We are continuing our new K-drama Twinkling Watermelon with Episode 2! ✨🍉

Last episode we were introduced to Eun Gyeol, the main character, who was born into a deaf family. He’s kinda their guardian angel connecting his family to the world. 🪽 He’s also a really smart student! ✍️ His dad keeps calling him his pride and wants him to be a doctor BUT he secretly has a passion for music. 🎸

The first episode ended with him sneaking out to burn some fumes. He went busking and killed it in front of a big crowd!!👏👏 Let's see where this kdrama takes us from here....

P.S. While editing we realized something interesting about the end of episode 2… we’ll talk about it next weekend! 👀

The names of Eungyeol's dad and his best friend (Oh Ma Joo) are pretty significant here! Oh Ma Joo and the other famous band member now a soloist in present time were constantly mentioned in the beginning of the episode leading up to the time travel, but I'm not sure you guys caught that. Now the next few episodes are the most fun and will definitely confuse you guys so I hope you can work it out w/o much help haha Excited for next week already!

It's soooo fun watching you so lost since Day 1 hahahaha! You can figure everything very soon. My favorite episode is during the biggest plotwist of this kdrama, that includes the cello girl.

I don't know where you guys are watching this but the translation is a little weird, and it's not translating the songs, someone correct if I'm wrong but is the Viki translation not better?

yeah i think the viki translations may be better but its behind a sign in/pay wall. i watched on bilibili which has the song translations but the quality is set at 720p and you need to sign up for 1080p, it is free tho so idk if they would want to do that. agree that the translations are a bit different on where they're watching from

ahh i adore this drama so much, it really picks up from the next ep. so soo excited to watch along with you!! qotd: i did some guitar lessons when i was younger but ive always wanted to play the piano or drums cause it looks impossible to have both your hands and feet do things simultaneously but be playing different things. or the violin loove a song with strings in the back!!

I'm trying to learn the ppiano now in my 30s... But I've tried learning the guitar before too but never reached more than d basics cz life of elder daughter kept lifing. My dad used to play d Guitar.. N my bros the only person who plays the guitar and other instruments now. He is a part of a band too as a bassist and this drama is getting more n more relatable for me.. Since my bros journey also was the same as the 2nd son. He had to prove himself to be doing music as a full time job and I can say he's doing very well. M proud of my Younger Brother seeing him on stage n being where he is now in life! He's also 95 born jus like Tae n Jimin.. 😍

Thank you again, can't wait for ep 3! It's gonna be funn! P.S. The singer who plays Yoon Dongjin is Yoon Do-hyun, who is a very famous Korean rock singer. Like, there is this cover performance by K-pop 97 liners(which has JK, DK, Mingyu Hao and many others and vocal unit is the band) called I'm a flying butterfly and the original song is by Yoon Do-hyun. Another famous song is Blue Whale, which was mentioned in the recent Insomnia-Zero episode. QOTD: I have briefly learned to play the keyboard, so I can play that a bit, but I am still a beginner. I can see simple YouTube videos and pick it up. But I wanna learn it properly and learn to read music notes properly too. hehe. So I would choose Keyboard/Piano. But I am also interested in guitar, etc.

I just want to add though....the Netflix captions are reallyyyy off and its not conveying correctly what they are saying...for example...the singer from Spine9 said "One last time we will wait for you" which is a lot different from "One last time we will give you a chance"..a lot different tone....I hope you guys watch this on Viki instead if possible...the captions there are way better and almost accurate and they also translate the songs which is an important part of the show Also...your hatred towards Spine9 is way too much which is funny🤣🤣 I mean...I think the drummer's way of reacting was too harsh but I understand them...they are not highchoolers so they do not have that much time to run for their dream, in comparison to Eun-Gyeol who is just 18, as we know in Korean pop or Kpop industry if you are past a certain age it becomes difficult for you to debut and they finally got a chance and now that hope is almost lost so I understand their anger...I would be mad too...again..not justifying the way he reacted to the situation Also...the singer from Spine9 is actually an Idol from the kpop group IKON I believe...so that slow-mo introduction was I think a nod to it since its like a cameo...i really like him...cutie Junieee Also..a funfact: the young Eun-gyeol actor also played young Haru in Begins Youth...he's a great actor for his age Also, Ha-Lee Chan is the ice cream man aka Dad (same person) (pronounced Ha EE Chan in Korean) so they were showing 2 different timelines side by side..ofcourse to give a "whatttt???" moment....we could see the difference in the lighting and fashion and "kurt cobain" and stuff

When I watched the kdrama, I didn’t see any previews. I just knew that it’s a group of high schoolers/outcasts forming band. Like an underdog story. That’s all I knew. When I started watching, I could kinda tell that we’re watching 2 separate timelines. You can tell from the filter/color. Past is a bit…. Warm. Like there’s a muted sepia vibe. Present is more vibrant in color. So, time travel was a possibility to me. BUT the reveal at the end of episode 2. 🤯 I did NOT expect that. I literally had no idea. And it was so fun and satisfying to be suprisee like that. I’m so happy I didn’t read any summary and had no clue about the roles of the actors.

The subtitles made the interaction with band way too serious the band was also getting hurt by Eun gyeol leaving all of a sudden , they were just about to get their big break and he is leaving them stranded there so they were hurt and lashed out , it doesn’t make it ok but it doesn’t mean that they are some big bad guys , I don’t know if you know this but bts also said they threw punches at each other in their early career lol when you are in this type of highly stressful situation that literally effects your career and life things will get heated

I think the reason his dad was so angry was not entirely bcz of the career butbcz he took pride that he knows and loves his family but to learn from a stranger that you own kid hides a huge part of his life from you must be very hurtful and his dad doesn’t know what else his son is hiding and whether it’s something that’s harmful or not
