I'm Just Zaiyan

First one here! And wow, this episode wow

Harvey

MORE!!!!!!!

BAKUGOAT

Love zekes character, he genuinely loves eren, with what he said last episode "i wont abandon you now, im going to save the world, and im doing it WITH YOU" HE DOESNT WANNA LEAVE HIS BROTHER BEHIND

Andreas Plesa

Nooo, don't sleep! I need answers :)

BAKUGOAT

EXPLANATION- Grisha could see zeke THROUGH erens prospective, because the Attack Titan (which eren and grisha have/had) can see the memories of FUTURE Attack Titan wielders. Hence the title, Memories from the future So in that moment, Grisha saw Zeke in front of him, because Eren saw Zeke in front of Grisha.

Josh Morris

Oh this is amazing to watch, because we all had the same drooling face when we watched it for the first time

Eli

seeing that the posted video is 10 minutes longer than the ep is so funny but understandable!

Eli

Ok so the logic of memory is this: The final holder of Attack Titan can selectively show memories of Final’s past to the previous holder’s from whoms perspective that is still in future. But how they understand what will happen in that future is decided by the Final holder of the Attacking Titan because bro can basically cut the film however he wants to. About Grisha… SO Grisha saw Zeke because Eren was with him. To Eren that became a memory then he showed that memory to Grisha using AT which blended reality and Eren’s futute perspective for Grisha making it like a live translation of the future to the present. Its a paradox basically. Eren got the Founder because of Grisha, but Grisha got it, because Zeke delivered Grisha to Eren via Founder, and because of that Eren made himself the Founder via Grisha, influencing him. yeah….

Sultan Solte

The father can see zeck through eren’s memorise which are on making that moment so in other words he can see zeck through eren’s eyes 👀

Fukkyu Bisch

ALEX, YOU NEED TO, AND i IMPLORE YOU, TO WATCH THE AOT OVAS, ESPECIALLY NO REGRETS. ANYONE WHO LIKES OR ADMIRES LEVI NEEDS TO WATCH NO REGRETS, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND HIS MOTIVATIONS MUCH BETTER.

Fr07en

Man I wish I could watch this for the first time again. This episode is still to this day the craziest plot twist I’ve ever witnessed, as it not only changes everything going forward but also changes everything that came before it as well.

Andres Marquez

This somehow made me feel bad for grisha

X HYDRA X

Compare the title of Episode 21 with the title of Episode 1 of the whole show

X HYDRA X

HOLY SHIT. This is probably the craziest mindfuck in all of fiction.

Rachel Trainor

Grisha is able to interact with Zeke because Eren is also standing there watching. He’s seen the same moment through Eren’s eyes.

Caleb Boast

Eren has the founder and the attack titan so when he kissed historia (who has royal blood) on the hand last season. In doing so he was able to see the future and come up with the plan to meet zeke and use him because he wasn’t influenced by the kings passive ideology and manipulate his dad to kill the royal family and take the founder and give it to him. Eren has been pulling the strings since episode one if you rewatch the first part of episode one Eren “wakes up from a long dream”.

Kungor

Eren be like: Hey Zeke, you thought Grisha was the bad one? Allow me to reintroduce myself.

Rachel Trainor

There was a specific moment we’ve already seen when we saw Eren’s face the moment that he realized how the show AOT ends

Indifferent Denji

This episode is just Zeke finding out his brother has always been a threat to society

Fr07en

To TLDR Eren basically uses the Attack Titans ability (to send memories of the future to past holders) to live broadcast his view to Grisha in those moments. That’s also why Eren was so shocked the first time Grisha saw Zeke, it was the first time he tested the “broadcast,” and so his reaction wasn’t confusion like Zeke, but rather like “holy shit it actually worked.”

Jackson Meyers

Eren likely saw his future when kissing Historia's hand, since it shows that scene after he convinces Grisha. It explains why his face was scared in that moment, seeing himself as the one to technically kill that whole family.

liron tzur

grisha was able to see zeke because as the attack titan he has access to some memories of future attack titans so when eren and zeke was traveling his memories they became a new memory to them and they somehow met there

Fr07en

Sorry for the truckload of comments but there’s just so much to dissect from this episode. One detail that you kind of grasped the edge of but didn’t reach fully was the reason for the Attack Titans rebellious nature. We know Eren has always been this way, and so hearing from Kruger that the AT has always resisted authority makes sense to us, we just assume that it either is passed to those with that rebellious personality or it alters the individual who possesses it to be rebellious. However we learn from this episode that’s not the case. The Attack Titan didn’t cause Eren to be rebellious, EREN CAUSED THE ATTACK TITAN to be rebellious throughout all time leading up to this moment. Since current holders of the AT can send their memories (and inherited memories from past holders) back to past holders, Eren selectively sent memories to every previous iteration of the AT to get to this point, to manipulate them into acting accordingly with how he needed them to, and “bucking authority.” In a way, throughout the entire 2000 year history of the Titans, the Attack Titan is, and always has been, Eren Yeager.

liron tzur

as was shown in this episode eren saw the future when he kissed historias hand which now makes his face he made make more sense

WEEZY

Youtube missing out lmao. I recommend watching this episode again in sub, So good. Can do it on you're own time if its easier but you should check it out.

Tristan Caby

The real villain is finally revealed. 🤣

Neeraj Kulkarni

im so proud of alex, he legit nailed everything. When i watched for the fist time i had to rewatch twice bc i was so confused😭

Cohen Boak

WAIT. So you’re telling me that when Eren kissed Historia’s hand in Season 3, he got a glimpse of everything that happened with Grisha and the Reiss family? Holy shit, that scene just hit me like a truck.

Riley Cabral

Every titan has the ability to see past memories not just the founding titan. After kissing Historia's hand, Eren is shown Grishas memory of what actually happened in the cave and sees himself there from the future from the perspective of Grisha. Touching Historia also opens him up to his own memories from the future. He basically becomes omniscient in the blink of an eye and knows everything that is going to happen going forward. We see Erens demeanor change after the ceremony and now we know why. Having the ability to see the future sounds like a good idea in theory but it realistically is very dangerous for one's psyche. Eren is such an interesting character and I'm excited too see you finish the series.

Niko

dude you are the smartest reactor ive ever seen lol I've genuinely never seen anyone put this show together while watching it better then you are right now

Ishi

WE TOLD YOU, YOU WEREN'T READY FOR THE NEXT 4 EPISODES! LOL also yes keep pausing if needed and even go backwards if you need we enjoy that and need you to pay ATTENTION!

Michael

I still am gonna comment asking you to at least once watch the outro for this part of the season as I think it’s the most beautiful outro of the entire series

Riley Cabral

The ability for the attack titan to see the future is hinted at a little bit before the the reveal. The main example and possibly the only example is when Eren Krueger was talking to Grishas on top of the wall and he mentioned saving Mikasa and Armin. He literally says "who's memories are those" which implies that's it's from the future, no really had a clue what that actually meant at the time but it definitely caught the viewers attention.

Bilge Radić

People correct me if I’m wrong Eren couldn’t see the future the entire time. It wasn’t untill he kissed historias hand that all the memories started flooding in

NevoDaSlowPoke

this my first watch through... wtf is going on

Quinn

Eren only knows his future because he went through grisha’s memories of himself to see his own future. Also this happened when he kissed historias hand in the finale of season 3

Vicente Castro Gomez

There's something in the episode that went unnoticed, and I don't think anyone mentioned it in the comments. Alex, do you remember the moment in season 3 when Eren kisses Historia's hand and freezes with a terrifying expression? At THAT PRECISE MOMENT, Eren accessed his father's memories and saw what we just saw. That is, back in season three, years earlier, through his father's memories, Eren saw HIMSELF AS AN ADULT pressuring his father. This was implied in this very episode by showing Eren kissing a hand right after Grisha murders the Reiss family. So, from that precise moment years ago, Eren already knew how everything was going to unfold.

avada

Peak fiction is occuring my friend

Emmy

alex pls release the other two

pg.0314

Eren was livestreaming his point of view to Grisha (Attack Titan Special Ability) while in the memories. This was all only possible because Zeke used the power of the founding titan to bring Eren inside those memories

Lukas Weimar

Oh wow this is my fifth watch and I never made that connection, really cool

arian

this is my 3rd watch, and literally minutes before i opened up the comments i put that together… crazy writing ✍️

arian

fucking insane🙏🙏

Hiren Bhavsar

Eren can’t see the future the whole show. He only was able to see the future after he kisses Historia’s hand at the end of season 3.

Ardi

Zeke tok Eren on a stroll through Grisha's memory in hopes of convincing Eren, but then in the basement Eren finally understood his true power. Zeke was standing infront of Grisha while Eren was standing behind Grisha. Grisha can see Zeke through Eren's eyes from the future. If you watch the episode again, notice where Grisha is looking and where Eren is standing. There is more to this, but I'll let you finish the show before we go into that.

Ardi

Go back and see Eren's reaction

Tay Tay

I think it's heavily implied Eren subconsciously saw glimpses of the future in his dreams as early as episode 1! He just wasn't able to remember them until he came into direct contact with Historia.

Derpydino 312

never say sorry for going back so you can understand the scene, i would actually recommend you do that if you don't understand something it makes it better for you and us as you catch on to things. keep up the good work!

DropBear

So Eren = Paul Atreides? Lisan Al-Ghaib 🙌🙌

DropBear

Basically prescience/Paul Atreides from Dune but anime style haha, if that helps clear anything up for people that have also seen Dune

DropBear

Fkn love that scene

DropBear

The simplest TLDR is this: imagine someone showing you a future that you want and saying “do exactly these things and this future will happen”. And then you just follow and do those things. You’re basically being shown a gaming walk through in your brain and you just follow and make sure to check all the boxes, and then boom, desired future achieved. This “walk through” guide thing (the memories) activated when Eren kissed Historia’s hand in S3, hence his reaction in that scene. What’s curious is I wonder what his reasoning for doing so is (at this point in the show)? Or what if he decided he didn’t want that future? Could he see different “paths” or outcomes based on which one he decided to follow? Hmmm interesting…

Mykaila Witt

1. You're only influenced by the past king's ideology if a person with royal blood has the founder, Eren doesn't have royal blood so he still has his ideology. If Zeke would've had the founding titan, he would've conformed to the King's ideology since he has royal blood. 2. The attack titan can't just see the future. they can see the memories of the past and future holders of the attack titan. So Grishna "saw the future" because he saw Eren's memories. Eren knew what was going to happen because he basically saw his own memories, through Grishna's memories (because he showed Grishna parts of what would happen). Remember when Eren Krueger was passing on the attack titan to grishna, he told him to save mikasa and armin. Then he said "who's memories are those?" He was seeing Eren's memories. It's like an endless time loop of seeing their past and future memories. 3. Also important to note that Grishna said out loud to Eren, why won't you show me everything? When you have the attack titan ability, you can control what memories to show to past holders of the attack titan. So Eren was allowing Grishna to see some of his future memories, but controlling which one's he sees so he can control the narrative. (ex: have grishna kill the royal family and steal the founder)

kenny mannino

Theres more to that scene. Go back and look at the necklace she gives eren.

SirLagginton

You should really check out the voice acting in Sub for Grisha's scenes. He is easily one of the best voice actor's i've ever heard in my life, his line delivery is almost terrifying

SirLagginton

In his scene in this episode where he's breaking done to Zeke and in Zeke's backstory episode, his voice acting is insane too

Justin

Crazy how eren manipulates grisha into killing the royals except rod reiss so that historia can kill him in s3 and become queen so that eren can kiss her hand and become aware of his own future and memory inheritance powers, meaning he basically orchestrated the whole thing lmao

Justin

Eren doesn't just see the future after kissing Historia's hand, he briefly accesses the paths dimension and realises that the past, present, and future exist simultaneously within the paths. Everything has already been determined. This is why we see such a dramatic shift from s3 to s4 Eren. Someone who was always "fighting for freedom" found out that freedom never existed and that fact is further verified when Eren sees the predetermined events roll out in real time e.g Sasha's death and her last words being meat. Season 4 Eren is basically a guy witnessing events he already knows the outcome to, trying to fight against it, and slowly accepting he can't change it. He makes all these rash decisions not because he wants to, but because he has seen he will. The irony is that the "Attack Titan" the one that always fights for freedom, is the very thing that showed Eren freedom isn't real. The character that would do anything to be free ends up being the most enslaved of them all, a slave to his own freedom.

Cole Romero

This honestly feels like a recap episode for those watching in real time. The cut to the first episode knowing what we know now feels almost other worldly cause at one time I just thought Titans were the byproduct of human experiments gone wrong who haunted humanity for hundreds of years, leaving only about a million left as Armin said. Now it feels like all the doors are open and no secret is left, yet I have a feeling something is coming up soon even if there’s only about 15 episodes left.

Cole Romero

23:57 is that the origin of that one meme image? I swear I’ve seen this frame before somewhere

Cole Romero

Ngl, that moment with Zeke and Grisha got me crying rn. There was a point I thought Grisha was just a horrible father like that one from Full Metal Alchemist (I’ve never seen it, I just know the dad is the worst in that) but now it just seems like he in a way was a victim. Eren, Zeke, and Grisha were all victims of future Eren’s decisions. And that last part? I’ve never seen a protagonist main character himself so much he made the secondary antagonist fearful of the plans he himself wanted to do. It’s like if Tarkin scared Papa Palpatine with the Death Star after wanting it to be built for so long because Tarkin just put a switch on it and started blasting random planets for fun

WEEZY

First off. Why not? Also the voice acting in sub is awesome. Might as well check it out. Especially since this episode is such a crazy one.

Philip

When Eren kissed Historia’s hand in season 3 he basically saw the whole future. You can, if you rewatch the last episode of season 3, feel how different Eren is when he is looking across the sea!

Caleb day

ON YOUR FEET DAD.

Cole Romero

The Attack Titan can’t be the only Titan able to see the future. Cause in the first episode of S4, Falco was talking about fighting Titans with ODM gear, even tho he’s never been to Paradis. So when he ate Galliard, he then gained the ability to send memories to himself. And he was the Jaw Titan, not the Attack

Yanco Schoenmakers

The ideologies of the king is only added when a Eldian of royal blood inherits the founding titan Alex ;)

Ilan Landreau

you have to watch this episode in sub bro plz

VII Cany

aka a paradox. a bunch of future and past stuff intertwining that make everything connect in a way that is impossible to explain. future eren wouldnt exist if it wasnt for future eren

Matthew Watkins

The Attack titan is the only one that has the crazy ability to see the memories of the future people who inherit it. So here's the mind fuck, essentially Eren has been manipulating Grisha and orchestrating this entire sequence of events from the future without even knowing it.

VividDisaster

It's so funny how Zeke inadvertently caused his own downfall by trying to help Eren see how bad Grisha was but instead gave him access to Grisha, talking to him and coercing him into doing his bidding

YannickWega

You're getting it wrong. The Attack Titan is the only one! What Falco saw was just the past of someone from Paradis, not the future. He could see it because all Eldians are connected through the paths. So for a moment he gained memories of a soldier or scout from Paradis. Eren on the other hand has Memories of his future and all previous holders of the Attack Titan could see the memories of the last holder of the Attack Titan , which is Eren, so they'll could see everything that Eren wanted to reveal to them. Because Future Eren could tell or withhold information, he manipulated all holders to make one specific future happen. All other Titan users and people of Eldia could only access old memories but never future ones. I hope I could explain it to you xD

Cole Romero

That actually makes sense. Didn’t know it was a thing ALL Eldians could do. I just thought only the holders of the Nine could use those powers, seeing as he would become the Jaw Titan
