed, so when people say “Tongyeong mother-of-pearl,” it refers to high-quality traditional Korean mother-of-pearl. In the scene, when a moving company worker says to Aesoon,"If you want to reduce the size of your house, you have to reduce your belongings too. In this day and age, what’s the point of rolling this up so carefully?" Eunmyeong replies,"It's Tongyeong mother-of-pearl." The original Korean line is: "This is still Tongyeong mother-of-pearl, though." Eunmyeong grumbled about how they were going to fit this wardrobe into the small house, but when the moving company worker said something, she spoke up to support her mother haha. Even while grumbling, she helped with the move. It seems that Geumnyeong and Eunmyeong have received love in slightly different ways since they were young. Aesoon and Gwansik are definitely good people, and of course, they also love Eunmyeong as their child. But looking at how Aesoon and Gwansik usually treat Geumnyeong and Eunmyeong, they seem at a loss with Geumnyeong and adjust everything for her, while with Eunmyeong, it feels like they think, “It’s okay to treat her like this.” Even the haenyeo aunt mentioned Eunmyeong. She said, “Don’t be rough just because he’s young. Young leaves tear even in a light rain.” If someone like the haenyeo aunt, who isn’t family, noticed it that way, it must have felt very significant to young Eunmyeong. Even though she loves her mom and dad, seeing them devote so much attention to her older sister probably made her feel quite lonely for a long time. It’s interesting how you paid attention to the camera framing details in the scene where Aesoon looks at the floor of the house! I also tend to notice things like camera angles and scene transitions, so I was glad to see you catch that part too. For reference, Aesoon’s family actually moved to another place within Jeju Island! When I first watched it, I thought they were moving to Seoul or another region. Also, only the apartment scenes were filmed in Jeju, while the hometown village that looks like Jeju was actually a real village set built in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The set covered an area of 33,058 square meters (about 10,000 pyeong) and included around 80 houses with thatched roofs, basalt stone walls, a harbor, and four fishing boats. In the harbor scenes, everything except part of the sea was created with a bluescreen background — but the boats tied up at the dock were real. The behind-the-scenes footage is really fascinating and fun to watch! when you gives you tangerines behind 1&2 https://youtu.be/GFf1IZ6kJvo?si=OqVQjHfRa77p918g https://youtu.be/Oq6FLeNqs8c?si=tPrvb2uicwmcE-MI There’s a scene where Aesoon hangs dried fish in front of the store while organizing it. In Korea, when a new store opens, dried fish like bukeo (dried pollock) or myeongtae (Alaska pollock) are often hung in front of the entrance. The reason for this isn’t just decorative—it’s a symbol wishing for many customers and successful business. People believe that the long, hanging dried fish bring wealth, prosperity, and good fortune, so it’s a traditional custom to hang them at the entrance when opening a new store to pray for luck and thriving business. In short, the fish don’t literally help the business, but it’s a symbolic ritual to wish for fortune and success. When the boarding house owner says to her daughter, “I’ll break your legs,” it doesn’t literally mean she’s going to break them. It’s a strong warning or a joking expression meant to scold. Usually, when parents’ children don’t listen, they might say, “If you don’t behave again, I’ll break your legs!” This doesn’t actually mean they will use violence. It’s more like saying, “Pay attention!” or “Listen to me!” It sounds scary, but it’s often a form of affectionate scolding. In short, it’s a threatening-sounding expression, but it rarely leads to real action. In Korean, it has traditionally been used as a cultural way to warn or discipline children with exaggerated expressions. Kang Yoo-seok, the actor who plays Eunmyeong, said that at Eunmyeong’s age, she was very interested in style, so she tried out various hairstyles. You can see that the corner of Geum-myeong’s boarding house floor is blackened and slightly lifted, looking old. Briquettes (called yeontan in Korean) are round blocks made from compressed charcoal powder that people used in the past to heat their homes. Jangpan is a vinyl floor covering laid over the floor. As the heat from the briquettes passes under the floor to warm the room, if the heat stays too long in one place or the passage underneath gets blocked, the floor above becomes too hot — the jangpan can melt or burn. When that happens, it turns brown, gives off a burnt smell, and sometimes even gets holes. When Aesoon and Gwansik are talking in front of Eunmyeong’s room, there’s a line that goes, “Your mom said she wished she dropped dead.” In the original Korean, the line is “Your mother also wanted to put her nose in a bowl of water and die.” Literally, it means “Your mother also wanted to dip her nose in a bowl of water and die.” The phrase “to die with one’s nose” is a Korean idiom that means “to be so ashamed or embarrassed that you’d rather die.” It doesn’t mean someone actually wants to die—it’s an exaggerated way to express deep shame or humiliation. The scene where Eunmyeong says to Gwansik, “Love isn’t misconduct!”, comes from a line by Park Hae-joon, the actor who plays Gwansik. In the drama “The World of the Married,” Park Hae-joon plays a bad character who is married but cheats. When his affair is discovered by his wife, he says, “Falling in love isn’t a crime!!!” This line became Park Hae-joon’s most famous quote and even turned into a meme. People sometimes shorten it using the first letters of the Korean phrase (사빠죄아, for “사랑에 빠진 게 죄는 아니잖아”). However, Eunmyeong doesn’t say the line exactly as it was in The World of the Married—she says a similar version—so many Koreans feel a bit disappointed. lol Hyunsook (Eunmyeong’s girlfriend) kneels in front of Aesoon and Gwansik and dips her nose in saliva. In Korea, traditionally, kneeling in front of elders was considered a sign of respect and humility. While it’s not common in everyday life nowadays, it was a natural behavior in that era. Also, kneeling for a long time can cause poor blood circulation in the legs, leading to numbness or a tingling sensation. This is called “legs going numb.” In such situations, there is a habit of rubbing saliva on the nose. The reason is more of a folk custom or psychological comfort than a scientific one. People believe that rubbing saliva on the nose can relieve discomfort or help distract from the numbness and uneasiness caused by kneeling. In short, applying saliva doesn’t actually improve circulation or relieve numbness faster, but in Korea, it has long been used as a traditional folk practice. When Aesoon and her aunts are talking in the store, the TV news says,"President Roh Tae-woo has declared war on crime and violence." In the late 1980s, South Korea was under a military government politically, and socially, organized crime, drugs, and violent incidents were increasing amid rapid economic development. Gangsters became a major social issue. At that time, the president declared a “war on crime,” and this served as the background for the movie Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time (The War on Crime). The film realistically depicts power struggles between gangsters, the police, and political authorities, using real-life figures and events as inspiration. This movie is very famous in South Korea. In the basement of the Cannes theater where Geumnyeong works, there is Picasso (Park Chung-seop)’s studio. In the studio, there’s a poster for the movie “AEMA WANTS TO RIDE AGAIN MADAME AEMA.” Literally, AEMA means “the most cherished horse,” but the movie is actually an erotic film. From the theater’s perspective, the poster should include erotic elements to attract viewers, but Picasso (Park Chung-seop) actually painted a real horse on it, which is a bit absurd and funny. That’s why the theater owner tells Picasso (Park Chung-seop) to consider his position as well.
