Walk Without Rhythm: Part II

So here we go with Vaun's POV! His half of this story is probably a little more sober than Saul's because things are more real and immediate to him, and he's a little more mature about certain things by now, so his outlook is a tiiiny bit less exuberant than usual.

There's actually some foreshadowing/mentions of a few things that will happen before the sequel in this; they're all offhanded comments by Vaun or Saul but some come true or are things that become issues. The sequel takes place about 8-9 years later so obviously lots of stuff happens in that timespan. I'll mention some of it in the commentary version, but I'll warn for spoilers.

I just realized I haven't read at least 3 or 4 other chapters of things you've posted. I may need some more days off to catch up. :) As for this story, all I can say in reply to Saul's answer at the end is, that is all Vaun really needs. It was rather painful to read about how little Vaun's parents care about him as their son. No one deserves to go through life essentially invisible as an individual. I know Vaun and Saul will figure it all out together. Not being in school together won't kill their relationship. They are honest and open with one another (aside from Vaun's rather large omission that wasn't quite a lie), so they can work through any problems that come up along the way. I am sure there will be plenty since it's not always going to be sunshine and rainbows. Thanks for the short story! :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! The commentary version will go more into Vaun and his parents and what's kind of sitting beneath all these interactions they've had and how it's built up to be this way (since it wasn't always, but they have always been pretty absent and uninvolved parents). But a lot of the way Vaun acts is tied to the way his parents have treated him, basically trying to get any kind of attention from them...good or bad. But he didn't want to involve another person in that kind of attention-seeking behavior that he's aware he does, hence not telling them about Saul. Vaun and Saul will definitely figure things out for the immediate future. The sequel, since it takes place so many years later, is actually split between present day and a timeline of in-order flashbacks showing how they got to the 'present day' situation I'm actually pretty sure nobody will like the sequel, but it'll eventually get posted! Probably once the rewrites for the first story are done.

I love how Vaun's and Saul's relationship has matured and how they are so connected to each other. Love love them. You are making me very nervous with your comments about the sequel! To quote Sloane "... don't fight with him. I'll be so bummed." I have a feeling my heart will be hurting...

I'm glad you enjoyed it! The sequel is definitely much different in tone from the original story, though this second one-shot is leading into a little more. The sequel is still at its core about Saul and Vaun's relationship with each other, it's just very different from what people will expect, I'm sure. The original story and to some extent the one-shots were about their college life/relationship, which is very removed from the real world, and the sequel is about them out in the real world and how different that is.

Well, I like Vaun's mother slightly more but she still needs to work on her mothering skills. So glad he has Saul! Can't wait for more Vaun & Saul!!!

Vaun's mom is slightly more likeable, she's had an unhappy life she's had little control over and so she's probably way more sympathetic than his dad is. Definitely has no maternal instincts though, and she knows it. Glad you enjoyed reading!

aaah so glad you sent me the link and now I'm a petreon! yay! and I get all this cool stuff..... I'll show it some love properly later, but all I can think right now reading the comments and clues, is..... you're slightlyyyy freaking me out that Vaun and Sual are not getting their happily ever after ( or the realistic version of that anyway) . I mean, I have a feeling they may take a break or something, but when it's all said and done they work things out. Right? RIGHT? because you're 'they'll work things out in the immediate future' is not very reassuring... my poor babies. ooh the sequel is eight years down the line?! I thought for some reason it was more like four. But I like it.

I'm glad you like all the extra stuff! :) Well, the sequel still IS completely about Vaun and Saul and their relationship. I really don't want to spoil things too badly, but it's two alternating chronological timelines, one in the past (in the years following the main story and the one-shots) from Vaun's POV and one in the present (which will be about 2013-2014 for them) from Saul's POV, but Vaun is also there in that part. Between the 'flashbacks' and present timelines will be about five years in which nothing is 'covered', while the story is set about 7-8 years in the future. It's really a contrast between college life and real life, which are super different, and so the first story was this safe removed little college life bubble (which Vaun was leaving at the end of the second one-shot, which was why the tone was a bit more serious) and the sequel is real life for both of them. It definitely won't be like the first one, BUT the ending will not be upsetting. I know people may not like what's going on in it at first, so I feel okay with spoiling that at least :)
