Chapter 1- Death and Rebirth
"It seems my work ends here, Naruto. I believe you can bring true peace."
He recalled the words of his bitter enemy, assailant, and sibling-student as he placed the pure white bouquet of paper roses down on the rocky grave. A single book laid beside it labeled: 'Tales of a Gutsy Shinobi,' as well as the kanji for 'master' was carved into the gravestone.
"Just you watch, Sensei…" he prayed, his words seemed to only break out in a whisper. His body ached with a mighty fire as if he had run nearly a thousand marathons, even still he trudged forwards, back to the hidden leaf village, back to his home. Using the nearby tree stumps and branches as a third leg, sweat marred his brow, flowing down the sides of his face like a mighty river.
His body wouldn't show it— not with the Kyuubi's healing— but he had been hit far too many times than he could count. Battling an Akatsuki member would do that to you, especially if said S-class ninja was also the leader of said organization.
He had been a Rinnegan user— the coveted sacred eyes of the Sage of Six Paths—able to control the elements on a whim, manifest strong gravitational fields, construct moons, and many more. He had truly been a challenging opponent, able to devastate the entirety of the Leaf village in a mere instant. And honestly, if it hadn't been for the immense knowledge from his master, as well as the rigorous training of his forefathers as a toad sage, he would not have been able to overcome the man who called himself Pein.
His sibling-student known as Nagato Uzumaki, had hunted the tailed beasts, monstrous and immensely powerful demons— just like the one that had been sealed within him, the Kyuubi no Yoko. But he had also been a student of his master, Jiraya of the Densetsu no Sanin, and the greatest man he knew, he had been the one to kill him as well.
Truthfully, and if Naruto were being honest, he wanted to kill Nagato as well, he wanted to so badly, and not just for Jiraiya, for Kakashi-sensei, and for his home. He wanted to so badly, but in the end he couldn't. He hadn't been able to avenge his friends and family, and in his moment of weakness Nagato spoke. H spoke just like his master, lecturing him about the necessity of peace and the failure of war. The nature of humanity, and his key to fixing this broken shinobi system and the endless cycle of hatred the world propagated.
Nagato was wrong.
But when he'd inquired about his solution, he failed to give him one. Instead, and in the light of his weakness, another of his friends had to die, Hinata Hyuuga, a beautiful woman who loved him. He saw red and unleashed the Kyuubi, but in light of that, he gained clarity and was visited by the ghost of his father. He helped him.
And from then on Naruto pledged to end the cycle of hatred.
He defeated Pein, it wasn't easy, and the battle had been far too close than he would've hoped, and had he been a few seconds slower the tides would have surely shifted. But he won, he faced Nagato, and gave him his answer.
And against all miracles, Nagato decided to put his faith in him, atoning for his previous sins and sacrificed his life to save all those he'd wronged in his journey— in the leaf village that is… sadly, Jiraiya hadn't been as lucky.
He entrusted Naruto with his and Jiraya's dream, to bring a peaceful world to their broken shinobi nation…
Sadly, after his fight with Nagato, he didn't know how to feel. Or that was to say, he couldn't feel anything. His body felt weak, so very weak like he'd held the weight of the world on his shoulders, his breath was labored, as he tried to greedily take in as much oxygen as he could muster.
He couldn't help it, he collapsed…
He didn't know when, but he found himself on the warm shoulders of his sensei, Kakashi Hatake, a white-haired lazy man with only a single eye showing wearing a face mask. Even then he couldn't feel his heat.
Everything felt cold, oh so cold.
"Stay strong, Naruto. Everything is going to be okay…"
He heard someone mutter, but he couldn't exactly hear who it was, he felt tired, so very tired. He wanted to go to sleep for… 5? Ten more minutes? Was that so much to ask? You'd think saving the village would at least give you some room for a little shut-eye.
"Medic! We need a Medic!"
Someone shouted, a voice he recognized, he knew her. Right now, he could picture the diligent face of his teammate— and not-so-secret-crush— Sakura Haruno running up to the scene. Her short bubble-gum pink hair framed her face as those remarkable emerald-green eyes stared out at her patients, trying to gauge what exactly was wrong with them and formulate the exact procedure they would need for recovery. She was book smart like that, able to memorize and recite entire textbooks when needed, she would make such a fine medical ninja someday, one even greeted than the likes of Tsunade Senju baa-chan herself. She would be able to heal the patient like it was nothing…
Wait a second? Patient? Nagato's jutsu should have revived and healed anyone that he had killed. Well, he supposed that not every jutsu was perfect, even ones as heavenly as the ones of the Rinnegan. And there were likely a fair bit of people who had been injured in Pein's assault as well. That was it, there were probably a lot of people who needed their injuries seen at the moment.
"It's okay, Naruto. Everything is going to be alright…"
He heard the voice of Sakura say, his teammate, projecting into his ear quietly. What was she talking about? Of course, everything was going to be okay, he'd just defeated the leader of the Akatsuki after all. Wasn't there some sort of patient she should be helping? He would be fine, he still had to become Hokage after all, he had to prove the villagers wrong about him, to respond to Hinata's confession. There were alot of things he still needed to do, he wasn't going to give up and die just yet… die?
What was all this talk about dying? Like he said, he was fine. He still had things to do, Nagato and his sensei Jiraiya had placed their dreams upon him.
He just felt a little tired, that was it, he would just get a few hours of sleep and all would be just fine.
"Naruto?... Naruto!"
He felt cold, so very cold.
And why was it getting so dark?
… So very dark.

It was bright, really bright, as the searing of the harsh heat burned through his retinas. Where was he? What had happened? Was Kakashi-sensei okay? Was Hinata? What about Sakura and the rest of Konoha? Did they make it out okay? Honestly, he could not remember much since his talk with Nagato.
He must have passed out after that.
Not much of a surprise, battling an Akatsuki member did that to you, and sage mode was taxing on the body, especially since he'd practically rushed his training through it. But still, he'd kind of hoped he would have made it out long enough to check on the rest of the villagers and see how they were doing, they did just fight practically a god themselves for his well-being.
Nevertheless, he supposed it wasn't anything he could change now. Yeah, knowing everyone else he was probably in the hospital by now— had it not been destroyed that is– or some sort of makeshift medical tent. That was probably why it was so bright, iridescent light bulbs were a staple in any place within the medical profession. Even if it was a shack in the middle of nowhere that held an underground doctor you could expect to find them. It infuriated him in a way, especially since he always hated hospitals.
Even so, he would probably come to expect Tsunade— if she was alright that is— or Shizune at his care, or maybe Sakura, if she stepped up to it. Konoha probably needed all sorts of help during this trying time, and he knew that Sakura would be more than willing to help. He felt for his surroundings, besides the much too annoying light behind his eyelids he felt wet, wet, and cold.
It was strange, like a leak in the ceiling had splashed onto him after it rained and he was no medical expect but he thought such an occurrence wasn't quite sanitary for recovering patients— leave it to Granny Tsunade to give him the shotty space when he needed it, that was just like her. The inspectors would have a field day after this, of course, that was assuming they hadn't seen the rest of Konoha, crater and all.
He found breathing difficult, maybe he had been hurt worse than he'd anticipated. Perhaps a broken or burst lung had happened during his skirmish, he wasn't paying attention. And with all the adrenaline being pumped into him his whole body could have been ripped to shreds and he wouldn't have noticed.
He still tried to fill oxygen within his lungs, though, even if it was still challenging, and very difficult. What had Sakura taught him about this again? Think of it like a game, force it, challenge it, and overcome it. Expand your diaphragm and your lungs will follow, and with the rising of your chest air begins to flow through, as you then release it, push it back down, and repeat.
One. Two. One. Two. One. Two.
And just like that he opened his eyes, and saw for the first time, and with the burning of his irises he looked around, confused. Describing a sight he wasn't quite expecting. It was a room, a very large and dark one with ornate wallpaper, vivid paintings, and very decorative wooden flourishing that would have made the hyuga's green with envy. Not only that but there were a set of people as well.
The first was a man—handsome to be sure— with long hair the color of crimson, almost like that of blood, framing his head. He had a small beard at the corner of his chin, with strange protrusions jumping at the corners of each of his lips. His clothes were simple, if a bit expensive looking, even as one raised as the dirtiest of dirt poor he could tell it was crafted out of some of the finest fabrics he had ever seen. Like that of the daimyos, only less funny-looking. He had this aura of nobility, and regality, and overall, looked like a person he wouldn't ordinarily meet unless he was a client looking to hire a shinobi for protection or a job. But his body was toned, muscled, he could tell, to the point it would rival most chunin and even a few of the more active civilians. But the strangest thing about him was his eyes, the color of sea foam green, and they seemed to be sparkling with joy… at him.
The second was a woman, and if he were being honest with himself this was probably one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen, rivaling the likes of Tsunade Senju in that aspect. She was also as… well developed in the chest area as the Fifth Hokage as well. With short, oaky flaxen hair framing her heart-shaped face. Her skin was flawless, almost to an unordinary degree, with her violet eyes staring directly toward him, her cheeks flushed with exhaustion, as if she had just run a mile in the dead of night. His wife perhaps? He always knew royals liked marrying the most beautiful and prized woman around, and this woman was obviously so.
The third was a figure that was decidedly female, she had the aura of something that was not quite human. Her hair was stark white, like that of bone or snow, parted at both sides to show the sight of her very attractive face, with her skin being much the same. Her skin was very pale, almost to an unnatural degree— to the point one had to wonder if she had ever heard of the sun at all. With her eyes being just as ghastly, they were the color of scarlet, peering out of the dark and revealing their beauty. Her clothing was much less expensive, being only a red button-up shirt with a black ribbon bow, a white short skirt, and dark stockings.
They all had expressions of happiness, relief, and jubilation.
Overall, this hadn't quite been the people he was expecting, and as such he was only left confused. Why had Tsunade let these people in his medical room? Having no recollection of who they were.
"Congratulations, Zeoticus-sama, Venelana-sama, it's a boy~!" he heard the pale woman closest to him cry out. He didn't quite understand her words to make out the importance of them, no, what he was paying attention to was the language itself. It was foreign, obviously so, much different from the Elemental unionized language that had been established since the introduction of the daimyo system. Like some of the languages he'd heard the sailors speak in when they sometimes visited Konoha, or when he was on a mission to a port city near the coast. The strangest part? He could understand it entirely.
Everyone was staring down at him, and for some reason, from his perspective, they each looked massive in comparison.
"He's beautiful, what's his name?" He heard the pale woman say. Well, that was strange, although that wasn't to say he wasn't flattered, he had never been called handsome, much less beautiful, by such a pretty woman. But, if they were visiting him, they should have at least looked at his name on his medical file or something. Still, why would they visit a person in the hospital they didn't know the name of?
"Hmmm, Hmmm~" the brown-haired woman hummed out. "... Naruto."
The red-haired man spoke up. "Naruto? Isn't that a funny name? Why not a name like my father, surely Milicas would do better?" That was rude, he happened to really like his name, it was the same name from Jiraiya's book too.
"No, Naruto will do." Zeoticus tried to argue, but a single glance from his wife was enough to dissuade him.
Okay, Naruto had no idea what these people were talking about, why was he in such a strange—nice looking?- hospital, with a bunch of giants he didn't even know the name of. Seriously, he'd have to berate Tsunade's ear off when he saw her next. After saving the entire village you'd think he'd get a better welcome service. Honestly, he'd expected something like the entire village greeting him with open arms, and he'd receive a hug from Sakura-chan as everyone lifted him by their arms and…
"Well then, Naruto it is," Zeoticus concluded, "Now, come here boy, Daddy and Mommy want to see you~" he hollered, as his giant hands reached for the boy. What the hell was he doing? He was a grown—growing! Man, after all, he wouldn't be picked up like some sort of child or something. And what was the deal with him calling himself his 'Mommy' and 'Daddy'? He had a daddy— err… a dad and his name was Minato Namikaze. And— what was he?
'Huh?' He felt himself being picked up… and his mind went blank.
Who were these crazy people? Why were they here? Where was Tsunade-baa-chan and Kakashi-sensei? As a matter of fact, why was he here? And… and… why on earth was he being picked up like this?! He knew his rights! He wasn't allowed to be manhandled by these crazies! He was a Shinobi of Konohagakure after all.
Thinking on instinct, he did the only thing he could, preparing to throw a nasty punch at the man, he noticed one thing… his hand, it was smaller. Why was his hand smaller? Reaching up his other one, he found the same was with that as well, both of his hands were smaller. Like that of a toddler, or better yet… a newborn.
Suddenly, the pieces started to fall into place for him.
He was in a strange place, with nobody he once knew to be seen, with two people who appeared to be a couple, the woman flushed from exhaustion. The three gazed at him with untold affection even when he had never met them. The two calling themselves his mother and father, with the size of his body and especially his hands being greatly reduced as if he had just been born.
The last thing he remembered was talking to Nagato, his deep exhaustion, and then… darkness.
He might be slow on the uptake, but even he could see what had happened here.
He had died.
"Oh, he's reaching out for you~" Venelana cooed.
"Indeed, why don't you hold him, dear?" The man stated, placing Naruto in his arms.
The young boy did the only thing he could… he cried.
XXX
Months later.
Reincarnation.
It was a concept he had first heard about from the monks from the fire temple when they often passed into Konoha, staying in the small shrine on the mountain. He would often talk to them, they weren't from Konoha so they didn't discriminate against him for what he would later find out was because of his jinchuriki status. They taught him many things, how to read, how to write, and of course, the importance of life. He never killed within his lifetime, and while he wasn't totally on board with the ideas they posed he still carried on some of their ideals even when he was supposed to be a 'Cold-blooded shinobi.' It had been why he had never let a village stand within its tyranny, and why he wouldn't let evil go unpunished whenever he could help it.
The monks also told him of what they believed to happen after death, and how the soul would carry on without the body and new life would form. He didn't much believe in the concept at the time, but now he saw some merit in it.
After all, he was living proof of that.
His hair was red now, instead of the sunny-golden blonde he had once been used to having. It was fitting, in a strange turnabout way, as in his first life he'd hoped to have hair like his mother, and now he did. His eyes also changed, masking the deep ocean blue orbs he was used to he now had small speckles of green in his eyes as well, courtesy of his father as his irises were now a cool sea-foam green. Such adjustments had taken some time to get used to.
In the time since his apparent re-birth, Naruto has learned a great number of things. He was in a foreign land, with foreign people who did many foreign things. His name was Naruto, in much the same fashion as his old one, but instead of the surname Uzumaki, he had been given a new one: Gremory.
He also had a new father and mother as well, so at least in this life he hadn't been born an orphan on the streets, far from it. He had been born to a couple of nobels; his father, a kind but stern man; and his mother: a beautiful but compassionate woman named Venelana Gremory— with the maiden name of Bael. And from the moment he had met them, he could tell they meant well.
But the problem was that they weren't his parents.
Well, they were, he was all too familiar with the fact that they had given birth to him. That was the thing though, even if they had given birth to him, they weren't his real parents, that role always belonged to Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki. And even if Zeoticus Gremory and Venelana Bael were kind they would never fill that fact, even if he wanted them to.
He could never see them as such.
However, that didn't mean he was outright hostile or didn't care for them, far from it. He could see that the two were trying their best, and they did give him food and housing and all else that he could ask for, and given his first life it was all he could ask for.
Adjusting to this new life was also a bother, especially during his first few months of adjusting to being a newborn. First off, he had learned that having a young body wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. Losing control of your bowels, not being able to raise your head on your own, and the fact that all your limbs were shorter than the tip of your nose was just a few of the problems he had discovered— learning to poop in a diaper was always strange, and he couldn't help but look forward to the day that he would be able to use the toilet again. Additionally, being breastfed was probably the weirdest thing he had ever experienced, so much so that initially, he'd elected to opt out of every attempt Venelana tried. Unfortunately, he caved, deciding to bite the bullet, after realizing he wouldn't be able to obtain any nourishment otherwise.
Recently, he'd taken up the ability to crawl, although his feeble legs hadn't quite allowed him the ability to walk yet. Having the ability to move around made all the difference as he wasn't quite reliant on other people to move him around without actually knowing where he was going. From there on he was actually able to get an even firmer grasp on his situation. For starters, he'd learned his family was not just wealthy, they were loaded, to the point where even crawling around the mansion seemed to stretch on forever. There were also many servants he'd noticed, ones he hadn't even seen interact with him before.
Apart from this place's strange language— something he was still unsure of how he could understand—, he'd also learned that they also had their unique writing system, one that was different from that of what he was used to within the elemental nations. It had taken some time, but eventually, he had gotten used to the strange writing system they had here, and while he wasn't usually one to toot his own horn, he thought that was quite the achievement. Especially considering most kids only learned such skills by the young ages of 6, sometimes seven. And who knows, maybe it was because of his more adult— err… teenage mind—but in that aspect, he was somewhat a prodigy all things considered— wouldn't Sasuke be so jealous?
"Naruto-sama? Naruto-sama?" currently he was crawling through the mansion he had grown up in, trying to gain a bit of semblance to see how large the place actually was. And maybe it was the fact he wasn't even a fourth as tall as he was in his original body, but that was just unreasonably massive, to the point he would often wonder what the purpose of such an abode would require, it certainly wasn't to just live in. It was a habit of his shinobi training, he supposed, or maybe it was the fact that he just didn't like calling a place he was unfamiliar with his home. I had been why in his younger years he'd spent so long exploring the back alleys of Konoha, to the point he would be able to navigate the entire village with a blindfold if he really wanted– that was also the reason he'd been able to outmaneuver all the Chunin and Genin when he went on all those pranking sprees when he was younger.
"Is something wrong with Naruto, Irisviel?" he heard his mother's voice call out, questioningly.
"Ah, no, but it seems I've lost him," he heard another woman say bashfully. "Ever since he's gained the ability to crawl he's been quite the ninja, always on the move and I've kind of been unable to keep up sometimes."
Irisviel von Einzbern was another name he'd come to know during his new tenure within his new reality. She was a pure-hearted woman, of that he was certain, she had also been the white-haired inhuman figure he had spotted after his rebirth. She was close to his family, holding the position of a maid within his household, being his father's 'servant'- whatever that meant. And if he were being honest, she was probably the closest person he had in this new world. She was kind, she was beautiful, she put him first whenever things came down to it, and to top it all, the reason he cared for her so… she wasn't his 'mother'.
She didn't serve in the role to replace Kushina Uzumaki in that aspect, the greatest mother he could ever ask for. The woman risked her life to even give birth to him and gave it to him even when her chakra coils were destroyed because of the Kyuubi being ripped out of her.
It was for that reason, even if he didn't want to, that he couldn't quite see Venelana Gremory as his mother, even if she had been the one to give birth to him.
Making his way through the hall, being careful enough not to be spotted, he made his way to the other room. Seeing a window and its respective nook he realized this was the perfect opportunity to figure out exactly where he was. Having never been taken outside—whether that was because his parents were overprotective nobles or otherwise— he hadn't the faintest idea if he were in the Elemental Nations, the outer continents, or otherwise. If he could just take a look outside he would be able to differentiate the two, at least he thought so. Being Jiraya the Galant's leading apprentice did that to you, as you had to learn to travel and recognize where you were going depending on your surroundings alone. He had been to several places during missions and his time with Jiraiya, but he had heard about alot more. From his master's old tales or the monotonous stories of his clients to pass the time he had heard about many places, including places along the outer rim of the world. He learned to get the important details from his master, such details could save your life if you were in unfamiliar territory, like the land structure, the surrounding plant life or fauna, and even the temperature. Each place was unique, and learning just how so one would be able to gauge their location just by a single picture.
Having decided on his next course of action, he moved himself to the reading nook, using his arms to grip the top of it, as he attempted to lift himself. Moving his elbows on top as he lifted his admittedly small legs he realized this was becoming increasingly difficult— it was times like these he realized that he really missed his old body. With some effort, he was able to lift himself, deciding he would need to train his muscles when he gained control of his body and grew a little, he managed to get onto the window nook.
THUNK!
What he saw next immediately shocked him, so much so that he lost his balance and fell to the ground, hitting his head.
"Oh? Oh dear!" he heard a voice immediately sound from inside the room, not that he was paying much attention as pain instantly flooded his mind, to the point he could barely think of anything else. Irisviel, seeing Naruto's injured state immediately rushed to his side, picking him up, and nursing him in her arms. "Venelana-sama, it seems Naruto hurt himself trying to climb near the window!" the woman alerted her mistress.
"Well that isn't good, here, let mommy help you~" Venelana frowned, rushing towards the woman and taking the injured baby in her arms.
Even still, Naruto couldn't wrap his head around what he had seen, after climbing up the window nook her caught sight of the outdoors, a sight that immediately scared him. Sure, he had seen what he had been expecting, green trees and foliage, flowers that looked to be expensive and belonged to the Gremory estate as some sort of garden.
It had been what he hadn't been expecting that had caused him to fall…
"Honey! I came as soon as heard, what seems to be the problem?" The sound of his father's voice came rocketing out, as he rushed in the room.
"It's Naruto, he fell and hit himself pretty hard," Venelana stated, rocking the poor boy, he was breathing heavily as if he was distressed. "I think it scared him."
"I see, that is serious," Zeoticus frowned.
What had Naruto was something he had initially not noticed, but it was obvious now. All the plants and foliage had been what had been expected, what he hadn't expected, was for the night sky he had looked upon to not be the initial darkened blue or black he had seen countless times in his old life.
No, what he had seen was the night sky being entirely purple.
Not only that… there wasn't a star in the sky, and there was no moon.
The entire night sky had been changed from what he remembered, and it led to only one conclusion, something he immediately recognized but had never considered because of its sheer absurdity. He wasn't within his old world. No, his old world didn't have purple night skies with nothing in them. That led him to a single conclusion.
He wasn't just not within the elemental nations… but a new world entirely.
"Naruto, don't worry, your mom is going to make everything okay."
Instantly, his worldview changed, as his mother held out her hand to his head, a glowing energy resting within her palm. At first, he likened it to the med-nin's Mystical palm, it had reminded him of his old world, if only for a second. But that's when he saw something that had immediately shattered this view.
His mother had wings.
Bat wings, in fact, and it was only then he realized just how out of touch with this new world he was.
"Naruto, look at him, he's not even crying, such a strong young boy…" Irisviel noticed, his breath was increasing rapidly.
As Venelana began to heal him, caressing his tearless cheeks, " Yes, such a strong young devil indeed."
