All right, finally new Tenebrism chapter! I know it's been an insanely long time since the last chapter (sorry about that!) , so even in this version I included a note that quickly summarizes what happened last time, which was kind of a 'cool off' chapter in terms of action so it was mostly info+backstory+personal stuff with Alan. This chapter is kind of long and will probably be split in the final version, but enjoy it all in one for now! We're finally nearing the end~

Tenebrism X

X. I spent another night on the couch, in my clothes, because I'd lay there like a paralyzed potato for so long after my shower of fucking revelations that I fell asleep there. When I woke up, hazily and for no real reason, it was dark in the room and outside the blinds.

That was intense. I like how Alan seems to be a more active participant. I also like how in-character Alan's reactions to Keyd are. I would have honestly been surprised if he was able to keep his feelings to himself.

Yep Alan is going to feel his feels all over the place, he's not good at hiding or controlling that sort of thing even if he tries. And yeah, he's gotten a lot more proactive and purposefully involved over the course of the story, going from being just a bystander to accidentally participating to outright jumping in from the start. Glad you enjoyed it!

Holy goodness! Alan, I'm so impressed with you for so many different reasons! This is so great. I loved how long it was and I'm so sad that it will be so long before I get more. This is one of my favorite stories and I just can't get enough. I hope Alan hasn't screwed anything up at the end! Jeebus. Loved it loved it!

I'm really glad you enjoyed it! It shouldn't be /too/ long for the next part, there's only 1 or 2 more chapters depending on how it long it ends up, and my goal to is have this rewrite finished by Alan's birthday which is April 8th. So hopefully not too much of a wait before the next chapter, although other things will probably update as well before then. :)

I'm a bit late to the party with commenting as usual, but hey. I really like how in this version Alan seems to have spent more time working out and coming to terms with his feels for Keyd before acting on them. If I remember correctly, there wasn't as much of that in the original. It also feels like there's a lot more action this time, which is great, and the fight scenes you write are always exciting, engaging, and well described. :)

Teromain

Yeah, I really wanted to improve on that in the rewrites; the original had almost none of the 'Alan actually having a crush and just not realizing it' thing, but hopefully in the rewrites it's much clearer to people reading, and so when HE gets it finally and then acts on it it's less completely out of nowhere. And makes more sense. And I'm glad you like the fight scenes! Those are always pretty hard to get right. :)

Hah Wait until Alan finds out why Law is such a DB to him. This chapter was great. So much happened I am not sure what to focus on first. In the original version, didn't Alan pull energy out of Ahieel and somehow convert it to replace Keyd's wing, which Ahieel tore off? I definitely liked this version's account better. The fight was more believable, like Alan was doing whatever it took to survive, and Alan wasn't an instant-presto badass. The kiss was sweet.. and tbh I can't remember what happened the first go around and how it transpired. So Keyd's shock and lack of response, it was totally outclassed by Alan's awkwardness. Also, the dual shields.. cute. And thank you Alan, for getting upset by people gawking and treating Rysa like a commodity and not a real person.

Teromain

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Actually most of the stuff with the wings happens in the second book, but you're right about the events that happened. That's all been completely removed from the rewrites and will be from the second book too, just because it was misleading to a lot of people about what Alan's actually capable of. What he learns in terms of magic is really geared towards survival and not fighting, as it wouldn't make sense for him to suddenly be a really competent soldier. The alternate scene for this chapter is a lot more like the kiss from the original drafts, but this awkward bumbling version is a lot more fitting! Glad you liked it.
