Hello everyone, Sonia here!

Alice, Chloé, Léa and I are very excited to finally show you what we’ve been working on for the past month: babies and toddlers! This post concerns the visuals of babies and toddlers. Details regarding our plans for the gameplay related to them will come at a later time!

It was very wholesome to gather so many references of cute toddlers wearing adorable clothes and walking around all funny... Our work on the Parafolks is always very inspired by the talented Lesly Oh’s illustrations. Here’s the one she did to help us with the design of our toddler:

Illustration by Lesly Oh and our main reference for what we wanted toddlers to look like in the game.

I could show you a lot of other adorable baby and toddler reference pics that helped us but I’m sure you care more about seeing the results so here are some screenshots:

Here’s a look at how children could look when growing up from babies to toddlers. How exciting is that? We still can’t confirm how aging will work or if it will be gradual though, stay tuned!

There are 2 different textures, one for the baby and one for the toddler. The two will share a lot of clothing with one another.

More hairstyles, clothes and facial presets will be available in the future, so you’ll be able to fully customize your babies and toddlers!

We hope you like how they look so far and that it fills your heart with cuteness! Have a wonderful week!

Sonia

Bonus GIF: an early version of the baby playing the adult dance animation. The correct proportions and textures were not done yet!Edit - May 25th, 2023: This post is now public, feel free to share it!

excellent so far! I think softening the eyebrows, defining the lips (many babys have lots of curves to their little lips) and keeping the eyes and eyelashes larger will help

Sashi

OH MY GOSH YES!!!

Mandy

So cute! <3

IdrilPuck

I love it! The toddler’s face might be a little to flushed, but other then that they both look perfect to me, so cute!

Bek

Love it!

Leaf

They look adorable! Will toddlers/babies have height differences too?

Lindsey Mercuria

Y'all are really committed to the cartoon avatars. It's so jarring against the beautiful, soft, realism of the environment. Please build in a means to toggle outlines off.

Marta Čisáriková

Oh my, I admire the crawling, it looks super complex :o I think babies should have bigger eyes and maybe smaller nose, also all babies have their nose a little "up" so they could breathe while breastfed so maybe that's something to work with :) But I am very excited ♥ The carpet is also super cute, btw ♥

Sarah

So there's babies, toddlers, kids, and elders? Is there going to be tweens and teens, too?

ToastedBread

i find it cool out this was made public on the 25th of May and now the game is releasing early access on the 25th of May

Tehkeela Suhnrayze

Toddlers and babies that can be interacted with and movie on their own? I am already making plans for this to be my new go-to Sims game. This just gives me another reason.

Jessica Tourtellotte

Love this preview! The distinction between babies and toddlers is perfect! The baby wiggling in the crib is my favorite.

rénette

I absolutely love Lesly's illustration, it's honestly kinda perfect.

Can't wait to build in this game.

rénette

Will make me want to play big families with lots of generations!

Cassidy Wilson-Warner

I honestly dont think ive ever been more excited for a game in my life!

Something extremely cool I noticed in the growing up gif: the child doesn't just get taller but it's body changes a lot too, losing some baby fat and taking on a more defined shape. (most visible in the lower jaw and neck/shoulder area) It isn't just the height slider at work but likely a variety of invisible sliders. That to me is an incredible achievement! I know gradual aging isn't confirmed at this stage but just think of how attached we will get to these characters watching them become a new version of themselves literally as each day passes.

sofst

I am blown away...

Jessica Jones

Am I the only one who can't see any of the gifs? Because it really looks like I'm the only one who can't see them.

I agree with a previous comment stated about the faces needing a bit of work… the eyes are too wide and big. Also I noticed with the baby crawling it seemed a bit too robotic? babies they kind of stomp with their feet if that makes sense, this feels a bit too smooth so I’d add that bit of heaviness to the animation. I think it would be cute when they’re just learning how to crawl to have them scoot more with their legs lol.

Becky (Tinks)

Fell in love with these images and animations right away! You guys are amazing 🥰😭♥️

Sarah Deleon

Amazing progress. I'd be happy with less detailed babies. No eyelash details and neck folds please. Too close to uncanny valley.

Ricardé

Toddlers look adorable!

Alisha carline

I love it! The crib looks great already.

Ludivine

Trop cute j'ai hâte de jouer avec eux! beau travail!

TED

They look a lot like those porcelain 18th century glass dolls ngl, won't say they are cute or realistic or even cartoony babies, I hope the final version will be more easy on the eyes, but love the growth.

ponyfhtagn

I'm not sure about the look of their heads/faces right now, but definitely very exciting early draft and I love how it's going! <3 Whether aging is done gradually or in stages, I think gradual aging from baby to toddler is a good idea. It would allow babies to grow physically and grow mentally/socially/skill-wise at different rates. Essentially having a baby para model that grows bigger and more toddler-shaped over time regardless of milestones or skill progression. Some babies learn to walk and talk faster or slowers than others. Also if the newborn-->baby-->toddler progression was all technically 'one life stage' it gives the player more time to slow down and enjoy that part of the game, progressing their para's skills in any order or at any pace without worrying about "gotta get all the baby stuff done before they turn into a toddler in three days" and "why do I have to wait so long before I can teach you to crawl?"

Annie Laster

This is incredible ! I love it!

Annie Laster

I cant wait to have 8 of these little babies running around my para-folks house !!! 🤣

HayIshMandy

The faces are like adults. Needs some cutifying but I can’t wait to see where this goes! So happy babies crawl😭😭😭

Sara Morgan

The faces look really adult like but i know it’s early development so I have no worries that it won’t be softened out. Also, that bonus gif made me cackle 😂

Nyssa J

Aaahhhhhhhhh 🥹🥹

SymmaGe

OMGOODNESS, the chunkiness is killing me, Lol it's so cute!

Shooketh

The only worry is the faces looks much like adults .

Cinderelabaiana

they are crawling OMG finally babies not being objects thank uuu

Sofia

love the crawling and that babies are interactive ...but yeah the faces are giving renaissance painting if you know what im saying.

Hannah Moody-Goo

I love how different the size between baby and toddler is!

Anabelle

OMG OMG ! I can't wait, so cute ♥

ZLoves212

Really loving the idea of a gradual growth! That'd be so cool! You guys are doing a great job!!! 💕💕

Lirissa Hardy

Can't wait for the game to come cause babies and toddlers look awesome. :D

Nathalie Carluccio

Great work, I just wanted to cuddle with them 🥰🥰🥰

Maiden Minnesota

Gotta agree: Babies and toddlers aren't "baby" enough. Too much of an adult look on a small body.

Jupiter La'Midge

I'd like if we could see what they'd look like with less prominent eyelashes + eyelids. I feel like that could help irt everyone's comments about their faces. Maybe spacing the eyes out slightly more and scaling them up a bit would work too, but that might just be a matter of different taste-I think I'd prefer them to fit with the art style over being overly cutesy! **Also editing to agree with the earlier comment about moving the nose up!!
