So this is a four-part story/novella that has a (REALLY MILD) content warning in it, but only for the second half. The first half can be read as a stand-alone story that doesn't need to be followed up with the second half to make it complete. So I am not going to include the warning in the first part, since it has absolutely no bearing on it. That way, if you don't like what the warning is, you at least get half a story to read!

The last time I tried to have a warning for a story, everybody basically said "you didn't need to warn for that" which was probably true because it was equally mild, but it was actually part of the plot and was a spoiler in itself, which is also exactly true for this one. I can't warn for it and not completely spoil a huge element of the second half of the story, but I feel like it's something that at least needs a pre-disclosure. Though it's mild and more of a social norm violation than anything else, not everyone might not want to read about it.  But the first two parts don’t include it. There will be a big obvious note before the 3rd part, where the POV swaps and the warning would come in. (The parts are not numbered, they are names of US states, but the warning will still be obvious)

Now that THAT long  disclosure is out of the way, here's part one of four! This is a contemporary story, which I really only do as novellas/one-shots now. It's generally a silly idea, but I always enjoy weird and obscure situations where people might end up meeting each other.

Also! There's still this character Q&A going on this month!

I really like this! It's super fun, and I'm digging how much life both of these characters have! and I love roadtripping stuff so much--I have so many of my own fun memories of cross country road trips that reading about them is always great and nostalgic haha. The whole time I was reading this I'm really curious about who John is--for some reason I'm prepared to guess he's a cop, though I feel like I'm really pulling too much from the scene where he goes out and talks to the cop. But I'm also intrigued because damn, he drives an audi and he's pretty young! Who is he! Overall I really, really enjoyed this and I'm super looking forward to the next chapter!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Honestly I was pretty sure only one person had read it. I may not post all four parts since....interest seems super limited so I might only post the first half, which is fully self-contained though more interpretive as to if the ending is happy or not. I take so many road trips (though mostly the same road, over and over, up and down this giant giant state) that I play these kind of games a lot. My family used to take a lot of out of state roadtrips tho so a lot of this is based on memories of those~ Interesting guess about John haha :D There are reasons for all this stuff about him, most or all of which will be explained depending on how many parts of it I post. But definitely most of it, either way!

I initially read the first part back when you did a teaser and I am glad you expanded upon the story (yeah I'm late to the party haha). It's cute how they were flirting with one another while traversing the state. What will happen when they get closer to their destinations and can they grow this fling into an actual relationship since they both live in Cali?

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm hoping to get a second part up this month pretty soon. I'm debating whether to just post half the story and leave it more open-ended, or include the second half which is less interpretive but has sort of a 'content warning', even though it's super super super mild. I wasn't sure of the interest level in the story overall so it'll probably end up just being half of it that's posted.
