These kids don't need their own individuality just yet, they're still kids. It was the same in Naruto. Shikamaru was the same as his father Shikaku, same with Choji and his father Choza, Ino and her father Inoichi. Sasuke wanted to be like Itachi all his childhood. It's what they do. People hate when they're the same and when they're different, Boruto doesn't wanna be like Naruto and people hate him for his lack of ambition. Sarada is the only character I feel like people universally like or at least don't hate

I just realized anime is so much different than its manga. In manga the chunin exam ends with boruto and shikadai’s fight and Naruto find out that he’s cheating but in anime, we saw Shinki vs Boruto and 2-3 different matches as well. WTF Studio perriot just ruined it. And then I watched the movie which is exactly same as manga covering the first 10 chapters (first arc) as shown in manga. Can somebody explain why the studio did that. Almost ruined Bleach, 10 years of gap, 5 years of Black clover. I have a bad feeling they will ruin TBV.
