The lads dare to speak about Christ in the classroom and face the wrath of Ray Wise as they cover Harold Cronk’s 2016 evangelical propaganda film: God’s Not Dead 2. Topics include the horrendous filmmaking, the deeply-flawed rhetoric, and what we can learn about the future of America from a film that posits a world in which the masses will be subjugated by the most annoying people alive.

Another missed opportunity to invite Maggie Mae Fish to guest host?

Can’t wait for God’s not dead 6: in the hood

Crawling out of my skin with cringe at the Acting in every clip from the film. I've genuinely had to pause this and do something else several times and I'm not even half way through the podcast.

Dammit, you guys weren't supposed to notice the Catholic take over soo early....

I was disappointed to realize that his wasn't the Return of Burpo. In my defense, all these movies' titles sound exactly the same. God's Not Dead 2: Tribulation Force

You guys should watch PK and OMG two Hindi movies about religion in an Indian context. And are actually interesting movies

"You who are now hungry, are blessed, because you will be filled" GOKU???

I think you guys are actually the knowledge fight of Broadway

The "waving through a window" overlay was crazy I laughed so hard I missed my turn driving downtown. Also, I apparently don't know what's good music and what's bad music bc I was willing to give it a shot 😭

I've always wondered what someone doing an impression of Matthew McConaughey doing an impression of Patrick Warburton would sound like.

/come and along and listen to/ The knowledge fight of broadway/ Hear riffs and the inscrutable bits we do/ Leather bar and horse corner/

it's unfair to call Bremerton a godless hellhole: the waterfront is very nice and theres a ramen place that I like. East Bremerton, on the other hand, is definitely a blighted hellscape.

can i just say that due to the election + a statistically absurd convergence of other unfortunate Personal Events, i've been shambling from one emotional meltdown to the next all week, and that little bit you stuck on the beginning of this episode was the first thing to really part the clouds for me a bit. thank you for that. and also for Kronk goofs

You should treat yourselves to some moral Orel after having to watch this movie.

This movie sounds INTOLERABLE and just so endlessly pleased with itself. 12 out of 7 on the Kill James Bond smarm scale.

I'm only a little way in but I had to pause and comment that "buzzer beater conversion" made me honk like a goose

Chinese Martin gets the filial piety slapped back into him.

If you're looking for more God's not Dead runoff a fun one is Assassin 33 AD. It's the movie where Muslim Terrorists takeover a Time Travel facility in order to go back in time to kill Jesus before He can be crucified, and the heroes have to go also go back in time to ensure His scheduled death.

Crispined Glover Potato Snacks

Additionally, for a less fun but more distressing watch, I recommend Voiceless. This is the movie where a Gulf War 2 veteran becomes increasingly obsessed with a women's health clinic across the street from the church he works at, until he saves a woman through violence. It's basically Stupid Taxi Driver where Travis is uncritically thought by the film makers to be completely correct.

Crispined Glover Potato Snacks

Finally, for the most facebooked one of these shit movies I watch while high, I recommend Old Fashioned. It's basically Fifty Shades of Evangelical Chastity. The most annoying part of it is that the Christianity Gray lead is both treated as completely right and correct by the filmmakers, and is the filmmaker themself. He wrote and directed the thing.

Crispined Glover Potato Snacks

Oh yeah. I forgot about War Room. War Room is basically a Tyler Perry movie about Christianity. Now I know that sounds like a tautology, but I assure you that War Room is incompetent in a way that Tyler Perry would be Alan Smithee if he made this. Fun watch while high.

Wait so with voiceless you mean like this woman is going in for an abortion and this obsessive would be terrorist like does some navy seal shit to kidnap this woman before she goes through with it and abducts her? And the movie is like "damn this is the lengths you have to go too to defend the lives of those yet to be so you should do that?"

Jimmy McMillan

For some reason the idea of God 'living on the inside roaring like a lion' makes me laugh. "It is I the Lord your God! I'm in your gallbladder. RrroOAARRR!!! Now go complain about tuck friendly swimsuits at Target."

Gorbant

I left the podcast playing when I left the room, and when I came back in you were still arguing about the appropriateness of using Pretty Little Liars as an indication of mendacity. This is why I am a patron.

Crispined Glover Potato Snacks

More like this woman is being physically forced by her violently abusive partner to get an abortion and when she resists said abortion more than said partner is is willing to tolerate he pulls a gun on this woman and our Travis Bickle Hero intervenes and shoots and kills said partner. This movie is vile.

Thanks for the pep talk Boshua, looking forward to 4 and then 1000 years of TWOAPW

I’ve been thinking all day about the line “every 4th grader knows the phrase separation of church and state” no I don’t think they do

Every time you expose me to this absolute horseshit, I wish I could oppress American Evangelicals for real.

“How many of you are fans of Wi-Fi?” Sounds like something the lads would say as a bit, but it’s part of something serious that this person was trying to say in the sermon. Edit: this movie is unrealistic because lot of teachers who genuinely like their jobs and care about their students complain about it in the way the teachers in this movie do.

PS: when I was in college, I wrote a play with a character who was supposed to be a jerk. He was a lawyer (not that all lawyers are bad, but some of them can definitely be.) Anyway, I don’t really know anything about the law, so I was trying to put lawyer sounding jargon in there. I said some thing about attorney client privilege because the Mueller report was all over the news at the time. All this is to say that I will have to go back and edit the play just to give him the line” all my descendants become my defendants in the courtroom of success” I’ll credit you in the script !

Wilko

I just wanted to say thank you. Your work is always enjoyable & interesting, but sometimes it's more than that. Episodes like this one, despite the un-fun topic, really brighten my day and make everything seem a bit ... lighter. And that is not a small matter in times like these. So... thank you! ❤️

This podcast has permanently altered my brain chemistry. Every time there’s a plot point about Christians being persecuted I just hear Lev Novak’s voice saying “[they’ll be put] to DEATH? Grow up!”
