Well... that's a weird choice by Patreon to make the like and comment bubbles already filled in with a color so it's hard to tell if I've actually liked it or not... but.. I do like it!

The new update has one of the worst most counterintuitive UIs I've ever seen that it's actually frankly impressive. It almost feels avant garde, or like a psychological experiment.

I really like how you can’t unfollow on the app anymore and have to go to the website! It also doesn’t differentiate between following and subscribing, which is contributing to the feed clutter.

Ahh! Well that makes sense! I thought it was the horrible new Patreon re-design. Patreon sent out an email announcing the chat. No worries, you don’t have to open it if you don’t want to! I just adore all of your work and want to see it alllll!

pls i was like literally the most basic UX rules is like don’t make extra clicks and shit where you don’t need them. like truly patreon was fine how it was and they def coulda added chat if they wanted with out doing all of this *gestures wildly*

And now my inbox is getting emails every time someone sends a message in the Patreon chat. But it doesn't include the message of the chat. It just tells me that if I want to read it, I have to install the app on my phone. These people can't manage to make their website work correctly. I am NOT putting an app they are putting out on my phone.

To my knowledge, I have never signed up for chat room. And I am getting email alerts when the chat room does things. I think there have been 2 so far. It might have been the alerts that you set up the chats. As I couldn't read the content, I have no idea.

so only 2 emails for the 2 rooms i set up and nothing else? no emails for messages sent in the chat? that's my biggest concern is people being spammed for actual chat messages

Is the chat officially up and running? On my homepage I can see little chat previews that look like they’re from today, but if I try to join it just keeps telling me ‘something’s gone wrong’ or ‘could not view chat’.

To my knowledge, it was just the first two. I'll pay more attention and let you know if it's more than that. But.. being unable to see the content of any of the emails other than them just telling me to get the app, I won't know if they are new chats or chats in a chat. Wheee. I can't find any settings anywhere that let me opt in or out of chat stuff through the PC website.

Browser-based patreon seems mostly unaffected, for now. This travel-montage series of pages is doing a lot of worldbuilding heavy lifting without a lot of text, and i am here for it.

apparently the chat is an app only feature. i went back to the “welcome to the new patreon” email and they are like chat available exclusively in the new app which is ridiculous

O.M.F.G what were they thinking when they did this update and pre-shaded the like button in a gray, and when you like it it has this subtle change in colour, so you have to look twice to work out whether you liked this post or not. I mean, talking about overkill of such a simple function.
