Question of the day: Do you believe dreams have meaning or are they just random?

Ready for another episode with you familia, this one is titled “The Storm Sweeps My Heart, The Love Rocks My Heart!”

In the last episode we found out that Eun Myeong’s mysterious girlfriend was the chief’s daughter 😭 (of all people) and Geum Myeong is also in a love dilemma. She’s still (kind of) dating her military boyfriend but recently crossed paths with a painter 🎨, who seems to be catching her interest. The episode ended with Geum Myeong getting caught in the painter's room by him and his gf, it looked bad but it really was just a misunderstanding…

In today’s episode we begin to understand why Ae-sun worried so much about her daughter's safety 😔, and it reminded us that a mothers intuition is never wrong. 💖

Grab your snacks, get comfy, and lets enjoy familia! 🍊✨

QOTD Answer: My mom used to have a book of dream interpretations. It's not a real book. Just a compiled research that she made. Since I always dream a lot of dreams every night, I used to have a dream journal and just write the last one that I can remember. And based on these I check what they mean. It's creepy when you interpret your dreams and they reflect your current state or what you're about to experience so I stopped journaling my dreams and interpret them for my own peace of mind. Because dreams often reflect unresolved emotions that are depicted symbolically in your subconscious. It doesn't follow your conscious mind, meaning even if I think about jhope every night before I sleep or even if all i think all day is BTS and their comeback, they don't appear in my dream. It's not how it works. We tend to dream more vividly about people or situations that are stressful or unresolved. so like if i'm constantly thinking about jhope which is always positive because of my pure joy and admiration and comfort when i think about him, my mind don't need to work through them in dreams. there is nothing to resolve coz i already know what jhope is in my life. he brings joy. so often, what reflects in my dreams are the worries about the future or anything that stresses me out so much. like if i watched a movie that is so creepy, id dream about it but if i watched a light hearted movie i would never dream about that. in short, most dreams stem from fear, anxiety, stress, or unresolved issues. but when i'm happy and don't feel stressed or have no worries during the day, I do dream about jhope or suga but that happens very, very rarely. i've never dreamt about the other members yet lol. maybe it's because jhope is my bias and suga is my bias wrecker. WOW, i wrote such a long comment!!!! I'm sorry familia! lol. But thank you for the QOTD and the reaction. I'm a writer by the way so i can't help it when i'm too expressive only when writing and never in real life. it's because i'm bottled up. haha.

just to clarify, yeongbeom isn't a military guy for a living - he was fulfilling mandatory military service in the previous episodes (service used to be longer back then). if i remember correctly, he is currently a law student! to answer the question, i think they're both good guys. so far, yeongbeom has shown more caring moments for geummyeong vs picasso, but we also see the difference in how their moms treat geummyeong too. what you said about marrying a partner's family is very true. i think geummyeong feels that yeongbeom would be perfect if not for his mom, but his mom is bothersome enough that she can't just ignore the situation because she loves him. at this point, i feel like we haven't seen enough chemistry with picasso to determine anything between them (feels like a budding friendship to me) but the potential has been introduced haha qotd: i think dreams can be random or reflect your current state of mind/what you were recently thinking about (like having a nightmare when you are anxious about something in real life). i don't think they are necessarily predictive of future events though !

This is so weird familia I was just thinking about if dreams meant smthg today cuz I had this dream a couple weeks ago and its sooooo vivid in my memory that i can feel it idk how to describe it. And it is so ironic cuz both Namjoon and Jimin told me at different times in my dream that “things happen for a reason” ik it sounds a little weird or unbelievable BUT i just find it mind blowing cuz idk what they meant by that. And the fact they told me the same thing and also that i remember this dream specifically maybe things do happen for a reason and i was supposed to have that dream and remember it….. idk if im making sense but yeah

i stand by geum-myeong regarding her situation with the boyfriend and his mom. geum-myeong grew up watching her dad standing up for her mom all the time. gwansik always, like ALWAYS, chooses aesun over his own family (mom and grandma); he even had to ask aesun whether he should do anything about the hardships his family is causing her. when his family crossed the line too far, gwansik immediately stepped in and protected them from his own family. geum-myeong will not, and should not, take anything less than that. not after she's been seeing how much her dad protects her mom (and her) their entire life. qotd: i believe dreams are random.. i once had a dream being jin's girlfriend and then vernon's and then wonwoo's wife.. do they mean i will end up with one of them? i dont think so ... 💀💀💀

i'd suggest reply 1988, just because bogum is in it. i think its probably one of his breakthrough roles.. it may be not a popular demand because its not new, but the series is still one of the most iconic kdramas, so i hope you could watch it on your free time ..

The noodle restaurant Pildong Guksu, mentioned in The Boarding House Daughter Gets Married, is located in Jongno-gu, Seoul (although you won’t find it if you search for it today). It was a well-known traditional noodle shop, famous for dishes like janchi guksu (banquet noodles), bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles), and kalguksu (knife-cut noodles). Its old hanok-style atmosphere made it popular with both tourists and locals. In the scene, Chungseob (also called “Picasso”) tells Aesoon that his girlfriend was set up with a man whose family runs a noodle shop. Hearing this, Geummyeong sarcastically says, “They make thousands selling noodles?” Earlier, the boarding house daughter had complained to Chungseob that she hated being frugal, and since noodles aren’t expensive, Geummyeong’s comment has a slightly mocking tone. However, it turns out the man’s family doesn’t just run a small noodle shop — they actually own a very famous restaurant business. That’s when Geummyeong pauses in surprise. lol The Hwaseong Serial Murders were a notorious series of killings that took place in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province (then Hwaseong County), South Korea, between 1986 and 1991. Most of the victims were women, who were murdered while walking alone at night or returning home by bus. The victims’ ages ranged from teenagers to people in their 70s. At the time, the police compared the fingerprints of over 2 million people but were unable to identify the perpetrator for many years. As a result, the case remained one of South Korea’s most mysterious unsolved crimes. In 2019, Lee Chun-jae, who was serving a prison sentence for another rape-murder case, was identified as the true culprit through DNA evidence. He later confessed to a total of 14 murders and 9 rapes. The case served as the real-life inspiration for the film “Memories of Murder” and had a profound impact on Korean society. Back then, there was little concept of preserving crime scenes, which is why in the film, people casually step on footprints at the scene without concern. Moreover, unlike at the time of the original crimes, modern technology eventually helped identify the criminal, highlighting the importance of DNA analysis and the need to improve investigative procedures. When Geummyeong goes to take the ambulance, the narration says: “...the year Korea's three major unsolved cases occurred, Mom called me every night after the nine o'clock news.” One of those “three major unsolved cases” refers to the Hwaseong serial murders. Hearing such frightening news made Aesoon worried about Geummyeong. On top of that, she had an uneasy dream, so she decided to visit Seoul to see her daughter, who rarely contacted her. The expression ‘kkumjariga dwisungsunghada’ means feeling uneasy or unsettled after having a dream. It’s used when a dream leaves you with an unpleasant or anxious feeling — for example, when you experience something strange or scary in the dream, or when it feels so real that it makes you uncomfortable afterward. For instance: ‘I had a weird dream last night. I’ve felt uneasy all day because of it.’ In short, it describes a state where the dream lingers in your mind and keeps you feeling uneasy. Although this exact expression doesn’t appear in the drama, the haenyeo aunts and the family at the uncle’s house ask Aesoon, “Why? Did you have a bad dream?” which conveys the same idea.” The scene where Aesoon dreams of returning to Dongmyeong (her third child) does not mean she chose him over Geummyeong. It’s more like she’s thinking, “If only I had hugged Dongmyeong then, if I had looked at him one more time, if I had told him to stay home and not go out…” — reflecting on what might have happened if she had made different choices back then. After the accident, Aesoon never brought up Dongmyeong’s name to Gwansik, but even as she grew older, it’s clear that she has kept thinking about him all this time. And as an extension of that lingering feeling, her mother’s intuition — stirred up through the dream — led her to visit Geummyeong. Geummyeong’s room latch wasn’t locked by anyone from the outside. When she first moved into the boarding house, she asked the owner to replace the broken latch, but the owner didn’t take it seriously. As a result, the broken latch ended up being locked from the outside. It’s unclear why the latch was on the outside of the door, but when Aesoon runs from Geummyeong’s room into the living room, there seems to be a small hallway between the room and the living area. In older houses, it was more common to have latches or bolts on the outside of the room door rather than locks inside the room. Traditional Korean houses (hanok) often used wooden latches, metal bolts, or string fastenings on the door itself rather than inside locks. These mechanisms were simple to construct and widely used in older homes. Nowadays, it’s more common to have locks or lever-style handles on the inside of the room door. In any case, no one intentionally trapped Geummyeong inside. In fact, the boarding house daughter quickly opened the window to ventilate the room from gas. Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning occurs from the gas released by briquettes used for heating in winter. Briquette gas is carbon monoxide, which is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, making it very hard for people to detect. When briquettes burn without enough oxygen, a lot of this gas is produced. The danger comes from carbon monoxide binding to hemoglobin in the blood, preventing oxygen from being properly delivered to the body. In simple terms, even though you’re breathing, your body doesn’t get oxygen. Symptoms include headaches, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, and in severe cases, loss of consciousness, coma, or death. To prevent it, proper ventilation is essential when using briquette stoves or boilers. That’s why the boarding house daughter immediately opened the window first. The landlord also helped by covering her son’s nose and mouth. Since carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, it’s very dangerous because the body suffers from oxygen deprivation, which causes the symptoms. Traditionally in Korea, when someone suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning, drinking dongchimi (a cold radish water kimchi) was a folk remedy. It was believed to soothe the stomach and induce vomiting, helping the body recover. In the past, when medical knowledge and treatment were limited, this method was widely used, with people believing that drinking cold dongchimi could “clear your head.” However, modern medicine confirms that drinking dongchimi does not treat carbon monoxide poisoning. The safest and most effective response is to move immediately to fresh air and receive oxygen therapy at a hospital. In episode 9, most Koreans who saw the blackened floor in Geummyeong’s room would probably have immediately suspected that carbon monoxide was leaking from the briquettes and anticipated that a related incident might occur. A Spam set gift is a common type of present in Korea. These sets usually include several cans of Spam along with other hams, canned foods, sausages, or similar items. In Korea, it’s customary to give such gift sets during major holidays like Lunar New Year or Chuseok, as well as for weddings, housewarmings, or to show appreciation. They come in various price ranges and are neatly packaged, making them “thoughtful and practical gifts.” In other words, they’re not necessarily expensive, but they are practical items that anyone can use, commonly given to convey care and respect. You can think of it as a Korean-style “practical holiday gift set.” When Geummyeong and Chungseob (Picasso) are talking while eating noodles, Geummyeong says: “Bring a ham set and ask for your daughter’s hand. That way, you won’t have regrets.” Hearing this, Chungseob goes to greet his girlfriend’s father (the boarding house owner) with a Spam set. This was an important conversation for all three of them. Chungseob and his girlfriend were neatly and respectfully dressed to ask for the marriage approval, and both knelt while speaking. This is similar to how Eunmyeong and the girlfriend would kneel when speaking in front of Aesoon and Gwansik — showing proper manners when talking to elders. While the three were talking, Aesoon suddenly ran out of the room. The boarding house owner, not knowing what was happening, asked why it was so noisy. Seeing Aesoon call the ambulance, he quickly covered his young son’s nose and mouth to protect him. Meanwhile, the boarding house daughter hurriedly opened the window for ventilation. One small detail: while eating noodles, Chungseob pushed a side dish toward Geummyeong. Was he just making it easier for her to eat comfortably, or was it a sign of affection? Or perhaps it was a moment showing that Chungseob is genuinely considerate and kind. There’s a behind-the-scenes story for the scene where baby Geummyeong rides a bicycle. To keep the child actor safe, a crew member wore a blue full-body suit from head to toe and held the bicycle from behind during filming haha
