Spooky Season
The next update will be for v0.2 of Last Summer around the end of October. Aiming for October 28. v0.3 of Caprini BP should follow soon after but it's hard to tell this early.
Status of the Current Twine/Sugarcube Template
Last post I mentioned getting kind of comfy with the Twine/Sugarcube template I'm using for Caprini BP... I made more updates this week and I'll be applying it to Last Summer.
It's slowly morphing into an RPG / VN hybrid template. One of the things that has always bothered me is the "shape" of the story. Do I make it just a branching VN? Make it explorable? What even IS a gameplay loop?!
It's also kind of funny how my code influences lore and vice versa. For Planet Caprini, I didn't want to program a day/night cycle so I made the planet tidally locked (one side always faces the red dwarf)... actually this is realistic for a close orbiting planet near a red dwarf. As for how the lit side stays cool... more on that another day.
I took down the Caprini comics just temporarily, not that it matters, looks like it's been pirated pretty thoroughly by now. I don't mind, though. Bound to happen.
Timelines
I'm falling into a pretty consistent 7 week schedule. Animation is still the bottleneck and by far the most time consuming part, easily taking up 4-5 weeks of the whole process. I'm seriously tempted to reduce the animation somewhat for one or two patches just so I can catch up the explorable areas and further the plot.
One thing's for sure, though. I WILL finish a damn game !!! >:( I think I can easily get Last Summer and Caprini Breeding Program both to v0.4/v0.5 by the end of the year, and one of them to a full v1.0 by early next year. Absolutely no more new projects! Having two active games is nice (for my unfocused brain) because I can flip back and forth to keep things fresh.
Plus, they now share the same "engine", so updates to one always help the other.
Next Month & Expectations
Thank you again to all my patrons :)
Expect a large update / overhaul to Last Summer, and some continued work on Caprini BP in parallel. This month, I'm going to try and shorten the development cycle as much as I can to see what I can actually do in one month if I focus and manage time correctly. We'll see.
