Touch

She runs her palm across the curve of my ribs, down to my stomach, and across my hips. She wears a smile while she does so, humming with a pleasant, soft affection. She sees such beauty in the body I struggle to love on days where its appearance strikes me as too thin, too small, too little to look at. The sunlight trickles through and highlights my healing skin, reminding me of the effort I’ve been investing in recovery. Pale, soft and pink, dotted with scabs where my nails tore too deep along my belly. Freckles dance along the surface where sunlight highlighted my shoulders and arms. I look at her and she is still smiling. And I smile, too. Because I feel endlessly beautiful when she touches me like this.
