Hey cutie,

I have a very early HypnoOverlay Linux test build ready 💗

This is an AppImage build, which means it should run as one file, similar to the Windows .exe. This is not a full stable Linux release yet. It has only been tested on an Ubuntu VM so far, so I need more Linux testers to see what works, what breaks, and which setups behave differently.

Important notes:

Wayland may not work properly because Linux blocks overlays much more strictly there.

Some fullscreen games may block or slow overlays.

Treat this as a test build, not a polished release.

How to run it:

Download:

HypnoOverlay-Linux-x86_64.AppImage

Open a terminal in the folder where you downloaded it.

Make it executable:

chmod +x HypnoOverlay-Linux-x86_64.AppImage

Run it:

./HypnoOverlay-Linux-x86_64.AppImage

If the overlay does not appear, please check that you are using X11:

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

If it says wayland, log out and choose an Xorg/X11 session from the login screen if your distro offers it.

If video does not play, please tell me:

your Linux distro

whether you are using X11 or Wayland

what video format you tried

whether the app opened at all

any terminal error messages

Again, this is just a Linux test build for now, so feedback is extremely helpful.

Double Grinch

First of all : thank you for making this! Sadly, I must report a bug Distro : Linux Mint 22.3 x86_64 I'm using X11 I tried it with a variety of mp4 files, most were H.264 I believe The app opens fine, but every time I try to play a file it only gives me "Playback error: internal data stream error". The terminal gives me this: (hypnooverlay:57301): GStreamer-WARNING **: 02:16:09.720: External plugin loader failed. This most likely means that the plugin loader helper binary was not found or could not be run. You might need to set the GST_PLUGIN_SCANNER environment variable if your setup is unusual. This should normally not be required though. I tried troubleshooting my Gstreamer install and that's when I ran out of steam. Any help is appreciated :)
